Two weeks ago the signboard said 590 baht with wi-fi.

Try the overnight train to Penang then train back to Surat Thani and boat across to Samui. Usually best to go first to your farthest point.

Good job. Nice to read an honest review that reports observations and facts without either syrup or vinegar. Reviews like this actually help people make a choice.

guest house rates now 1000 and more
JohnnyK replied to pauly77's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
IMO, 1000 baht is hotel territory. Fancy lobby drives up the price. GHs should be priced well under 1K. -
I mentioned my room simply to compare 500 baht rooms. I did say it wasn't big enough to play soccer in or go bowling, but I'm not there for the acreage and my exercise tends to be horizontal. While I can't run laps around the room, I CAN sit on my balcony and have my morning coffee au naturel. I can also stay home on a warm afternoon and read a book without feeling depressed after 8 minutes. I do like natural light. I'm 1/2 way between 2nd road and buakhow which gives me great access anywhere I want to go. Bottom line for me? I'm very happy at 500 baht for this room and the convivial, non-pushy bar with good food is a plus. Perfect location for a morning jog to the Belgian Embassy and a pre-brekkie eye-opener.

If you follow your nose very good value can be found here in Pattaya. Here are some pics of my 500 baht room in The Captain's Bar & guesthouse on soi 11 (Honey Inn). Its not big enough to play soccer or go bowling. It is big enough to shit, shower, shave and shag. Features include: Bolted-down in-room safe Excellent inside-outside bar playing oldies (no techno shite) Very good English brekkie 90 baht and good pub grub (chili, shepherd's pie, pork chops, sandwiches, 24/hrs) Beer 50-55 baht: Chang, Tiger, Heinie, Sing, San Mig. First-rate Brit-Thai ownership (Gerry & Lek) on the premises 24/7, and a selection of nice, un-pushy TGs. It does lack one thing: NO phony "legl" contract to hose down tired, jet-lagged punters at 2 a.m

Mucked it up, I did. Re-sized now.

Guys doing a 10-20 stretch for armed robbery might think Skytop has a familiar look to it!

You've been waiting for them with baited breath, so without further ado, here are the 2008 Darwin awards. 8th Place In Detroit , a 41-year-old man got stuck and drowned in two feet of water after squeezing head first through an 18-inch-wide sewer grate to retrieve his car keys. 7th Place A 49-year-old San Francisco stockbroker, who 'totally zoned when he ran,' accidentally, jogged off a 100-foot high cliff on his daily run. 6th Place While at the beach, Daniel Jones, 21, dug an 8 foot hole for protection from the wind and had been sitting in a beach chair at the bottom, when it collapsed, burying him beneath 5 feet of sand. People on the beach used their hands and shovels trying to get him out but could not reach him. It took rescue workers using heavy equipment almost an hour to free him. Jones was pronounced dead at a hospital. 5th Place Santiago Alvarado, 24, was killed as he fell through the ceiling of a bicycle shop he was burglarizing. Death was caused when the long flashlight he had placed in his mouth to keep his hands free rammed into the base of his skull as he hit the floor. 4th Place Sylvester Briddell, Jr., 26, was killed as he won a bet with friends who said he would not put a revolver loaded with four bullets into his mouth and pull the trigger. 3rd Place After stepping around a marked police patrol car parked at the front door, a man walked into H&J Leather & Firearms intent on robbing the store. The shop was full of customers and a uniformed officer was standing at the counter. Upon seeing the officer, the would-be robber announced a hold-up and fired a few wild shots from a target pistol. The officer and a clerk promptly returned fire, and several customers also drew their guns and fired. The robber was pronounced dead at the scene by Paramedics. Crime scene investigators located 47 expended cartridge cases in the shop. The subsequent autopsy revealed 23 gunshot wounds. Ballistics identified rounds from 7 different weapons. No one else was hurt. Honorable Mention Paul Stiller, 47, and his wife Bonnie were bored just driving around at 2:00 A.M. so they lit a quarter stick of dynamite to toss out the window to see what would happen. Apparently they failed to notice the window was closed. Runner-Up Kerry Bingham had been drinking with several friends when one of them said they knew a person who had bungee-jumped from a local bridge in the middle of traffic. The conversation grew more heated and at least 10 men trooped along the walkway of the bridge at 4:30 AM. Upon arrival at the midpoint of the bridge they discovered that no one had brought a bungee rope's; Bingham, who had continued drinking, volunteered and pointed out that a coil of lineman's cable, lay near by. They secured one end around Bingham's leg and then tied the other to the bridge. His fall lasted 40 feet before the cable tightened and tore his foot off at the ankle. He miraculously survived his fall into the icy water and was rescued by two nearby fishermen. Bingham's foot was never located. AND THE WINNER IS.... Zookeeper Friedrich Riesfeldt fed his constipated elephant 22 doses of animal laxative and more than a bushel of berries, figs and prunes before the plugged-up pachyderm finally got relief. Investigators say ill-fated Friedrich, 46, was attempting to give the ailing elephant an olive oil enema when the relieved beast unloaded. The sheer force of the elephant's unexpected defecation knocked Mr Riesfeldt to the ground where he struck his head on a rock as the elephant continued to evacuate 200 pounds of dung on top of him. It seems to be just one of those freak accidents that proves... 'Shit happens'. THE LEAST WE CAN DO IS TO COMMEMORATE THESE PEOPLE FOR REMOVING THEMSELVES FROM THE HUMAN GENE POOL...

Safe to eat from the street carts

28 contact hours?! Fuck, you must be exhausted. I won't do more than 20 absolute max.

Schools promise work permits but somehow there are always "delays". When they do produce one they keep it, its not transferable. Beware. 40K in BKK is nothing. Schools will try to screw all sorts of unpaid hours out of starry-eyed falangs. Assemblies, weekend events, overtime, conferences etc etc. Late pay is another dodge. Huge classes (40+) of screaming little Somchais who can do no wrong will exhaust people by noon. Lack of materials is another and if you don't have materials its a bitch doing lesson plans. Trust me, I've been doing ESL for 12 years in Canada, France and Taiwan. In the ESL world Thailand sucks, its a racket except for those in the true international schools and they do not hire newbies.

Do you support capital punishment?
JohnnyK replied to azharleyboy's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Statistics from around the world confirm that capital punishment does not lower crime rates. -

IMO Intown is better value. Rooms are now 800... but there is an elevator! And a rooftop pool to get out of the afternoon noise and pollution. Rooms on the backside are perfectly quiet.

!!!!! Is this a real question? Why would they do this? They don't know you. Your bank is thousands of miles away. In a foreign country. WTF can be easier than using an ATM?

Best and Most Authentic Thai Restaurants
JohnnyK replied to player_cam53's topic in Restaurants and food
most authentic? food carts best? everyone has different tastes/standards go away from falang areas would be my advice. -
I went to KK hospital 5 years ago with an eye infection. They quickly found someone who could speak English, hustled me through registration, opened a file on me and got me a bar code number. Then upstairs to the eye/ear/nose/throat dept where I waited about half an hour before seeing a young doctor who spoke excellent English (I think he had an American MD). He examined me, wrote out some scrips, told me what the problem was and sent me to the dispensary on the other side of the floor. I was given eye drops and two kinds of pills with instructions in English. I paid the bill there for his services plus the prescriptions - about 800 baht in all. I was treated kindly and efficiently at every step and it seemed other people were treated well, too. I was very impressed.

They can't really be compared. Pattaya caters mainly to foreigners and sex is its main business. HH caters mainly to middle class Thais who come from BKK on weekends (main road is clogged with Mercs and Bimmers on Friday night) though there are about 3000 falang residents. HH has been a resort for 80 years or so while Pattaya was a fishing village until the VN war got the sanuk industry under way. There are bars and girls in HH, to be sure (it is a Thai town, after all) but nowhere near the scale of Pattaya (100 bars or so v. 2000 or so). HM The King lives pretty well year-round in HH, its very quick to fly to BKK for gov't business and you may recall that Samak came to see HM in HH about 10 days ago. The people of HH are quite proud of HM being in residence and the town has a quiet pride, is clean and a real Thai town with amenities for falangs. You will not find the excesses of Pattaya in HH. All that said, you can get your ass licked, your cock sucked and fucked as easily as in Pattaya though IMO the girls are not quite as professional and par value may be a bit more effort to find in HH. You can still have fun though and the beaches are much better. Try it you might like it, just don't expect samesame Pattaya.

Kitchen is ok for all the cooking you are likely to do when food is good and cheap everywhere outside. Install decent window treatments - shutters or drapes/blinds. Get some fabric into the place so it stops looking like a clinic. Put stuff on the walls!!!!! And paint some colour, warm it up. White is for colour-blind people. All the above is pennies.

The guys who did this weren't morons. They were pretty smart, IMO.

chaplins bar & guest house.....

Rooms seemed overpriced to me. On the bright side, its just a few yards from the Welkom Inn. -
Exactly, Gary. hybrid, tell her the job is take care house, baby and your cock, not necessarily in that order. Pay her a salary to do it. She can be paid on the 15th and 30th, up to her. Yr welcome.
