Hooters on Beach Road- The Food (updated Dec. 20, 2016)
Butch replied to Evil Penevil's topic in Restaurants and food
I went twice in October , once for some food and drink and the second time only for a drink , simply because they serve Asahi draft in pint glasses, which happens to be my second favourite beer behind Hoegaarden. First time I had the boneless chicken with a hot sauce as it was on special, it was actually quite decent but as we have established, expensive when compared to other venues. Decent sport on the TV (no sound though) and sitting somewhere non crowded with decent service fitted the bill that day. On my second and final visit I felt a craving for cold Asahi, went in and had a cou -
Pandoras 1st Year Anniversary Party
Butch replied to Pandoras's topic in Bars/Gogos/Business Owners' Forum
Yep, same here, Happy anniversary and well done on being one of the better bars on the Soi (IMNHO). Well managed, great girls, great beer, crap toilet. -
You've spoiled it now ! :)
-
They (the company, not the boxes) used to be advertised on the wall of the toilets in King kong bar...so I'm told.

Yeah WTF is that all about, making us wait over a year. I've got all of the eps downloaded and watched up to Ep4, the storylines seem very complex and there's a few surprises and some subtle plot developments (no spoilers lol - although I have got form for that) and from what I've sen so far, would I be right in saying we're looking at 2 different timelines?. Just a thought.

It's a treat for me, as I'm working shifts, and now weekends and on call up to Xmas I'm not going to get another chance until January at the earliest to enjoy a nice G&T. Tanqueray is bloody lovely, but if you get a chance try some "Bulldog" Gin which comes in a black bottle, it's really smooth and creamy, no lime needed either. I think it runs at about £18 for 750 ml in Tesco's, or if you're posh, £18 for 750ml in Waitrose. :) Atlas, I'd be less worried about your toenails and more concerned on where your other leg has gone.

bloody hell I can get a case of Heinekin 12x330 ml for £9 from Tesco's here in the UK. Trouble is, like Kronenburg it gives me a headache, that's why I stick to Hoegaarden these days. Gin tonic, well my taste has changed in recent years, it has to be Tanqueray Rangpur and Fever Tree tonic, nothing else will even come close to replacing it. A chilled beer on a hot afternoon as the sun sets is a wonderful way to relax and enjoy oneself.

I've noticed this a well Gus, but have no idea why. Incidentally, when the Malaysian 777 was shot down over Ukraine a couple of years ago, the aircraft that was immediatly in front of it was the EVA service out of CDG. I know that all aircraft routes were changed as a result of the tragedy, some went North past Ukraine and others went South. It might well have something to do with the availability of a flight path because both routes are fairly heavily saturated with aircraft most of the day, but of course I'm only speculating. I'll ask elsewhere and try to get an answer.

Good find there GP, thanks for posting.

Air China seem to be the cheapest of them all, they offer some very cheap flgihts to the RP as well, but from what I understand the stopovers aren't brilliant.

we flew Norwegian wings direct to the USA in the summer (I think they're affiliated or something to do with germanwings GP), overall the experience wasn't awful, but it's worth remembering to take your own headphones for the IFE or be stung $8 for a pair, plus there's no blankets , cushions etc provided but opn the flipside the IFE was excellent and free. My experience of Thompson / Thomas Cook is that their long haul flights aren't the most comfortable option to spend 12 hours on a seat with very limited recline.

Residents and regulars, how was rainy season?
Butch replied to Harvey's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
You'll do anything to get out of buying me a beer Jacko!. -
Jesus I was flying into Seeb back in the mid 70's on Gulf air VC-10's. Oman air was known as Oman Aviation back then and had about 3 planes, all held together with duct tape and prayers. By all accounts they've come a long way, and Oman is a fabulous place to visit (like Dubai but with much more class and less ostentatious examples of wealth) and offers a unique chance to see an example of unspoilt Arabia in some areas.

Residents and regulars, how was rainy season?
Butch replied to Harvey's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
I was there for two weeks in late sept / early October and managed to get wet a couple of times, more by luck than judgement, but the rainfall was nothing compared to recent years. There was some fairly heavy rain on the day I left but I didn't see any flooding at all, anywhere during my stay. Apart from the tail end of a tropical storm in mid september, our part of the Philippines (Metro Manila) has also been relatively dry, and again, 2016 seemed to be hotter and dryer than any year I care to recall. -
Hi Marleyboy I got lucky on a few trips with EVA by having a spare seat next to me, this time going outwards there was just myself and a younger guy along with an empty middle seat which always helps, I've hd it happen a few times, but then again I normally fly in low season so that might be something to do with it. I also like the A380's. despite nearly croaking it on a malaysian A380 a few years ago, they're still a great Aircraft and I've almost made my mind up to fly out on the midday Thai flight next time on theirs. The only issue being that there's a large number of arrivals from

EVA air are going to be 10 abreast in economy in the future, as from 2017 when an aircraft (777) goes in for its 5 year "D" check, the seating configuration will be changed. EVA have declined in recent years, I last year I had 2 really really crappy trips with them, but my most recent one in October was actually not that bad, but not a patch on Cathay who we use for our UK-HKG-MNL trips. I actually realised that I've been using EVA since the late 90's and only used Thai 3 times for my trips to los, most probably because despite everything else, EVA always remain price competitive. I've

GP you seem to have your finger on the pulse and you've had experience within the TA industry, I'd definitely back you up for that. I think it would be appreciated and a useful tool for guys looking to head out.

I'll check that out GP, might have a look at their business class fares for May / June as well. +1 well spotted.

Maybe bust him down to Corporal?.
-
Hi CalEden Have you ever been upgraded to Laurel at the check in?, I've read that EVA occasionally bump people up from elite to Laurel, even more of a chance if if they're silver card or better, free of charge.
-
GP that's not a bad deal at all. A couple of years ago we took the Malaysian daytime flight to KL and I ended up paying £70 for a night plus another £90 for parking (but it was 3 weeks - still probably more than what it would cost at T2). I'll google Leonardo hotel for future reference!. Cheers.

I went through on foot this trip using the VIP service, rather than the cart (always need to stretch my legs). I had a decent chat with the girl escorting me, she took me through the immigration and I got my bags very quickly and was out of the door within 25 minutes of getting out of the aircraft. The girl also stayed with me while I got a new SIM card at the stand and up until I found my Taxi driver. It really does take a chunk of hassle out of the arrivals process and it is a very slick and professional service indeed. In this case it meant the difference between leaving SVB airport and

5 baht for farangs and 10 baht for Thais I heard.

How did you rate Thai GP?. Decreasing the number of toilets makes good economical sense to the bean counters I guess, but to the average traveller it just racks up yet another penny pinching exercise and inconveneince. Anyone remember the toilet arrangement on the old L1011-Tristars? They were all at the rear and there were about 7 of them!, in addition to those in Biz and first. Back when smoking was allowed on flights, I must have passively smoked about 400 bensons a trip.
