  1. He specifically stated "A large coffee cost 100 Baht".
  2. Plenty of coffee shops around.
  3. It's called Thasiam (Tah-see-ahm). It's a chain of noodle restaurants. Loads of them in BKK and normally full of uni students trying to stretch out their Baht. and it sounds like you had pad thai (gung). Best eaten alongside a large Leo on ice. 200 Baht for everything? For the three of you, or just you?
  4. It was 200 Baht in the mid-90s.
  5. The value comes if you don't need internet, TV or towels in your room. Internet in the lobby is free if you just need to check your e-mail. If your priorities are for the basics (a really decent bed and shower in a clean room), it's good value. No different to Air Asia really - if you're travelling light, don't care where you sit, and can survive a 90 minute flight without food, it's great value. I wouldn't use it if I was in "holiday mode", but for an overnight to visit the embassy or take in a show or concert, it's ideal.
  6. Yes. It's on the global partners list.
  7. If you're after a decent room near Asoke for a couple of nights, Tune Hotel has just opened on Soi 14 - easy access to both BTS and MRT. Under a grand per night gets you a decent room (great bed and shower) with aircon included. Photo by hotelphoto.com
  8. As I said, the meter is only valid for journeys that Start and Finish within the BMA. You can do a return trip from BKK to Pattaya on the meter (start and finish in BKK) - examples of one-way prices to selected provinces outside of the BMA are shown on the reverse of the card. What happens is you flip the rate card over and it gives you fixed one-way prices to other provinces. The driver will have a full list or agree a price with you. The rates below are from 2006.
  9. That's exactly what I do - speak directly to the drivers who are waiting at the booths for their fares. The people manning the booths couldn't care less as long as you keep smiling and they get their 50 Baht.
  10. You don't have any choice at all getting a taxi from the third floor - there's no road outside, only a couple of footbridges to the car parks. As for the meter, it's only applicable for journeys that start and finish within the Bangkok Metropolitan Area.
  11. Compulsory viewing this coming weekend as the US hosts the battle of the big guns and the Brits wrap themselves in blue and gold to cheer on various Belgians, Germans, Italians and Swedes. Bad news for the Euros 'cos I'm predicting a 1-2 point win in their favour. Any other comments/predictions?
  12. You mean you don't like guys posting pics that look like you without your permission. Best not to threadfuck your own thread though - it may have some good info for some other BMs who find themselves in a similar situation to yourself.
  13. I'm intrigued that, given his mobility issues, he chooses to stay in a guesthouse which is on the 'wrong side' of 2nd Rd to catch a baht bus, and has the typical narrow steep stairwells found in typical townhouse-style properties. I would have thought that somewhere like the Sabai Inn (or at least somewhere on the 'inside' of the bahtbus loop) would better serve the needs of someone with mobility issues.
  14. Maybe a silly question, but how do you and the TG get back to your hotel from places such as the Beer Garden if you're using your scooter? Does it carry two, or what?
  15. That tells me they (may) fly to Edinburgh utilising a codeshare, nothing else - well, apart from they're not very good at geography
  16. Got a link?
  17. Maybe a silly question, but how do you and the TG get back to your hotel from places such as the Beer Garden if you're using your scooter? Does it carry two, or what?
  18. Unless things have changed recently, neither were sandals without a heel/ankle strap. However, you needed to buy a pair of cute little socks for 15/20 Baht to wear with them. Not a problem for the Brits, but other nationalities may feel uncomfortable with the sandals and socks look.
  19. Setting up an account with Kasikorn is about as easy as it gets. Takes around 20 minutes and you leave with your atm card in your hand.
  20. Thanks for the pics. I must remember the next time I visit Wat Phra Kaew, to go on a Wednesday - it doesn't look so busy!
  21. They have a current promotion for the same order .... 399 Baht.
  22. Sam, Keep in mind a lot of flights arrive at Don Meuang late on, but very few depart - the taxi queue can be a bit slow and you don't really have the option of nipping upstairs to catch one at Departures.
  23. Beefeater. I tried Big Horn once, but no sooner had I sat down than I was surrounded by a load of Indians.
  24. It would be good to know, if you do drive the thing on the roads, whether you need a licence or are required to wear a crash helmet. I agree that Pattaya would present certain challenges for such a machine (particularly with the smaller wheels) - perfectly emphasised by the pic of the showroom ...
  25. The difference is the couple of billion potential customers within 2-6 hours flying time.
