When I was in the RG back in June, I was able to use wifi by the pool with no problems but initially had to sit on the balcony to get any sort of signal. By the time I left in the middle of July, the problems had been resolved and I was able to access the internet from my room.

I would reckon that you would probably get a better signal from the pool area than some of the higher floors. In fact, there is at least one guy who works on his lap top from the cafe at the pool in View Talay 2A.

I am going to post this in my trip report this next week but figured I would plug a former board members new coffee shop which has wi-fi.

Paul Pitini, who used to post as BeachBoy, moved to Thailand a couple years ago and has been settling into the expat life real well. He has a lovely wife, a new baby girl, and seems very very happy.

Anyways, he was looking into starting a business. He looked into all sorts of things and ended up going into a quality coffee/gourmet ice cream shop. He ordered his gear from Italy (Paul is a Sicilian-American) and put ALOT of effort/thought into this place. I think it is a great spot, he does high end specialty coffee, hand made gourmet ice cream and has a nice little menu of some pretty good food. He also has beer/liquor but his specialty is his coffee. All of his prices are very good (Latte-35 Baht, Beer-55 Baht, Salads-60 Baht and his ice cream is well priced too 45-65 Baht for sundaes...) I spent over 3 hours there and could barely get my bill over 350 Baht (mostly Heineken)

He also has wi-fi available. It is free and all you have to do is ask him for the login/password.

The shop is located on Soi Buakhao not too far from Lolita’s, so it makes a nice little stop off on the way to or way home from Lolita’s. :rotflmao

Here are some photos of the shop:

Please stop by and say hello, it is a great place and Paul is a really good host.

Cheers

Joop,

Great pics and what an awesome looking place your friend has. Yet another example why I stayed 4 months in Soi Bauwhow (sp?) when I was last there. You can't find a shop that nice anywhere on Beach road or walking street!

The RG is the Residence Garden, the Royal Garden turned into the Marriott a good while ago.

Why just not have a holiday and leave the business shit behind, picking up email from an internet cafe ?

Some guys here make serious money daily, trading shares / currency impossible to leave for 2/3 weeks. Cannot use unsecured lines.

And coincidentally, the place right next door probably has the fastest, best connection I've found in Pattaya. Over two dozen nice new machines and they are always BUSY (that says something too I think) but they always had a computer available when I would stop by.

Not the cheapest I've found but 30 baht/hour is a good price. It's just north of the Soi LK Metro back entrance on Soi Bhuekow.

Thanks for the plug Joop.

We do have free Wi Fi at Caffe Pitini and it is a real fast connection.

Lots of people are using it and I am happy that I put it in.

As Joop said, I have now lived here for a couple years and just started my new Espresso/Gelato bar.

I have just returned as a new member to the board and it is good to be back.

Come on buy and enjoy the free internet service.

Well, I don't do currency trading on a daily basis, but I take my laptop with me and work a little bit every day when I'm on vacation. I have to be online about an hour for email each day as part of that. Then there is portfolio management in addition to work.

And also just chatting online with friends. The 'net is a requirement of life, not just work. It's a lot more interesting than television and takes less time.

WiFi is a plus for anyplace that has it.

Thanks Paul. I really miss a good coffee on my Thailand trips so will certainly drop by in Feb to sample your wares.

Hi

Seems a good venue to chill and have a coffee/beer. That area is definitely on the up.

We stopped by the other day. Both my wife and I had breakfast and coffee. both very good. We will be back.
