I did pay the higher fare yes. The main reason I paid the higher fare, was, by doing so, I would attain silver status. I booked on Thais web-site...Im pretty sure, Silver means you can book a seat upstairs.Perhaps worth looking on their web-site to book it upstairs?

When I fly with Thai next January. Im flying economy, but upstairs. Hopefully will be better/quieter?!
-
Nice to hear about the A350 I "prefer", using the night -time flights from LHR to BKK...but as they used to use the 777s............I used to use the mid-day flight from LHR..........As it uses the A380 I may well fly on the a350 in October next year.... Im already booked on the A380 for January. Silver FF means you have reached the "next tier!" of frequent flying...I "think" you get this if you fly 15,000 miles in a 2 year period..........or something like that!
-
Not been on the BKK-Pattaya train trip. Back in the 80s though, used to regularly use the train from BKK to Samui..................sleeper train...cheap as chips it was too! Also did a"sleeper" train BKK to Chiang Mai........many moons ago!

Just about on topic! Is it just me....but every time I fly from (crappy! I dont like it! Prefer T.3!) T.2...when walking to the plane, you always seem to be going up and down bleeding escalators?! Takes an age to get ther,e it seems....then when coming back into T.2 it also seems to take forever to get to the Heathrow Express train? Rant over!

Im one of the people that didnt know that! Thanks for posting...Useful tip.

Ive been flying with Thai and Eva for the last 15-20 years. Personally? I prefer Thai. I like the flight times ( I leave mid-day from Heathrow...and leave BKK. early morning). Thais I.F.E. used to be pathetic...thats when I started using Eva more...Now however, all seats have a screen....I find both Thai and Eva flights to be nearly always full! So little chance of "spare" seats............Though I have been lucky a few times (with spare seats I mean!) with Thai....but never with Eva! Eva are usually cheaper than Thai yes... but sometimes the difference isnt so great....As I say the Thai flight times work much better for me too.. Also....as has been mentioned...Eva are going to cram more people into their 777s soon. So of course will be busier etc.

Looking forward to hearing about the A350 Gus. I usually fly on the A380 Last month I had seat 59E........decent enough seat. For my January trip, Im sitting upstairs in economy.......hoping it will be maybe better/quieter?!

Honey Hotel Bangkok. Still Open?
marleyboy replied to Goldpanner's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
im pretty sure I stayed here a fair few times! Is it near (ish)! to Soi Cowboy? If so....I have many happy memories of the place! -
No! its in a row of 4...but this row is only 3 (obviously middle row!). So basically, there are 4 seats in front of you, and 4 behind.........but next to 59E is a "space" where the seat would have been!! It gives you a little more space, to sit? i had it for both legs in Jan and Feb his year...I found it a good "well "better"! than the "average"!) seat. I will be in the same seat (59E) tomorrow, and for my return in a fortnight. Then in Jan. Im sitting "upstairs". Hopefully it wont be as busy/noisy...........purely because not so many seats there! Plus as a bonus......"hopefully"! smaller queues to use the toilets!! i like the A380, it seems to be quieter, as well as a bigger cabin, which (even though the seats are the same size!) gives an impression of more space. Saying that? The upper deck will be smaller...!? Have a quick look on seat guru , as regards to seats. "Personally"? I prefer an aisle seat . (dont have to climb over people to get up for a walk/go to toilet etc!)....but of course...that means , the 2 sat next to you, will be climbing all over you! So I book an aisle seat, in the row of 4 (Or 59E! which has only 3 seats!) as in theory? Just the person sitting next to you, will need to climb all over you (well you know what I mean!) as they go for a walk/toilet etc etc!! The older Im getting? The more I like a "better" seat!! And no!! I cant or wont pay for Business class!!

I just today booked a flight with Thai for January 2018, (Im also going with Thai on friday!). For this weeks trip, I booked on Thais web-site..........cheapest ticket....and I managed to book 59E on both legs (nice seat..I had it in January this year too). For my trip next January, I paid a higher economy fare (basically to get me more miles). I was able to book the upper deck for that trip. I will be going twice a year for the next few years,,,then I will retire................yes!! I used to use Eva.....but the last few years Ive used Thai.....I prefer the daytime flight from Heathrow, and the early morning flight from Bkk... Ive flown Thai maybe 20 odd times over the years.........only ONCE! (well actually it was on both legs!) Have I managed 3!!! seats to myself!! Once or twice....Ive had a spare seat next to me......but the majority of times...the y are really fulll! I "normally" fly on a Friday come back Friday/Saturday/Sunday...so "maybe" these flights are busier than during the week? January, I will be flying over on a Thursday, and returning on a Tuesday...so "hopefullly"! the flights will be less busy? I do prefer Thai Airways to Eva though.........(saying that!? the "pot noodle" things! on Eva were nice!).

Im pretty sure it tells you on their web-site? I booked a few days there, a few years ago. I booked into zone 2...but they put me in a zone 1 room,. Nice enough room, new and clean...........overlooked the 18 coins if I recall!
-
I have just looked at my "voucher" for use on my return from Bkk in September..........according to the map on my voucher it is the "Sky" lounge on concourse F, opposite to the Eva Lounge. Pretty sure its the one I used in January this year...the Air France and K.L.M. lounge.
-
I always get a Boots "meal deal"! As you say, its cheap enough, nice big bottle of water to take on the plane too!
-
Or..! You can book a lounge in Suvarnbhum airport for the equivalent of 950 baht! www.bangkokflightservices.com/ I used them in February, Its the lounge which Air France and K.L.M use.....I found it to be good value..Booked it online, just took a print-out to the lounge

When I booked it with Groupon, Im sure they sent me a reference number or something? Then I had to forward the e-mail Groupon sent me, to the Plaza lounge people.....They sent me an e-mail back saying it was all booked for the time and date I requested.. At the time, I was a bit "dubious"! as I wasnt sent a "voucher", or anything,...But I got to the lounge, and it was all fine! the one time I used the "fast-track" from B.F.S. ....basically it was great and fast (in fact I had to wait for my suit-case!)...but , there was a very very small queue at immigration? (not the "fast-track lane, that is!).......That was most un-usual though. I wasnt sent a membership card or anything from Plaza though? Im pretty sure it was just an e-mail?. No limits on drinks either! I had a fair few drinks! Obviously, Id be very surprised if they still serve somebody when they are...pissed!!
-
I have been there twice. The first time, my daughter got me the lounge entrance for my Birthday. The second time, I got it on Groupon! I think it was circa £20-25 Well worth it in my opinion. Proper food, (curries, rice, chicken, salads, etc etc.) Proper bar , I indulged in Jack and cokes. Obviously free wi-fi newspapers etc etc. Showers too.......I did use the shower one time.....cos I drunk a fair few Jack and cokes!!! The shower freshened me up before going on the plane! ALSO!!!! Last time (Feb. this year..) I used the lounge in Suvarnbhum..........950baht! It was (I think!) the AIr France/K.L.M. lounge). I booked this through Bangkok Flight Services. Saying that, I think I read you are flying with Eva? If so , they leave around mid-day if I remember right? May not be s good then? (I dont drink in the day time or mornings!) Ive booked the lounge in BKK for September..............I didnt bother booking the lounge in Heathrow, as Im leaving mid-day.
-
Ive used it. In my opinion its worth the money. Decent food , lots of drinks (there is a bar). When Thai and Eva used to use T.3.............I used to use the "Servisair" lounge. Cost about £18......that was fine...but the premium plaza is way way better than that! I drink beer or wine or Jack and Coke etc.....As I say, in the Plaza lounge, they also have "proper food!" not only "snacks"....well worth the money in my opinion.. They also have showers to use (they provide you with towels ..obviously!)
-
Thats a decent price..If youre happ,y thats the main thing. Im going in February..I "usually" book around about September time..but like you...I will keep an eye on the fares....when it looks like a decent fare to me....then I will book it......... Saying that...I havent finallised my leave out yet for Feb..so will have to get a move on!
-
I "normally" book with West East, Im going in September........I am then going in late Jan/early Feb.....I "normally" will book my Jan/Feb. trip in September.ish time.... I usually go with Thai, as I prefer their flight times, and heathrow is relatively easy.......ish! for me to get to.. Do you reckon I may get a better price if I was to book later GP? I keep a bit of an eye on the prices, and Im always happy with the fares I get...........but of course ! if they can be had any cheaper....Im all ears!
-
I used to fly regularly with Eva. But have recently gone back to Thai airlines, as I prefer the flight times. I am still kicking myself, as a fair few years ago (I "think" it was when they "introduced") the 777. they were offering Royal Laurel ,Heathrow - Bangkok £777 return........ Didnt pay it, and ended up paying for economy!
-
i flew with Qatar last year in January. Nice enough airline....Had a 777 one leg and an A380 the other leg. I may well have a look at them in the future, as I will be going 3 times per year then.

Thai and Eva do.....they are both great!
