12Months open return

Hi,

Been coming to Pattaya for the last 6 years but this year I retire and am hoping to spend at least 9 months in Pattaya from September this year before deciding to live out my years there.

The problem I face is trying to get a 12 months open return to Thailand from the U.K.. The best I've come up with so far is £507 plus taxes on EVA from London. They say they cannot book a flight, outward and return, more than 11 months in advance for both trips. Therefore if I book now I will have to put a date on the return for Jan 06.

If I want to alter the date I would have to pay Eva £75. If anybody has had similar problems or know a better way could you please let me know.

Sells airline tickets with open returns. usually 6 months with price of ticket and an extra $75 for a 12 month open return. All the trips I have seen were from US to other parts of the world. Someitmes a Biz class ticket goes for $1200-$1500 US to LOS.

A charge of £75 for the ability to change the return date is probably quite a good deal. You could always wait till nearer September before buying your tickets but you would of course run the risk that ticket prices would be considerably higher.

 

I take it you'll be obtaining the appropriate visa before flying out.

Thanks a lot for your reply.

I'm getting a retirement visa O-A which is valid for 12 months and renewable. I've been seeing a Thai Girl for the last 3 years and if everything goes alright, that why I'm spending up to a year out there before I decide what to do, I might be getting married, no adverse comments please.

If anybody has any comments about travel arrangements I would be happy to hear.

Both Qatar and Emirates do a 1 yr ticket from MAN for around 550 quid incl tax. No penalties for changing the return after the date of outward travel as long as it's within the validity period of the ticket.

I know a guy who claims to purchase tickets which purport to be set returns (fuixed dates) but gets them changed by a travel agent for a couple of thousand baht by a travel agent somewhere in Pattaya or Jomtien. He generally pays around £375 for his tickets and has travelled with EVA,Emirates and Quantas. I know for sure he bought a £430 quantas return and extended for two moths with no fee other than the one from the agent.

 

I will see him next week in Pattaya and will find out what he does and where.

A friend of mine flies to Thailand on a single ticket.He gets round the reg`s by purchasing a single onward journey ticket to either KL or Cambodia.He just throws the onward ticket away,and when it`s time to come home,he gets a new single ticket............

Get a single to Thailand and then start all your tickets from Bangkok. Thats the easy way as your tickets bought in Thailand will be changeable at zero ocst.

 

To give you an example:

 

I flew BKK-LHR last week on Thai. My ticket is 6 months fully flexible and I paid Bt26,400 (GBP 377 @70 to the pound). I never end up losing half a ticket as I never stay in the UK very long. Starting tickets in the UK is not the way to go.

Be a little leary about EVA, as I bought a ticket and changed my date to fly. Sure, there was a $100 {USD} charge, but then they added the fare difference in and I paid another $55 {USD} on top of that. Not much you can do, when you're at the ticket counter ready to go to BKK.

Thanks a lot for all your replies they were all very helpful.

I think I might take torronova advice and get a single ticket. The price for a single from U.K. is about £100 more than half the return ticket, this is without taking into account the extra you pay for changing you return ticket and all that it may entail, and might be the best.

Just today i changed my return date by 4 days. It's a great feeling, i'll be there for about 3 weeks total. When i called Eva the woman asked me to read off the "Fare Basis/Ticket Designator" which is next to your name that is all the way to the left of the ticket, the Fare Basis/Ticket Designator is in the middle of the ticket. After i read that off, she knew it was 6 months return. If i was you, i would call your airline and have your tickets handy. Good luck to you.

I buy a one year ticket from Qantas/BA each year. The conditions are, before departure date changes permitted at no charge, after departure, date changes permitted at no charge.

 

I flew home 28/2 on a ticket that I had changed the departure date twice. After ringing Qantas and changing date all that was required was to appear at check in in BKK. The Thais tried to charge a service fee of 500 baht but I had the original printout from Qantas thas showed no charges. They made one quick call and waived the charge.

 

I contact the travel agency opposite friendship on second rd, (forget name but have it in my records), tell them the approx date in which I want to return home 2 or 3 times a year and they contact me if there are any super duper deals coming up with Thai, Royak Brunei, Singapore etc.

The return portion of my Qantas / BA ticket is also a bit of insurance.

With EVA if you fly Evergreen Deluxe or better you can change you return date (after departure) on a 6 or 12 month ticket for free. If you change before your departure a new ticket is issued and a charge applied.
