  1. Strange - it was flowing as normal mid-afternoon when I walked along it. I believe it is closed tomorrow from 8am to (?) 6pm.
  2. I see your point! ☺️ I guess I was reading the announcement as meaning Beach Road, rather than just the beach. That's probably because, somewhere, I read that Beach Road will be closed.
  3. https://www.pattayamail.com/news/pattaya-to-celebrate-coronation-may-6-on-beach-253940 "Pattaya invites residents who can’t make it to Bangkok to celebrate the coronation of HM the King on the beach. Banglamung District Chief Amnart Charoensri and Pattaya officials met with police and cultural leaders May 2 to plan the May 6 gathering on Pattaya Beach at Central Road. The rally is a chance for Thais to bless the new king and demonstrate loyalty, plus learn about the ancient coronation traditions. Beach Road will be closed during the proceedings. The ceremony will begin at 3
  4. No. Don't eat much meat, and it didn't look very appetising - lot of fat on it.
  5. Second Road, outside Central Festival Mall.
  6. I have been trying to find out if it will be life as normal in Thailand over the next couple of weeks, or if there will be closures because of Coronation celebrations etc. The high point of Coronation celebrations is from Saturday 4 May to Monday 6 May. The public holiday, known as Coronation Day, which has been held on 5 May (or thereabouts) for many decades, has been abolished*. However, 6 May 2019 has been declared as a special public holiday**. There are a couple of other public holidays around this time - Wednesday 1 May (Labour Day) and Thursday 9 May (Royal Ploughing Cer
  7. The Garmin has its own GPS (i.e. does not use your 'phone's). You can switch off Bluetooth on the Garmin. In fact, you never need use Bluetooth as you can hardwire to your computer.
  8. I had a Fitbit but got rid of it in favour of a Garmin Vivosport, which I much prefer.
  9. I believe @helloitsme was warned about this a few weeks ago, but I don't recall why - maybe it was drainage.
  10. Thanks, Butch. I listened to the whole video but can't really pretend to understand what they are saying. For instance, how can you upgrade your seat yet stay in the same cabin class? I await with interest what this all means as I have already booked 3 return journeys with them. I guess I'll be given the most basic of what they are offering. Edit: It's all explained here - https://www.evaair.com/en-us/booking-and-travel-planning/fare-family/introduction-of-fare-family/#empty Surprise, surprise - there's a good chance you'll be charged for seat selection!
  11. Thanks, FBWY. Can you tell me what they are trying to achieve there, please.
  12. Thanks, FBWY. Very predictable, but also very sad.
  13. I suspect not flying over Kashmir is the problem. My flight to LHR was an hour and a quarter late a couple of weeks ago because we flew over central India rather than the Himalayas.
  14. I always use EVA, and have yet to have anything happen which would warrant serious criticism of them. I'm a Gold Card holder, and I think I get excellent service from them. I just know that in 3 weeks' time I'm going to regret writing that!
  15. A few minutes ago at TT on Second Road: Sorry about the sideways shot. Some pesky people prevented a full frontal.
  16. I took a look at the situation at the north end of the beach on Friday (1 March). Once upon a time there was a footpath that went around the Dusit headland, enabling you to walk to the bay beyond. Inevitably, it wasn't maintained and rotted away. I have been wondering if they would establish a beach around the headland, and thus give access to the bay again. The answer looks as though it is not in the plans. There was an intrepid guy seeing if he could walk around all the same, but was scuppered by the rocks. And this is how it's looking outside the Tha
  17. Many Brits complain that they can't get a good British-style Indian curry in Pattaya, so I would like to make mention of Beer Hubb. I've just come from there. It is on Soi Buakhao (on the edge of Treetown, opposite Chunk Monkey), a newly opened place, and looks very upmarket from the outside. It is Indian-owned so, as I fancied an Indian curry, I thought I'd try it out. The decor is very smart, with tables inside in air-conditioning, or outside for people watching. Most of the outside tables were taken, but probably only a quarter of the inside ones. There is TV sport, and background
  18. The Imperial (previously Montien) Hotel was a hotel set in grounds occupying an extensive plot of land bordered on the west side by Beach Road, on the north by the Hard Rock Hotel, on the east by Second Road, and on the south by Sea Terrace restaurant, and several other businesses. View from the south It is now boarded up on the Beach Road and Second Road sides, and its sign on Beach Road covered over. The website for the hotel says: Here is a review on Trip Adviser from March 2018: The comments there seem to be confirmed by a recent item in Pat
  19. That's The Base - an enormous condo development. They've recently started building more towers there, having demolished the buildings opposite Kiss on the corner of Second Road and Soi Diana.
  20. Butch Do you happen to know when this pic was taken? I think it was a fair while ago as Kaos is now Dolls, and the realtors next door is now Jibby's - , I think Jibby's opened in September 2017.
