Hotel Reviews from my last trip - BKK and PTY

Recommended Posts

I just came back from a 10 day tour of Bangkok and Pattaya and here is my review of the hotels that I stayed at:

:beer :beer

Swiss Grottino - Bangkok

This is a really great find - a true hidden gem.

The Good:

+ Super Super Clean Rooms

+ Larger than King size beds

+ In room safe

+ Renovated rooms - nice and shiny - owned said that the rooms were designed by the designer of the amari chain

+ No joiner fee - very friendly to guests

+ Friendly staff - very fair manager - good attitude!

+ Good location

+ Nice rooms in general

+ Great clean shiney shower and toilet

+ good price - 1700 Baht

+ Very secure

The Bad:

- Tricky to find when arriving for the first time

- View from rooms - another building - but this is quite common in Bangkok unless you are in a high rise

- No fancy lobby - not a problem for me - but for those that like a fancy glitzy lobby - this might be a down side

Score: 9/10

Will I come back? I sure will. It's a keeper!

Lek Hotel - Pattaya

The Good:

+ Very good location - very close to center - close to everything

+ Price - reasonable - 1200 baht

+ In room safe

The Bad:

- VERY VERY VERY (extremely) UNFRIENDLY HOTEL STAFF - actually - I would say that the staff are horrible - simply disgusting. They are rude, unaccommodating and plainly terrible.

- Rooms are run down, worn out and really crappy.

- Crappy bed -worn out and not very fun to sleep on

- Disgusting toilet and shower

- Did I mention the hotel staff is rude? and not friendly? and cocky? oh, yeah - this is the #1 reason that got me and my friend to find a new hotel to stay at...

Score: 2/10

Will I come back? Not even if it was for free. NEVER. :beer

Thai Garden Resort - Pattaya

The Good:

+ Very friendly staff - nice and fun

+ Price - reasonable - 1600 baht for a suite

+ In room safe

+ good food

+ nearby hotel bar - nice

+ Rooms are OK - not like rooms at the Marriott but quite OK.

+ Quiet guests - mostly europeans

+ No joiner fee

The Bad:

- Location could be better - tho the bhatbus system makes up for the location. Should not stop you from staying there

- Again, the rooms are not fancy

- Crappy bed -worn out and not very fun to sleep on

- Disgusting toilet and shower

- Did I mention the hotel staff is rude? and not friendly? and cocky? oh, yeah - this is the #1 reason that got me and my friend to find a new hotel to stay at...

Score: 7/10

Will I come back? I might. Perhaps next time I'll try to find a hotel closer to the center or maybe a hotel that's just a tad more upscale.

Did you make a mistake on the staff at the Thai Garden. You said the same thing about the Lek staff. I have tried the breakfast at the Lek. For 90 baht it is very cheap but the food in my opinion is not very good. But then for 90 baht I would guess it is a good deal.

The Lek has a new wing about 3 years old and the old wing which was renovated about a year back. The last 3 cons on the Thai Garden are exactly the same as the Lek with the staff being listed both in the good and the bad.

Great reviews, you can also read what other members think in the Hotel reviews section.

I have not been to the Lek breakfast but across the road International do a similar 95 baht buffet, buffet was cold and many flies around, best to go to the Haven or Sportsman on Soi 13 for good breakfast food.

I will be adding some hotel reviews but please give me a bit of time.

hi x4p3gsu I dont know if the staff have changed a lot at the LEK since july last year but when i stayed there they were one of the reasons I liked the place so much and when i left my swimming trunks there when i left for Bangkok and gave them a call they went out of there way to send them on to me same day no charge so maybe you expect too much or they didn't like you for some reason it is thailand after all

OOOOPs - sorry guys but I had a small mistake in my original post.

The mistake was in the bad attributes of the Thai Garden resort.

Some of the bad stuff should not be there!

So, the botrtom line - the mistakes were only related to the Thai Garden Resort .

The system would not let me edit this post so I am re posting it: Here is the correct post:

Regarding the LEK:

a. We stayed in the new wing - and I was actually thinking "what? is this the new wing???"

So I met an american guy near the lift and asked him if this was in fact the new wing - and he said "yeah this is the new wing, doesn't look like it .... but if you would have seen the old wing - then you would appreciate the new one..."

b. I checked out two rooms, one was on the 3rd floor (my room) and the other on the 8th floor (my friend) - they were both (using moderation) - not very nice.

c. regarding the staff, I agree that opinions vary, after all we are dealing with people and the staff might have had a bad day... maybe ... I really don't know. All I can say is that I did nothing to upset them, and I am actually a very calm person. The staff might have changed since some of you were there. I really don't know.

All I do know is that we were treated in a very unpleasant manner by more than one person - and unpleasant is an understatement.

d. Regarding our expectations - well, yeah I know this is Thailand - I've been to Thailand many times before (tho not to Pattaya) and all I can say is that this kind of hotel staff attitude is not very common in Thailand. Thai people are very kind and friendly in general.

I just got back a week ago after a 6 day stay at the Lek

I found the staff unfriendly but not unpleasant didn't see any smiles from them

I also stayed in the new wing our room was OK quite new but it was spoiled by the bed linen and towels they were very old and worn and threadbare

Also you had to put towels in the bath if you wanted fresh ones There was also a sign you could put on the bed if you didn't want the bed changed :beer

First time i have seen this in Thailand

Breakfast buffet had a very wide range of food both western and Thai but food only so so excellent value though at 95 baht

Cheers
