Unless there has been a very recent change, China Air (Taiwan) uses the A340 for the short leg of the journey, i.e., TPE to BKK. From LAX or SFO to TPE they use the Boeing 747-400. A couple of weeks ago I noticed the TPE - LAX route uses one of their brand new Boeing 747-400s while the SFO route was using an older variation of the same model. If you are flying Business Class (Dynasty Class) row 10 is, IMHO, the best row on their 747-400s and 10B the best seat in that row.

Wacky, WHERE do you get your mis-information? Simply not true. EVA has not ordered the A380. Did you fly on a test flight? The A380 has not entered commercial service and probably won't until this time next year.

Fonz, It is common in the airline industry to drop the last number and replace it with the first number of the series of that model. For example, the 747-400 becomes the 744, the 777-300 becomes the 773, and so on, and so on.

Still there, but they moved the dining room up to the 2nd floor (1st to you European types). Guess the diners got tired of looking at the katoey hookers hanging around outside. Heineken is brewed in Thailand (the only place I've seen it brewed outside of Holland) and the Miller had to be imported.

Cherry Restaurant, 3rd Road. The Sportsman, Soi 6. El Toro, 2nd Road. Ma Maison, Soi 13. Art Cafe, Soi 16, Pattaya Naklua Road. There has been a recent change of management, so caveat emptor. Vientiane, on Walking Street, is not bad. "Old Plantation setting" along the water. It won't win any medals, but if you have a group of people all with different taste, you should be able to find something to please everyone from their large menu. If you say so, John Holmes, but a couple of friends and myself (2 from California where we get more than our "share" of Mexican food) recently ate at The Tequila Reef and maybe they just had a "off night" but IMHO it was absolutely, without a doubt, the worst Mexican Food I've ever eaten....well, there is Taco Smell...er Bell.... It was almost tasteless, like eating air, if you could do so. The rice was in hard clumps. The beans were...like the rest of it...tasteless....

Not far away. It was many years ago. I doubt I would recognize the area today. Oh, I agree with you, Mr. Wilson. The Lord Nelson is not sort of place I normally stay, but thought I would give it a try. Guess I shouldn't have been so surprised it was even more "down market" than I expected. Care to reveal the name of this "upscale" service apartment you use?

The breakfast at The Sportsman on Soi 6 is very good.

I recently used the new airport and agree with the article. While it is of some architecture interest, functionally it is fundamentally flawed. Basically, it is a shopping mall that just happens to have an airport attached. Arriving isn't too bad, but when departing you really notice the problems. Bring back Don Muang!

I requested a "Deluxe Room" and was definitely told when I checked in I had been given a "Deluxe Room," but the rate on the receipt is 700 THB, which is, I believe, the superior room rate. I didn't expect much, but it was even lower in quality than I had been lead to believe.

It was NOT over two small incidental items and IT IS NOT RUBBISH. Had the items not disappeared my opinion would be the same. To propose I, someone you don't know the first thing about, would be so petty as to write a negative review based on the lost of two small incidental items, would suggest such a low class hotel just might be a perfect fit for Your personality type, "stevoman." Or, do you simply have a financial interest in that dump?

I guess you could say it was a case of, "you get what you pay for." I made the horrible mistake of booking a "Deluxe room" at The Lord Nelson. When I checked in I was shown to a small dark room. I said to the girl, "I booked a Deluxe room," the respond was, "Deluxe room. See, DVD player." If that was a "deluxe room" I would hate to one of their regular "superior rooms." They must have used a fish eye lens on their camera to make the rooms look as big as they do in the web site photos. The bathroom was so small the toilet was across from the shower and you could, if you so desired, take a shower while sitting on the porcelain throne. The room was on the 3rd floor, 2nd to you European types, and at 4AM when two people were talking at normal tones on Soi 6, it seemed like they were standing next to the bed. There might as well have not been any glass in the window frames. The next morning while I was sitting in the room the maid came in to change the sheets. I wouldn't have believe it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, but she removed the bedspread and the top sheet, hit the bed a couple of times as if she was brushing something off, pulled the bottom sheet tight, and put a clean sheet on top of the used bottom sheet and replaced the bedspread. Unbelievable!!!! I was out of there in 24 hours. Would have been less, but I had a appointment that afternoon. After I had checked out and moved to another hotel I noticed I was missing a couple of small items. A trouser hanger, the kind with the wood "clamps" that hold the trousers by the cuff and a can of air freshener. I went back to The Lord Nelson and the maid was sitting right next to me when I walked up to the bar and asked if I had left anything in the room. I was told I had not. Later when back at the new hotel I made a thorough search and the items were not in my luggage. The next morning I went back again and asked if they had found anything I might have left in the room and, again, I was told, "No." An out and out lie. Oh, btw, they asked for a 1,000 baht deposit for the key to the lock box downstairs and the girl refused, twice to give me a receipt, telling me they didn't have receipts. I asked a little more strongly the third time and she produced a receipt book and wrote the requested document. I don't mind walking and I don't mind stairs, but the stairs were some of the worst I've seen. Looked like something out of the Winchester Mystery House. The space that should have been used for the width of the steps was, apparently, put into the height of the risers. I had to go up and down the stairs sideways. The fire escape on the back of the building was easier to use. I canNot recommend this hotel to anyone and would suggest you only consider it if every other hotel in Pattaya is booked solid. The only positive thing I can say about it was the girls who work the bar during the day seemed very pleasant.

Everywhere I've stayed, so far, the outlets would accept both the French round pin style and the U.S. flat blade style plugs.

They must have changed their procedures as mine has always been directly related. The SIM will expired when the credit is used or on the current expiration date, whichever comes first. I have to add credit in order to extend the expiration date.

Suggestions, other than Sandy Springs for Soi 13

The place across and to the left of the Sandy Spring is The Golden Crab. The Sandy Spring, IMHO, has to be the most overrated hotel in Pattaya. -
You can top up a DTAC SIM card out to one year in advance. You can get a better deal by buying the credits/time in a company owned DTAC store vs buying a top up card at 7/11. Unfortunately, while DTAC insists they have a store in Big C, I've never been able to find it.

Booked solid until March.

Difference between Air China Limited and China Airlines?
Samsonite replied to love4fun's topic in Airline Discussion
Must have something to do with the Christmas Season. I just tried one month on the either side of 14 December and the fares run from $650 to $750.00. Mid December is over $1,200.00. The mysteries of airline pricing. -

Why so high? That is almost double their regular fare. -
Sorry, I have to disagree. Very little of anything mickeysoft has done was done well and while NTFS is better than then older FAT16 and FAT32 file systems, it still needs to be defraged on a regular basis.

Recommendations for hotel near Walking Street
Samsonite replied to midlifecrisis's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
IF you want to be close to the action that "new" place just off Walking Street on Soi 14 looks like it might be a good bang for the buck. -
Go to the new airport, but for your peace of mind first go to the web site for your airline, get their local number (probably a Bangkok number), and call them to confirm your return flight.
-
Here, just for example, is what one airline has done with the interiors of their Boeing 747-400s: http://www.navigon.net/ca747_tour/747VR4/index.html
