EVA Economy or Delux

Recommended Posts

Well one more question, with the internet deals at EVA right now for a january flight ($560/econ or $790/Deluxe) the question becomes which to take. Yes I know the deluxe is without a doubt better if you need the room but some of us are kinda short and the more you save getting there the more you can spend while there.

So, what is the main difference in comfort & amenities for upgrading to deluxe ?

The legroom is the main difference, so if you can cope with the space in cattle class there is no reason to upgrade. I can't, so I prefer the Deluxe class on EVA flights.

One more thing to mention is that you have individual screens in Deluxe, not sure about cattle on that one. But I never really like to watch movies anyway. You might want to check this out with EVA in case this is of importance to you.

Food is the same.

Since the mediocre food is the same, the additional space (especially legroom) is the main difference. If you're short then it may not be worth the extra bucks. At 6'1", I greatly appreciated the additional legroom, particularly on the long flight between LA and Taipei.

On my return flights, the Evergreen Deluxe section had far more open seats than in Economy making it easier to position yourself so another passenger didn't have to climb over you to get to the latrine, interrupting your sleep. Unfortunately, I've never been able to sleep aboard an aircraft unless I was wearing a helmet, rifle, LBE, two parachutes, and a rucksack.

That's mostly the philosophy I had about it and being short (5'6") I don't think I'll be needing much extra legroom. Plus the 200 bucks difference will be well spent. :)

I'm curious on where you saw $790 for Ever Deluxe? That's a great price for high season.

Hub

On thier website, under the hot deals section. 790 roundtrip from lax.

I had to go the cheap route and fly economy (it's all about the time spent there not how you get there)

Thnnks for reponse.

I have to say I would have paid the extra cash. I just flew Cathay business and don't think I could manage another dreaded 22 hours in economy, when economy plus tickets are avilable fo a few hundred more.

To each his own though, hve fun.

For me at 6'1" the seat size and space are worth the extra cost alone. I also tend to watch a lot of movies and the individual screens and movie choices with Deluxe are just what I enjoy. Economy has the ceiling drop down screens - so no choice and possibly a poor view depenidng on your seat.

But if you're not into movies and don't need the space - save the bucks for more important things

Bigger seats, more leg room, much more recline on the seat backs, footrests, individual screens and choice of movies.

And, best of all, you don't have to mix with the riff raff in cattle class.

be seeing you

In May I flew economy - choosing the aisle seat in the last row because the last two rows only have 2 seats across on the sides instead of 3. I'm only 5'7" so leg room isn't that big an issue but its such a long damn flight that in November I chose to fly Evergreen Deluxe. I have difficulty sleeping on planes - problems sitting long periods of time, so the extra room was useful as I could stand and move around near the seat easier. Since leg room is not an issue, the main advantage I found was that in the Evergreen Deluxe it was easier to find space for my carry-on (they say one but I had one plus a laptop in a case with no problem). I travel light so I only have the carry on and when the plane lands, it is a hell of a lot easier to get off the plane quickly in E.D. then in economy.

Between the two services, I don't know that it is really worth the extra money. The seat itself is just slightly roomier, the leg rest is o.k. but doesn't extend enough to truly be like a 'recliner'. I guess if money was the main issue I wouldn't bother with the upgrade. I am booked in January on Evergreen Deluxe - total price including taxes $900 from LAX.

Pretty much the only advantage I can see that might be worth it is the individual screens, leg rest and room to stand. Well I'm short, have my own laptop with a dvd player in it and got a seat with a power port (and extra batteries) and can easily sit for 11 hours (I can sleep anywhere).

I'm flying out on the 11th will be in Bangkok at about 1:40 in the morning for 13 days of heaven.

Anyone gonna be on my flight ??

I am also 5'6" and I upgrade to Evergreen Deluxe with my miles on the longhaul flight, if i don't have the miles, I usually fly economy and it isn't that bad for us short people. One time I paid extra for Evergreen Deluxe and was still in Economy from Taipei to Bangkok, they only guarantee Evergreen Deluxe on the long haul flights.

In September i noticed they have a small footrest for the economy passengers which was nice.

Evergreen Deluxe is very nice and one of the reasons I like it is less people but I'm going to fly Economy from Taipei to LAX or SFO next trip, pop a xanax and I am out cold. :beer Call Eva at 1-800-695-1188 and get your seat assignment, i like the aisle seat in the middle (D seat), at the most only 1 person is going to climb over you.

Save your money for the girls. B)

good luck

When I just came back from BKK to LHR the check in staff at Don Muang were giving Deluxe pax a piece of paper to read.

Basically it said they were overbooked on Evergreen and would give you ???baht to travel in economy.

I forget the amount (maybe around 6000) but it wasn't really any better than if you had bought an economy ticket in the first place.

I doubt if they got many takers, I told them I had no objection being moved upstairs but that fell on deaf ears :D
