No the existing cars will be grandfathered in. They won't suddenly declare them unusable. Even the crazies that run California won't go that far. But yes Newsom the governor of California made an executive mandate for that. Hmmm no democratic process or vote? 😜 BTW you raise an interesting issue with agriculture and long haul trucking. Maybe technology will improve to the point that they can replace diesel fuel for those applications by 2035. And maybe it will be as efficient and cost effective. But if not once again government will have caused economic damage forcing a change for what we don't know. IMO all of this electric craze needs to have a dose of reality. Some do it to make the air cleaner in big cities. OK fair enough in concentrated areas I buy that the air will be cleaner. But the global warming crowd needs to understand ALL energy comes at a climate cost and electricity has to be generated. And the renewables really aren't cutting it now. Personally I believe nukes are the answer. But I'm just a guy with an opinion and a keyboard. -

it is being forced in some states. Well at least in California. By 2035 ALL cars and light trucks must be electric or other emission-free design. Of course they aren't forcing people to junk their 3 year old ICE cars but mandates aren't organic regardless of how long or grandfathered base. The actual result of mandates like this and others (can't recall where but they exist in the USA) is to actually turn some people away from electric cars that might otherwise have migrated to one for economy and better tech. The American psyche doesn't like being told what to do even if "it is good for ya". Would be better to allow electric charging networks to mature and the cars improve to the point where it is cool to own one. We will get there but the mandate is a set back IMO. -

I have no issues with the migration to electric replacing ICE. I never go anywhere farther than 200 miles driving in a day and I am home every night with an enclosed garage I could install a charger unit in. So I am a perfect candidate for electric and my next vehicle stands a good chance of being electric. What I take issue with is the mandates forcing the issue on people. The charging network in the USA is still in it's infancy and some people tow heavy items and/or don't have access to an enclosed garage where they can charge their own vehicle at night. For them having an electric car would be a problem right now. In short, let this change happen organically and because it is a better idea. Not because of some doom and gloom that the world is ending due to ICE pollution. -

I remember standing at Soi Diana and 2nd Road at 7 PM waiting for a gap in traffic to cross 2nd. Of course there IS a pedestrian crosswalk there but..... Some tourist from some nation where crosswalks are strictly adhered to is trying to get his wife to walk across with him as if traffic will stop magically when he strides out. She is terrified and looks at me and I just shake my head and say "wait". She would not go and he was very angry but they lived. 😇 -

That one way stuff sounds like a good idea. Of course it doesn't apply to motorbikes or Thais in a hurry right? 🤣 -
Definate downturn in prices out of London to Bangkok return
Shooter replied to Rawhide2's topic in Airline Discussion
On the original topic I noticed business class flights from LAX to BKK have dropped a bit. Mind you I'm looking at late January with March return no idea if any other dates are good. Assuming one doesn't choose Air Turkey or Phillipines real airlines on lie flat all aisle access like japan Air or American are about $4500 RT. -

As a yank growing up with nice wide roads I'd say that about all the roads in Thailand. 😅 -
Yet if you happen to be walking past a bar following a young fit good looking guy they seem to still take notice and get all wet and eager. When I walk by alone it's disinterest or hello papa. 🙁

Look we all know if you are on a mobility scooter in Pattaya you are already fucked. 😅 I am just recovering from a new hip and have gone through 2 new knees over the years. I'm not even close to needing a mobility scooter but Pattaya can be daunting getting around even for me. -

Curious why it is called Soi Casino. I've been visiting since 1999 and first I heard this. I always hated that soi. Seemed like every time I walked it at least one dog got territorial. Never attacked but had to keep my eyes open and had to reach down as if picking up a rock a few times. -

You ASSUME someone is planning. 😅 -
Thanks for the pictures. I confess that is as close as I will get. I visited the Cambodian killing fields and I had some bad dreams from it. And I think the Nazis might have been worse in just how calculating and organized they were. It's a good thing we remember and try to avoid repeating such atrocities but I like sleeping at night.

I'll be there. Errr as a member of audience.

Don't know if they need razing as they are mostly brick. But they are in sorry state no doubt. My real bitch is most of these places have traditional "stairs" which I would happily traipse up and down in my youth. Now with 2 fake knees and a fake hip on order I do not like those steep stairs. -

I also stayed at Classroom Jan-March. And the dogs out front of Classroom (like them but dayum shut the fuck up at night) would kill rats and leave them around on the road. I would hate to work in Penthouse. Betting there are vagrants sleeping there and wildlife galore. -

I heard the same thing. Boy does he have a lot of work to do. That place has stood empty for a long time and I suspect there are a lot of critters living in there and they will need to rip out anything made of cloth and repaint. Probably need lot of plu, bing work too. -

I am currently back in the USA. I spent Jan-March in Pattaya and at that time buying weed was the same as buying a bottle of beer in the stores. No issues. BUT in theory and it seems practice it isn't legal to smoke it in a bar or public. I never saw people smoking it in public. -
I'm confused. isn't it illegal to allow smoking in public places there? I mean I know it isn't enforced but realistically it shouldn't be hard to find non-smoking venues. For myself been so long since I went out at night other than dining and meeting the lads at some open air bar I forget what it is like in crowded gogos and the like. For myself I gave up cigarettes about 28 years ago. I am pretty sure my lings are pink and free of gunk. I noticed when I tried marijuana here (legal in my state) I coughed like a MFer. Betting back in my ciggy days I wouldn't have. I find gummies are better anyway. 😄

I know tourists think the flooding is clean water since it came from rain. Au contraire. The water that floods Pattaya is not clean at all. it mixes with the shit in the sewers. I remember one time I had to walk/wade home from LK Metro to Soi 13 and Second road. And OK I'd had a few. I walked to the end of LK Metro and the water was rushing. And about knee high. Despite being inebriated I realized I could easily be knocked off my feet by that and get pinned under a car and die. OK, yes I am a pussy. So I waded around back up LK Metro to Buakhao and over to Soi 15 and down safely. But that isn't the worst of it. I had on new shoes that I really liked. Yeah yeah I know. Weird for a guy but I wasn't going to ruin them. So I was waking BAREFOOT. Yikes. All I could think was please God don't let me cut my feet. Long story short I made it home with only one incident where I stepped on something that felt furry (do not want to know). Instantly in the shower scrubbing my feet and legs. Woke up to a low grade fever just from walking in that shit water. Or a hangover but I don't normally have those so I'm assigning blame on the water. 🤮 -
