Hi Guys

Coming back to Thailand in September B) and will be staying in Pattaya for 3 or 4 days.

I have been to Pattaya a couple of times but did not stay in town as I have a friend who has a weekend house about 20 minutes out of town.

This time I will be staying hopefully where the action is.

I am sure we met a couple of people last time who were staying at the Areca Lodge which I think is just at the bottom of the road where one of the main 'open' bar areas are?

At the top of the road opposite the side of the bars I think that there might have been a gogo club 'schools' am I in the right area?

Does anyone recommend the Areca Lodge ?

Thanks B)

The Areca is a nice place and is about 3 years old. It is located on Soi Diana mid away between 2nd Rd and Soi Buakaow.

Just got back on Saturday. I stayed in the Areca for three weeks with my Thai wife. Excellent staff, good food and quality rooms. you pay a little more than other hotels and they never budge for discount. Deluxe room 1190bht (pool View) or std room 990bht (wall View).

Not many go go bars close by but a motorbike taxi will have you in the middle of the action within 5 mins.

I would recomend the Areca

just 5 more days and I will be staying here, is there any problems ever taking girls back?

NO.

However they can be strict about girls I.D. cards. But this just depends on the staff that are working the night shift. :bj1

So, sometimes they are insistent regarding cards, other times they don't bother. T.I.T. :buzzsaw

Based on my last trip Dec. 2004 you had to sign a little chitty confirming the girl was residing in your room. (Your room rate includes breakfast for two next day.)

Other than the above there are no problems. Enjoy. (you will :behead )

Chok dee kap.

Can recommend Areca Lodge but not if you are a smoker. As I recollect all rooms are "No Smoking" but have a very small balcony where you can smoke.

No problem provided girls have original ID. Most of the night staff are pleasant. One howere I do not remember on previous visits is anal retentitive. I brought in a 25 y/o the other night. Yes I know her father is probably younger than me, but the b...h behind the counter had a face on her that would curdle milk. My bar fine had more personality in her big toe.

I noticed the same thing when staying in late April. I could almost see the daggers being shot from her eyes... Otherwise it was a great place to stay. Pretty decent 24hr restaurant just down the street too, at the corner of 2nd road, which definitely came in handy after long bar crawls!

This is definately going to be my first choice for my next trip because:

A. The close proximity to Lolitas without having to actually pass Lolitas with your barfines.

B. The distant proximity from the beer bars. 1. I am tired of taking detours around the block to avoid the eye daggers and cat calls from jealous past BFd BGs on Soi 7 & Soi 8. I even rented a motorbike so that I could make the detours more quickly or just fly by the offended bar. 2. No music and less traffic/general congestion.

C. Have heard good reviews about the property.

D. No current construction in the area and doesn't appear to be room for new construction. Just did Flipper Lodge and construction has started south of it. Nothing like being woken every morning at 09:00 by concrete pillars being pounded into the ground.

Why do some of u guys worry so much?

I know I've only had one trip but when I went back to bars I didn't worry. I just smile and talk to them and buy them a drink or two.

I must admit though I don't think I'd barfine one of her friends as that would be rubbing her nose in it. At a gogo yes

Plenty of open area behind the Areca, fortunately nothing happening as of now.

I have not stayed there but please find the nreview of one of the member of this site:

Areca Lodge

"I decided to try the Areca Lodge this time. I got a standard room at 990B/night and also opted to use their taxi service. I was concerned that arriving 30 mintues early at BKK that the taxi may not be there. I made it thru immigration, got my bag, cleared customs, and changed money all in 25 minutes. I was ready to go 5 minutes before scheduled landing time. I looked for my driver, and there he was. Nice. 2000 baht for the trip, the car was great, the driver was good.

I was impressed with the hotel. Great staff and service. Prices good on everything they offer. Free buffet breakfast from 7-10 am but I was rarely awake that early.

My room was larger than the other hotels I have stayed at, but the bathroom was not quite as nice. The shower was part of the tub and obviously the tub was built for smaller humans. Lighting was dim but adequate. Air-con was great. TV was good if you speak six languages. I would stay there again as long as their prices don't increase dramatically. Good value for the money"

Just retuned from my first trip. I spent 6 nights at Areca. Nice hotel, very good breakfast buffet included in price of room.

Guest friendly- no problems.

Good location, short walk to baht bus, resturants, shopping etc.

I only had 1 issue, when I checked into my room the air conditioner was blowing hot air only. Front desk had someone up within 5 minutes. Took him about 10 minutes to fix. No other problems.

Very nice hotel, I would stay again.

Guido

One note- The area is quiet however, there is a a chicken coop next door and the roosters get going pretty early.

Enjoyed my time at the Areca as it's a clean, comfortable and central hotel which you will aswell.....but there is a stretch of bars as you head towards second road where most of the girls will comment loudly as you walk past daily and any new gf you may have with you...be warned

Most staff are great usually but some reception staff give you the eyes when bring your bf for the day/night back  .....Besides these small obstacles I recommend the hotel.

Enjoy your stay... :D

Areca Lodge seems to be everyone's recommendation. I have not heard 1 single bad thing about it (aside from a possible chicken coop next door and a long walk to bars). That said...the price has dramatically changed since a few months ago (apparently). I have booked a room facing the pool for 1,695 baht per night during the PEAK season (01/01/06 through 01/10/06).

That is a lot compared to my other 2 choices; Sawasdee sea View Wing B for 900 baht per night or the Honey Inn for 750 baht per night. Question to the experts..Is the Areca worth B1695 vs. B900 for Sawasdee vs. B750 for Honey???

Your sincere experience and advice are greatly appreciated as I have to make a deposit very shortly on 1 of these 3 rooms! Thanks. -Pat

It's not a long walk from the Areca Lodge to the bars. There's a beer bar complex less then two minutes away.

The Areca is very nice but 1695 per night is too high IMO. I don't know about the other hotels listed. Perhaps give Sabai Inn a try(www.sabaiinn.com). Most reports say good things and I don't think that they increase rates as much as Areca for high season.

I went to enquire about a room there about a month ago, and they wanted 1200 per night. It seems a nice place, but as others have said over priced. I will be staying with my GF for Christmas and New Year, but a friend of mine will be there at the same time, and asked me find a nice hotel for him, for the period 19th Dec to 2nd Jan. They want 300 per night on top of the "High season" rate, plus compulsory 1500 New Years Eve Gala meal. The rate averaged out at nearly 1800 baht per night. Needless to say, I declined their very generous offer.

By the way, when you come out of the hotel, and turn left towards 2nd Road, and the Beer Bars you are talking about, there is (was) some spare ground opposite on the right hand side. When I was there they have started pile driving huge concrete pillars into the ground. What its going to be I've no idea, but I would say it will be a construction site for the next 12 months. Mind you the racket from the Beer Bars should drown out any noise
