cheap longstay place?
pattysteve replied to doughnutmeal's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
Agree with Braveheart,if you want specific info give us a tighter spec. Having said that, cheap and cheerful on 3rd rd,do your own cleaning etc. 5000B/mnth plus electric and water. One step up decent guest house no pool but including maid service etc.10000/15000/mnth inclusive. Next would be cheap hotel with pool, barter for long stay.15000/18000/mnth From there you get many more choices from 20000/100000+/mnth So Doughnut more info needed. -
Stay in a hotel have a room each, much better for all the activities Also the way you can be closer to the nightlife.
-
This topic has been covered before. Replies range from "wouldnt touch with a barge pole" .."robbing bastards"...to slightly better.."use them but with caution and barter hard" Good luck, but id stay in a hotel.

Or phone them, they are very helpful.

Hybrid, Valid from date of issue,so you just need to time it right if applying by post. If you are going to visit the consulate, ring them to arrange a time for appointment. OMG it seems i got a visa Q wrong, i bow to Spiders more thorough reading of the regulations.

Big huraaaaaaaaay for the boonies Its all in the interpretation,Hull seem to have the best. Seriously tho Hull will do a 24 hr turnround by post(well 24 hrs in thier hands so maybe 4 days with postage times),just download the forms from website.
-
I agree, visiting friends etc, dont think thats a problem its not like they ask for any proof of this. My impression from visiting Hull on 2 occasions is they really dont give a shit, pay your money nothing else matters.
-
Naaaaaaaaah. Its only 2 mnths ago i gave my buddy a lift to Hull, got the visa in 20 minutes flat,no specific reasons needed.
-
The only other way i know is to get type O none immigrant visa, multiple entry. This visa is valid for 12 mnths and gives you 90 days before having to do a visa run then another 90 days,if you time your last visa run just before the 12mnths is up it will last 15mnths.Then its a trip back to UK US etc. to get a new type O. Hope this helps. I have 2 buddies living in LOS now who use this method(both under 50)

Over 50 YES Need to buy a property NO.

Ah sorry i think you misunderstood my point. I was trying to say that if you book cattle class with China air, then when you get to the check in ask for upgrade to bizz class. Here is my point, they say sorry bizz class full. Then you are stuck in cattle class

The vast majority of hotels have Sophon cable tv,very basic programmes ie news and pirated films.Western sports and films etc are mainly shown on UBC which is a satellite company. So if a hotel states cable its nothing special.

Thanx Mike, Very helpful info, though i will have to find a bank that doesnt need a UK address or maybe go offshore. Any other Expats who do it differently to Mike? Again thanx Mike
-
Thanx Mike,im assuming that your 4.75% net is from an account where they agree to pay interest gross, and there is some form of documentation you have to complete to confirm you are living abroad?
-
Heres a Q probably just for Expats. Have you ever considered transfering large amounts of cash to Thailand, say maybe £100K.If so what would be the circumstances to make this a good idea. Im not talking about cash transfered for property purchases, just for living expences. One or two of my doubts are the safety and security of Thai banks, and if at some point you have to return home and the currency exchange has changed to your detrement. Any other problems that you have encountered either personally or a friend has had would be helpful too. Thanx guys.....Steve
