  1. I have tickets already, too. I doubt a "refund' will be available. I don't think Thai does refunds.
  2. 1.00 USD = 34.3014 THB United States Dollars Thailand Baht 02/27/07
  3. I thought that the biggest use of fuel from an efficiency standpoing is used for take-offs and approaches (as they proxy around waiting for a strip). The non-stop from JFK to BKK seems to be always full, so I don't see how making a stop can be a money-making event if the plane is 100% full.
  4. And what of us who have confirmed tickets NS from JFK/BKK for this June? p.s. As of today, you can still book the NS on Thaiairways.com
  5. Will miracles never cease! I somehow managed to convince Sabaii Inn to take my baht. I'll be damned. Maybe they forgot? At any rate, I'll be there again in June/July. I wanted to stay at skytops but they would not have my kind.
  6. They are. 17.5 hours from JFK to BKK. Helluva flight
  7. Sorry, can't help with pics of the balconies. I assure you there are 2! Two large sliding glass doors in the living room each leading to it's own balcony. Not a big deal, really. Just a basic perch with 2-3 chairs on each. I was mostly sleeping during the day and out at night, so didn't sit out there too much. Do you plan to spend much time sitting on the balconies?
  8. Yeah, I got a response from the Nana for my 4 day stay there starting in June. The quoted me a single rate of 1695 baht! Sawasdee.com has them listed for a lot lower! I think 1695 is a bit high for June, even for BKK. I booked the Nana as they didn't want payment upfront and now I"m trying to go through one of the agencys. I did get an email back from Sabaii Inn. 2 people, standard room (no ABF) for 700 baht per night. I thought that was a good price, so I grabbed it. See some of you in July!
  9. Not quite fair from my perspective to ask this question, but I think it still applies to all travelers. What do you prefer? straight, non-stop direct flight from A to B (with no beverage service, drink or dinner service), where you arrive fresh and read to go. Or.... do you prefer a layover inbetween loooong flights so as to wash up, shave, exercise a bit, walk around, etc... I only ask this question because recently I had the opportunity to expereince both. To me, it depends on the length of the lay over. Give me 2-3 hours to walk arouind, buy shit, etcc.. After that, I spend to
  10. The Thai flight from JFK to BKK Non-stop is about 17 hours. That is hell, belive me. The only thing worse that that is the regular Delta (and affiliates) flight that lasts 33 hours with all layovers included! That really suck! What would you rather endure? 17.5 hours one-way (long ass flight), or 10 hours flight with 7 hours lay over then 5 hours layover before next flight)? this is good topic for poll.
  11. Went into Living Dolls 3 weeks ago and got the royal treatment. Boss bought the ladies I was with 3 or 4 drinks each to "get them started" !!!!! and came back and bought me a drink or 2 later. Awesome! I naturally reciprocated by exploding my baht gun and it was more than worth it. Very righteous dude! I recommend a visit and don't hesitate to introduce yourself - you might be pleasantly surprised!!!
  12. the less time you can spend in that tight econom seat the better. Take the shortest duration flight possible and justify it by remembering every minute saved is one minute "inside" the place you want to be.
  13. I agee. Mike is a walking definintion of pain and discomfort. He has been shot/stabbed/ruptured/etc.. It was amazing to see him go up 4 flights and crawl under tbe Jacuzzi to replace the shower head my bizarre dancers had decided to "misplace" and break This is the nicest place I've stayed at yet. If you've got a few extra bucks and want the very best, this is the place to pick.
  14. See so many advertisements for 800 baht all-in. Took this option last time and excpet for the fact the driver spoke no english whatsoever I had no problems. Sure, the car smelled like a flyling gas can and I had a hard time explaining I needed to stop for food (but I did manage to communicat this), but the trip was otherwise very successful. Had a printout in THAI language of exactlty where I needed to go at the airport and had no problem. Question? Why pay 1500B for the same service? Does anyone have BAD EXPERIENCES? If so, what are they? why not take the 800 vs 1500 ride?
  15. I have contacted at least 7 different hotels via their internet sites for reservations in June/July. I have not heard a damn response in over 5 days! What do you think? Are the purposely "holding out" for better offers or just plain inefficient? I know it's low season but I thought they would be happy to book guaranteed income. Thai Logic at work? Maybe they think I will "call back" later when I'm desparate and willing to pay more? lol. Anyone have better luck? I'm looking for Areca, Sabaii, Metro... 07/01 through 07/09. peace.... Patrick
  16. i have always prided myself on mastering local customs and transportion modes, both for the price and for the "earthy" feel of being in a foreing country and doing as the native do. However, the bus experience is overated for those on a time budget of less than a month. Pay the friggin 1000B and get to the hotel in style and comfor, or pay the 150B and suffer for a 3 hour odyssey? hmmm. I can be very frugal when necessary at home but when I travel 12000 miles to be with beautfil ladies and only have 30 days or less to ge to it, I could care less about saving 1000B.
  17. To me, the HIGHEST price is what you are willing to pay for it. The BEST price is lower than what most people pay.
  18. I have pondered the prospect of buying a bar on WS. I am very new to all this and wonder what is meant by "key money"? what other implications and ramifications come with buying a business in LOS? thanks. -Pat
  19. my 2 baht... Needed major pain killers before but pharmacy "doctor" would not give me shit. returned to another pharmacy with a GF who explained farang was in pain and received much better medicine this time. Went to hospital last trip and while the service was super fast and effiecient, recieved crap in the way of pain killers. I think it helps if you know where to go and whom to talk with. If you need good meds, take a local.
  20. Stayingfor 8 nights in July. quoted a rate of 1,150 baht per night for a single deluxe (get 1 night free). Total for 8 nights is 8050 baht. (includes breakfast, but I heard that was a shit breakfast anyway). What do you guys think about this "value" for low season? Reviews are largely positive for this place. Location is good. Does this compare with Areca Lodge (same price but no free night). LK Metro? Secrets? Any suggestions in the same price range? Thanks.
  21. I do party all day and all night and drinking is a big expense for me. But I don't eat in fancy restaurants often, so I save money there. Never heard of "extra money" so can't comment on that. I have come to conclude I would rather pay the girls/bars than the hotel owners since I am not myself too particular and do not spend much time in the hotel rooms.
