I'm a qualifierd accountant in the UK (which means little I guess in Thailand :-) coming to Pattaya for a 3 month break Jan-April.

Are there any job / income opportunities beyond teaching English and how much could it pay.

Just looking to earn a bit of money to extend the visit out as much as possible :-)

You can't work here without a work permit

You can't get a permit unless you have an employer or lots of money

Most jobs here are lousy and are low pay remember you are competing with locals

If you get caught it could get nasty, real nasty

Accountant hmmm maybe you could have people in the UK send you their stuff and and do your accounting in secret here on your laptop, dunno but i think some make some extra change online selling stuff.

Official jobs would be difficult due to permits etc. Also, jobs such as managing a go-go etc. would not really be open to someone with limited contacts and experience on the ground.

I really don't think you even have enough time to contemplate consultancy work for multi-nationals in Bangkok.

Sorry but legally, I think the answer is no.

Many thanks. My idea was to do a bit of English teaching to extend my break out as the only likely opportunity to start with. At the same time look into developing a website (I know people who have web design bizs that will charge me basically cost) promoting Pattaya then starting to generate a small income from advertising revenue whist continuing to develop it. Slowly building it up, the wild idea being of maybe becoming the 'George McCoy' of Pattaya for the UK people that know him.

David :- George McCoy of Pattaya ? Yes I've seen his guide to massage parlours - but dont think this would be a proposition in Pattaya. I'm also an accountant but have not worked in that capacity for a while. I have noticed many jobs advertised for accountants in the Bangkok Post (Daily English Language newspaper), but they nearly always specify Thai Nationals with good command of English. I suppose if you worked for a large multi national company with an operation in Thailand a job there might be a possibility - thats probably the only way you could get a work-permit.

There are a few web-sites featuring Pattaya, but like this one they are aimed at promoting a bar or gogo and are probably not a commercial proposition.

No I think your best bet, if you want to spend a lot of time in Thailand, would be to temp in the UK for say 8 months and spend 4 months in LOS. May be thats what you are doing ?

George McCoy, is a sleze bag who publish's a paperback guide to the Sauna's and Massage Parlours in the UK.

With the price of a "massage" ie straight sex, being anywhere from £40 (2800 baht) upwards for 30 minutes, plus "extras", OWO,CIM and A, etc, at £10/20 each, his guide is/was usefull.

However, when you compare the costs in LOS to the UK, even a bad ST/LT, is no big deal.

Also we all know that girls, bars, and Go Go's are here today, gone tomorrow, so it would be difficult to keep up to date.

He's a sleze bag, because he gets a free shag at all the parlours he recommends in return for a good write up, so think of all the girls that you would have to shag in Pattaya. :cry1

Come to think about it, its not a bad idea after all. :clap1
