If you do go ahead and import your car, expect more checks than normal and make sure everything is well above board. All over the news on TV here about them confiscating imported cars, mostly luxury models without the proper paperwork. http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/local/287498/probe-intocar-import-scam-grows Regards

CnnGo article about Bangkok airport immigration lines
Fireman Sam replied to short's topic in Airline Discussion
Departed Swampy this afternoon at 13.00 hrs, I went and checked both immigration departure halls and although they are still undergoing some alterations the longest queue was about three or four persons. The airport was busy but they seem to have this sorted for sure, about 60-70% of the booths manned by immigration officers. Regards -

Up to you jimmac, your money, all the delays missed flights etc etc which were common a few weeks back are mostly gone now. No need to pay for fast track if it''s not included in your ticket pricing. Things are probably the best they have ever been regarding delays and getting through immigration etc etc When are you travelling ? I will b back through Swampy in another eight hours or so. Will update again then. -
CnnGo article about Bangkok airport immigration lines
Fireman Sam replied to short's topic in Airline Discussion
Arrived this evening 26th March from Doha with Qatar Airways at about 19.30 hrs, about 30 mins late. Although I had a Premium lane pass from travelling business class I used the normal halls as they were virtually empty, save my premium lane card for busier times in the future. Only one person in front of me when I reached the immigration counters, maybe took about five minutes maximum to get through. They have the female police at the start of the new all in one line queueing system to make sure your arrival/departure card are correctly filled in. Just travelling with hand luggage so was o -

Ye, know what you mean, I paid nearly £200. more than the sale price to fly with Qatar for a trip next month in March return April. I have next to no flexibility in choosing my dates, so it feels okay to me and the fares do seem to be creeping ever upwards. Never mind Jacko somebody has to pay for those metal gates between steerage and business al-ah the Titanic. 55555 Regards

Received an email from Qatar today detailing their latest sale. LHR - BKK - £565 Book by 21st February, travel between 10th April to 30th November, blackout dates of 10th July - 10th August. Just booked another trip from the above sale tonight ( out in June back in July ) good stopovers in Doha travelling Y for £562.00, which isn't too bad these days. . Regards

Copy a programme to disc?
Fireman Sam replied to teelack's topic in Technical problems or questions.
I have had different experiences to the above posters when copying programs. Recently our daughter wanted Photoshop 3 for some school work, I nipped round to a mates laptop went to program files right clicked the Photoshop 3 program, selected send to (this just copies the files), chose my pen drive, let it send, then came home explored the files that had been copied, found the .exe install file and bob's your uncle. Fully working copy of Photoshop 3 on our computer in no time at all. I presume I could just have easily selected the CD drive and made a copy for future use. Anyway, jus -

Stayed at the Holiday Inn at Silom Road in Bangkok and the one in Phuket both were definitely not girl friendly. I would presume it would be the same across all hotels in the group. Regards

I received an email from Thai today saying that from 16th January this year they have their A340-600 aircraft on the London route twice daily. Any members flown on the Thai version of this aircraft, if so how was the legroom and the inflight entertainment, was there seats back avod systems ? I checked seat guru and they say legroom is between 32-34 inch pitch which is reasonable for economy. Been quite a few years since I went on Thai, their 747's had good legroom but the let down was the lack of avod and generally expensive a few years back. Would maybe give them another look if this ai

I would go gatwick, trip seems to be shorter to me for some reason when I have a break midway. There are worst airports than DXB to spend a few hours in. Plus I hate Heathrow with a passion, although I have to transit the hole next weekend, not through choice though. Regards

Have you ever been stopped by Customs coming INTO Thailand ?
Fireman Sam replied to chatkeow's topic in Idle Chit Chat
Was told to put my suitcase on the xray machine once when I had a cylinder head for an Yamaha XJR 1300cc motorbike in the case, customs guy never batted an eyelid and I went on my merry way. The head didn't even belong to me, was transporting it for a mate cause the ebay seller won't post it. Had my bags x-rayed a few other times and seen plenty of people being told to do the same. I transit Swampy between 10 -12 times per annum. Some horror stories going around about fines when people are caught with extra ciggies. Regards
