  1. One thing to note is that Areca is a fully non-smoking hotel. All rooms. Enforced by a 500b fine.
  2. I think the private car drivers cannot come outside the doors where the "legal" taxis are, so they have to stay inside the arrivals area. I've finally figured out that if I can meet the driver at the Information booth next to door 7 in the arrivals level, it works okay. I've never had to go to the parking garage. Incidentally, today I am going from Pattaya to Don Muang, and the rate is 1050b all inclusive for Mr. T.
  3. Sign out front said "British Bar". Am I allowed? I'll drop in and see you soon.

Shazam. You're now DUSTER. Welcome to the board.
  5. I use a pre-arranged taxi from Mr. T because I always know how much it's going to cost, don't have to haggle about tolls or the overall charge, and if I have a problem, a call to Mr. T will straighten it out. After a long trip, that is very important to me. Also, because I leave Pattaya at 3:30am, getting Mr. T's driver to come pick me up at the hotel in the morning beats wandering around the streets looking for a taxi at that hour. In addition, no taxi that I know of will take me to or from Suvarnabhumi in comfort for 950b including tolls. I've seen some of these 800b Bangkok taxis that are trying to get a return ride to Bangkok, and they are usually suitable for city driving, but not freeway driving.
  6. I've been using Mr. T exclusively for several years. I've never had a problem in at least 20 trips to and from Don Muang or Suvarnabhumi airports. I've had to meet up with the drivers after a phone call, however, so if you don't have a cell phone it might be dicey. You'll need to set up a meeting place because arrivals area is pretty confusing for them and us. Last trip I paid 1000b (950 + tip) to and from Suboom. I think Don Muang costs 1100b because it's farther from Pattaya.
  7. Paul, I just looked at your original post, and it appears the actual image attachments are gone. Can you upload/attach them again? Also remove all the [attachment id] lines and add the new ones.
  8. Raise one for me. Sorry I can't be there...well, not really. I'm cutting out alcohol for a week or so and you always try to get me drunk.
  9. Try this link referenced in the first post in this topic. http://www.lkpattayahotel.com/metropole/me...reservation.php
  10. If asked this (new) question to confirm your booking, use the name "Martin". That's probably what they are looking for.
  11. It appears Bob's Burgers is now closing at midnight.
  12. I've been getting frequent DNS and pageload timeouts, sporadic disconnects from Yahoo IM, emails from people asking why I haven't replied when I have. This appears to be a major mess. I just spoke to my hotel's internet tech and he said we are using CAT Telecom. Has anyone seen mention of this in the media?
  13. Indian restaurant on Walking St/Soi 16 (past Covent Garden) called Layla's was good the last time I ate there.
  14. Now you can.
  15. Good advice. Now you're a full member. Try updating your avatar now as on other boards. Welcome.
  16. I moved this from the open section where we don't discuss bars.
  17. I'm am very sad to have to report that cowboy died recently. His Thai wife was never able to get a visa to go visit him in the hospital in the USA, though she tried mightily. cowboy was a good friend and a hell of a nice guy...one of the really good ones. We'll miss him.

    Used book store

That shop was sold and is closed now. Canterbury Tales on Soi Chaiyapoon still has used books, though not as big a selection as the one on Soi Buakhao had.
  19. You're in now.
  20. I had a bacon cheeseburger at 2:50am last night and it was delicious. Bob, your buns are great!
  21. Sounds great, Bob. I'll check it out one night on the way home.
  22. As I understand it, there are 2 penthouses (way above my pay grade), and one of them is occupied by a long stay gay couple pair of BMs who are more likely to be found on other pattaya forums. The jacuzzi is outside on the terrace, and if it didn't have sunbeds, you could certainly request them and they would be provided. I don't know the difference between the two, aside from location at the top floor. I've only seen the one that is available for rent during a party held there a year or so ago.
  23. I think enough has been said on this topic. Topic closed.
