This was my favorite place in BBK.... I check inn looks like the same place.... At least the rooms are the same as the past. I have not been mongering in Bangkok for years. I liked the fact that they had a separate entrance with your own key card. No ID checks. I seem to be one of the few guys that hate ID checks.

Where Can I Find Licorice?
JohnIrish replied to rmicheald's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Interesting question...I like red licorice but have never seen it in a 7-11.... I thought that was weird. -
I use a Schwab ATM card... They pay all the ATM fees and do not charge any fee for international use...pretty simple.

Noise level on LK Metro
JohnIrish replied to midlifecrisis's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
I stayed at the Metro A parts about 2 years ago. I had a street facing room...only 1 night was bad when there was a band in the street...but it sounds like many more gogo's opened up. I really like the Metro but decided to stay at China Gardens on my next trip. -
I am interested in the Captains for a place to stay as well.

I stayed there once but it was a few years ago. I liked the place and would probably want to stay there again........ But not if they had a joiner fee.

I used to stay there many years ago... I like the location but the rooms were always musty...damp! At that time the price was 400 THB. Towels would never dry if wet. I wonder how a new bed or shower would change that? I am glad they upgraded but I still wonder about the rooms.

Has anyone actually used any of the insurance policies for a major operation or illness? Experience the treatment of the doctors and hospitals? I am married to a Thai and I may end up living in Thailand so I am also interested in Insurance costs. I live in the US now and I do have medical through my company if I retire but it would be equal to 250,000 THB a year! Also, this is the minimum since any cost increases will cause this number to go up. I would like to live in Thailand for 6 months a year and then the US for 6 months. It looks like I could get great insurance for significa

Hi I will be traveling to BBK with some friends... not doing any mongering on this trip.. so all my usual hotels are not what we are looking for. Around 1500-2500 thb ... we are doing the tourist things so perhaps close to the skytrain or subway would be nice. It does not have to be on Suk. A pool would be optional but not required. any recommendations for a nice place... ?

Going to Khon Kean and Chiang Mia in June
JohnIrish replied to Dr Mick's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
I was with my Tilac in Chiang Mai recently... We stayed at the Baan Orapin... a very nice place. They have a small pool that is very nice. It is not close to beer bars but I was not concerned about that. The staff is great and I would recommend it. Rates are probably on the top end of your budget. Do a search on the internet. I like the place but I think the rooms are dark.... lots of wood. They dont even check IDs when you bring a girl back.

I fly EVA from Seattle all the time... and like the Evergreen Deluxe. The seats are wider with more leg room. However, they are hard and I still get a sore butt after sitting for 14 hours! I think the downside is that I usually get on the older plan with only a few in flight movie channels. I think the entertainment is not so good. The movies come on a fixed times, so if you are sleeping you would miss part of a movie. I did fly China Air once in economy class... and I actually enjoyed the experience. The entertainment was fine and the seats pretty good. The entertainment is "on d

Not on your list but Ma Maison has a decent pool. It is on the ground level just behind the bar/Eating area. Just pop in there when you are walking down Soi 13 to check it out. I have only stayed in the regular rooms.. they are OK but I think the Whitehouse rooms are a better value. I am told the deluxe rooms are much better.

My Advice... Just find the best looking hotel (read the reviews) for what you are looking for. Location is not too important... there are fun places everywhere in town and the Baht Bus is so cheap it really wont matter. I usually like to explore so end up all over the place anyway. So .. basicly anywhere from soi 2 to Walking Street and between Beach Road and 2nd Road is a good place. Soi 13 is usually considered in the middle and a good central location. The Soi Buckaow area is fun but I dont think it is quite as easy to get around.

Hey... Thanks for all the replies... I will check them out and pick one. I am used to mongering so this will be a change. thanks again!

I will be staying in Bangkok for a few days with the GF before going down to Krabi. I know the mongering hotels on Suk ... but since I have a GF with this time I would rather stay in a different location away for the P4P areas. This gives me a chance to check out some other areas especially since she is a non bar girl. The place needs to be near the skytrain or subway for easy access. We will probably do the tourist thing for a few days. Something nice in the 2000 or 2500 baht range would be good. Just looking for a nice room... a pool or other amenities does not matter. Any

budget hotel in pattaya
JohnIrish replied to salsa4ever's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
For that price range with an excellent location.... One Idea would be Honey Lodge ... South Pattaya Road It even has a pool! They have a safe in the lobby. Rooms are smaller so it may not work out. http://www.pattayapages.com/reviewpost/sho...t=338&cat=4 Location... just across from the entrance to Walking Street.... where the road turns sharply left.... stay on the left hand side just past the two restaurants there is an alley.... take a left at the alley and you are there. It is a 500 thb a night place. Usually you dont need a reservation. You could jus -
Suggestions, other than Sandy Springs for Soi 13
JohnIrish replied to Alfred's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
I have never stayed at the Sandy Springs... but I have stayed at the Ma Maison a couple of times. I thought the standard rooms were just OK... kinda small and dark for me. Even a little musty. There is a small in room safe. On my last visit there.. I was in a standard room and checked out to a different hotel after one night. I believe the Superior rooms may be better. Nice people there and a nice pool. It is worth checking out. -
Hotels in the heart of the action
JohnIrish replied to twomp's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
Hi Twomp From your post I was not sure if you had been to Pattaya before... but assuming you have not.... Where to stay REALLY DOES NOT MATTER! (As long as you are between Soi 2 and Walking Street) Baht buses run up and down the streets constantly. You will probably be going to the different spots anyway. Some people like to stay near Soi 13 since that is a central location. Read the reviews and find a place in your price range. You will have a great time! I hope that helps. -
When I first started traveling to LOS.. I stayed in 400 baht a night places and always took the bus to Pattaya from BBK. Now I like to stay in 1000-1500 a night places and get a private cab ride. Much nicer! I have moved up to nicer places but I still dont rent a penthouse. I have stayed at the Lord Nelson... it was a 700 baht room ..... nothing more..... nothing less. I dont think it was an exceptional value but just OK for the price. I have stayed at the Pig & Whistle for 700 baht. Gee... the rooms for BOTH hotels (in my opinion) rate the same! The location on Soi 6 was not mu

Thanks for the nice list... I almost stayed at the Town Lodge... I did a drive by with my Taxi. I can not understand why the Town Lodge is always recommended. It is so far down the soi... way way too long a walk just to get to Suk for me. This is from someone who walks all over the place. I am sure the hotel is very nice but I thought I would mention the location issue just so everyone understands this before they book.

I stayed at the P&G on my last trip... It was just OK... nothing special for the price. Everything worked fine. Rooms were cleaned very well and about the same time every day. There is no ID check if that is a concern for anyone. I think the ID check procedure is over-rated by most board members anyway. The room was just OK... you get exactly what you pay for.

Hi I am in the pIG AND whistle now.... Actually... I like the room with the following comments Bed is too hard....difficult to lay on side for a long time Loud at night ..I think this depends on the room but very noisy last night until about 4 am You guys party too much! A/C OK.. takes a while to cool down the room I woudl not want to stay here on a very hot day. But once cool.. it stays pretty good. Bathoorm ... Shower is OK.... drain in floor. Water seems pretty warm. There is a sliding door for the bathoom with some "slats"... so not too much privacy when using the toilet!

Hi.. I will be staying there in two weeks... this will be my first time there so I am curious if anyone else has actually stayed there and liked the rooms. I tried to email a request to them... no response. So.. I phoned them up directly to get a reservation. I have an internet phone so it was only about a 2 or 3 cents a minute call (www.voicestick.com) . My advice would be to phone them up. Any reviews?

Maybe we need to add a column on the hotel review section.. Not guest friendly One Guest friendly 2 or more guest friendly. I usually only want one lady.. but things do happen in Pattaya. It is a real pain to dish out another 500 thb.... Especially since this policy is not posted. They accept your guest but are not really guest friendly in my opinion. I also never did understand the idea of checking in as a double for when you bring someone back.
