So far the cheapest meal I have had was a plate of Phad Thai from a street vendor (I think she was set up on Soi Pattayaland?).

I paid a whole 25 Baht!!

What's some of your suggestions out there for the cheap charlie's?

Theppressit night market is my favorite for cheap local food. Anyway, if you want it real cheap you can buy a packet of noodles and use the hot water from the coffee machine in the hotel to make a bowl of ramen. Some of those packets really taste delicious :)

Any of the food halls, there are a few around Carrefour, Tops, Tesco Lotus. There's a good place in the BigC festival centre to your right as you enter(in the far right corner of the building) all the Thai's go there to eat and it's very cheap. :chogdee2 :party :gulp Of course any of the street vendors selling noddle soup, all good stuff. :D :D

Yep Tops is good but watch out for the hygeine standards.

One of the smaller food kiosks (near the far end) the lady picked up several ingredients with bare hands and threw it into the pot.

Why does it matter - well eventually someone will be unlucky and pick up food poisoning - I certainly felt rather rough at times, after eating here - but the upside is a wonderful filling plate of stirfry Chicken for 50 baht. I normally order two.

They also have a two tier pricing system. The bar girl i was with got hers for 20 baht less. When I asked why she said "you ferrang, you have money"

I stopped eating at Topps when I reasoned it was pointless spending say 1500 baht on alcohol every night, when one is trying to save say 300 baht a day eating cheaply. Could not see the logic in it.

Comaghee! my friend. what were you eating last thursday afternoon on soi 6? ..haha

ok my BG special friend took me to the tops on the corner of klang central and 2nd road.

the main cafe in the food hall is open 24 hours and also does good farang food.

the last meal i had there was for a green chicken curry and it cost me 60bht.

i didnt try some of the shifty shops there that were open during normal hours.

the soiside bbq skewers are 10bt each and are an option at 3am also.

Oz .. i hate being home!

pattaya klang on central road;

the right side has a rice/mango place (excellent) then a drink stand, then a noodle/food stand...thats the one to go to. The neighbors stand is good too, it has the refrigerator. I never got sick there and most plates were 20 to 25 baht.

I dont recommend the places on the left side though! And the oyster omlette lady on the street side will try to cheat you too, with dual pricing.

Dual pricing: My TGF went to get me a fish at a street stall, he said 40 baht, she said No hot sauce, he said Why not? She said It's for a farang. He said Ok 50 baht.

She argued, How would you feel if he did that to you in his country? He said I'm not there.

In the end she got the fish for 49 baht. <grin Next time we got fish from the nice woman at the stall next door and gave him a big grin.

There are many and it helps if you have a TGF. The Thepprasit night market as already mentioned, the complex in Ting Tong's photo, the Carrefour food court and a small mom and pop place near the Soi Arunathai school. But by far the cheapest, cleanest and and best tasting meals are those prepared by my TGF in our place. Some examples: you can buy eggs for 2 baht each, bread for less than 1 baht a slice, nice cuts of chicken and pork for 50 baht per package, fresh fruits and vegatables cheap (when I first saw the prices in baht I did a quick conversion and thought that was about a third of what I paid here at home, then realized the weight was per kilo and was even happier). A large bag of rice is around 120 baht and will last for a very long time.

Night food market at the junction of 3rd. road and Soi 17 (also called Theprasit Soi 8 if you turn into it from Theprasit road). It's the road leading to the Lion Bar, Eden Pub & Caddy Shack.

Thats another one of my favorite places but don't get there much lately as I'm on the other side of town and the cost of transportation is almost the cost of the meal. That breakfast was 36 baht when I first started going there, then they jacked the price up to 38 and now 40, outrageous.

Damn, I'm getting hungry! I can't wait to get back and find some more places to hit up for good cheap food.

street food carts are the cheapest deal in town, but be careful about what you order- stay away from meat dishes. I often saw raw beef, chicken and pork just sitting out- no ice, no refrigeration whatsoever.

I think it's a little safer to eat at the small Thai restarants- not as good a deal as the street carts- but more variety. You can still have a meal for what a drink alone would cost back at home.

If you really to do it cheap, head to the beach on Soi 20 - you can turn over rocks and find clams, small crabs, and other sea beasties. BBQ them up, and you've got yourself a free lunch!

For the cheapest Charlie... learn how to be a balloon chaser :D

For really good and cheap all you can eat food, you have to try one of the all you can eat bbq places... Lots of em on 3rd road... prices from 119/bhat or if you have a TG w/you, you can go to one of the night time bbq resturants that spring up on many dirt lots... prices from 59-79 bhat... Lots on the street that parallels 2nd road by Big C.

Don't get dragged to MK, as that is mondo expensive (and full of Japanese & Korean tour groups too), but BG's love it...

... or if you're just looking to be CHEAP.. buy a cup-of-noodles (at a food store, Big C, Tesco, Carre4) for 10-15bhat. It'll cost you way more at 7/11...

but seriously, why fly all that way to eat cup of noodles?
