  1. I rented a house from an old Thai widow for seven years in Nakhon Phanom. She wouldn’t report to immigration that a falang was renting her house as she was scared that she would be made to pay tax on the rental income. I also never reported where I was staying, never had a problem but realise that they are maybe a bit more on the ball these days. Regards.
  2. I renewed my yearly retirement extension to stay yesterday in Nakhon Phanom, there was a big new sign saying “no tips please”. I was in and out in less than 20 minutes, good service with a smile. Regards.
  3. I’m pretty sure that all UK based airlines managed to fly into and out of European countries before we were a member of the European union. As do the airlines of the other 163 countries of the world that are also not members of the European Union at present. Scaremongering by the press who have been so bias to the remain campaign that it is shocking, still vested interests I presume. Regards
  4. Not really relevant, was around 35/£ around 1983/84. Bottle of Klosters or Singha was around 30 baht in most beer bars, really only two beers available around that time. Everything goes in circles. Regards
  5. Really depends on which service the poster uses. My sister sent me my new Visa card from my UK bank last week, took around six days to Nakhon Phanom via Royal Mail international tracked and signed for. On the other hand I’ve had packages and cards take two weeks plus. Regards.
  6. Mekong river on the rise again for the next few days.

I did my one year extension the 22nd. The Mekhong is higher than I have ever seen it in the ten years I have been going to Chiang Khan.

  7. Ye, the UK has to be the only country that raises interest rates and their currency falls. I realise there is a lot more going on but bloody annoying. Regards.
  8. Apologies for the -1 red, fat finger syndrome on my iPad trying to give you a green. Regards
  9. Just finished watching this, thought it concentrated on the anti-war movement maybe a little too much though. Really enjoyed it though, thanks for the tip, appreciated. Regards.
  10. As you approach each immigration zone there are TV screens (are they still there?)on the post/pillars that show the level of activity in the other zone. You can then make the decision if it’s worth walking the other 150 meters or so. I’ve not had to exit/or arrive in the country in the last three years, so not sure if the screens are still there or not. I always had a premium lane pass so was never a problem for myself. Regards
  11. Getting back to Pattaya and Thailand, used to see quite a few Falangs begging in Bangkok around the Pratunam area. Not been down there for a few years so unsure if they’re still around or been shipped back to country of origin. Regards
  12. I know it’s been out for a couple of years now, but I just started watching ‘Narcos’ on Netflix really enjoying it. I just recently subscribed to Netflix, took up the free month offer thinking there won’t be too much on there that takes my fancy but I’ll give it a go, how wrong I was, my to watch list now is impressively long. I have the two screen option at 350 baht a month, so the daughter is enjoying it also in her student digs in Bangkok University. Regards
  13. Qatar’s 787 In economy has terrible legroom in my experience. I had always managed to avoid flying it, but got caught out with an aircraft swap on a Doha to Heathrow leg. Their 777’s were far better for legroom, but my flying on the 777 was on the old configuration of 333 across. Regards
  14. Terrible website IMHO, I manage to live here quite well without it. Regards
  15. Have a look at AIS also, they are advertising fibre optic broadband for the house up here in Nakhon Phanom, if they provide it up here I would presume it’s also available in an built up area like Pattaya. They have packages similar to True Visions i.e broadband,TV channels and a SIM card for a fixed price. I have the True Visions package which consists of internet at 100mb download, 95 TV channels and a SIM card that does 100 free minutes to any number, with 500mb internet. AIS packages have a lot of HBO stuff on them looking at their flyers. My True Vision channels are mainly Thai,
  16. Nothing in the article about the most important issue i.e. legroom/seat pitch, I would still would rather walk than fly with them. Regards
  17. Enjoying this cool spell, shortly will be complaining about the heat.

  18. 9 degrees forecast for Nakhon Phanom, strong NE wind feels cooler than that. Am I in Thailand ?

Late 1974, had my folks send me an electric blanket to deal with winter in Nakhon Phanom.

  19. I’m with Butch on this one. Surprised people still visit it, terrible website IMHO. Regards
  20. Could never understand boarding and getting off a plane. Most planes have 8-10 doors plus, yet we all shuffle in and out of one door at the front. Surely in this day and age some engineers can devise a system where we can accommodate more than one air bridge to facilitate boarding and de-planning when the plane is at the gate. Ye, I know about the A380 and the direct boarding from lounges into business class. If you’re stupid enough to fly with BA, then you deserve all they throw at you. Sure I read a headline not long ago “airline of choice” 5555. Regards
  21. I think Aberdeen upped the charge to £2.00 a while back. You are only allowed 10 minutes in the drop off zone. Regards
  22. This ruling came out about three years ago, the last time I applied for a non ‘o’ I sent my application direct to London had it back in 4 days to NE Scotland. Their website had all the details to follow. I can’t see the point in using Hull if you know they are re-directing it to London, more chance of it going tits up IMHO. Hope you get your visa soon. Enjoy your trip. Regards
  23. Even in business jacko I found the leg room down at your toes wasn’t the best. I preferred their 777 business offering over their 787 or A380, all down to seat design I suppose. Regards
  24. Good review Evil, looks decent value at the opening price. Regards
