I am going to book early for Xmas 2007 and have been looking around for cheap flights from Manchester. Etihad seem to be very competative, but I have always flown Emirates before and been impressed with them. Has anybody tried them? Are they ok? I had to book one leg of my trip -Dubai to BKK -Business Class last year due to leaving it too late, and having been spoiled by the extra seat space and legroom, I am thinking of doing the whole trip Busines Class this time and again Etihad seem relatively cheap (1673 USD)

Also, cheaptickets.com seems a good site. What do you think?

Etihad's biz class is the best value for money premium class product from the UK by a long way..... if you are getting it for 1,673 USD it's an absolute bargain. Fully-flat, pod-type beds, huge AVOD screen system that will take your playstation/ipod etc.

I've used Etihad for my last two trips and if they hadn't changed their schedules I'd be using them for my next trip as well. Good airline and Abu Dhabi is a great place to change planes - small so you don't spend your time walking and the shops take any currency - though change is in Dinar.

Haven't tried business class but judging by economy it should be good.

Agree about the quality.I have flown with three middle east carriers,Emirates,Qatar and Etihad. One thing I have found is as they get more established service goes downhill. Not major things, just little attention to detail such as frequency of drinks and time taken to clear meal trays.I would say Etihad quality is how Emirates were about 3 years ago.

Abu Dhabi's Ok but they've only got seven stalls if you want a dump. Best do it before take off, lighten the load, get there quicker :banghead

A big thank you for all for the replies, and especially flighty...it's these little details that can mean so much!

However, having now tried to find the deal I thought I had made a careful note of, it has disappeared. It seems likely that I confused myself considerably, because there are no flights anywhere near the low figure in my first post.

Having juggled around with dates I now find that the cheapest is Quatar at £1442, then Etihad at £1729. Sorry to trouble you again, but is Etihad worth the extra £300? The times for both flights are similar, both without long stop-overs.

Thanks, Steve

Etihad is available at a lot less than that. Their own website is offering £1330 0r £1180 if you forego the Limosine service. I consider Etihad to be the better of the two at the moment, but not £300 worth. Qatar are OK.

Have now gone off Etihad now they have changed there schedules, the afternoon flight is

useless for a connection onwards to Bangkok unless you wish to wait hours and hours and hours.

I always used the 11.00am service from Gatwick which arrived at Bangkok at 07.35am with

only a 1hr stop-over which was great.

The sevice from Manchester to Bangkok is now much better than the Heathrow service.

And Etihad are getting much more expensive.

I am looking to fly to BKK on the 22nd December and return on the 9th Jan 2008. I have looked high and low and can't find anything cheaper than £1729.60 with Etihad or £1442.80 with Qatar. This doesn't include a limo so far as I am aware.

When I looked again at cheaptickets.com it turns out that they add a lump (about £25) for posting the tickets from the US, so they are more expensive than Opodo in view of that extra charge.

  • 2 weeks later...

I had etihad business booked for christmas out of gatwick on the 20th december, then they cancelled all flights from gatwick and moved me to heathrow on the 19th with a 12 hour delay in abu dhabi on the way out, i got that changed to no delay which was ok, then 2 weeks ago they changed it again to a 9 hour delay at abu dhabi on the way back so i told them to stuff it up their arse, i have now booked with thai business class.

etihad business were the dogs brilliant last xmas but i am not playing their games and will wait till they get their new a340 - 600 aircrafts on the heathrow route.

Recently sent email to Customer Services at Etihad asking them why as a Silver Member i should pay Etihad £250.00 more than flying with Qatar or Emirates ex Manchester ! Still waiting for a reply. Would be interested to know if any members have booked with Etihad recently for flights ex Manchester July onwards and how much ?

Flew Etihad at the end of Jan this year from Manchester for £495 return booked only 1 week ahead

Great connections only 1 hour outbound in Abu Dhabi Flight was late from Manchester but they hold the flight to Bangkok as about 50% were flying on to Bangkok

Coming back about 2 hrs in Abu Dhabi Love Abu Dhabi airport its small so no walking long distances Have a nice coffee shop which sells liquor and great duty free

Highly recommended

Agree with you there soi unwise, I first flew with Etihad back in 2003, when they were very new flying out from the UK, at the time I only paid £224 from Gatwick, for a return flight as I working in the Travel Industry, one of the excellent perks of doing so, very very cheap flights, The service was exceptional, but as you say further flights were not so exceptional.

In my opinion the Manchester to BKK schedule is very good for a non-direct flight, with a maximum stopover of no more than 2 hours, giving you a chance to spread your legs, releive yourself and take your nicotine fix if you are a smoker.

I just paid £460 return flight not as good as what I was paying a few years ago, a big difference to the price of £375 which was widely available this time last year, bloody British taxing policies, and partly down to the Airlines who only release a certain number of seats at certain times, just to keep their pricing at a certain level, I'll be cursing the travel agent if the plane is empty when I fly, as It has been quite empty on my previous flights.

Hi Omar.

I like Etihad have flown with them 4 times now since they started September 2004 and

all departing from Gatwick and i certainly miss that flight now it has finished from Gatwick.

They now have 2 flights daily from Heathrow but the 13.05pm service is useless for

connection to Bangkok, it arrives Abu Dhabi 23.45pm and EY402 leaves for Bangkok

at 21.50 great so you have to wait until 9am next day for next connection.

I am returning to Bangkok on Saturday 9th June but flying non-stop with Thai Airways at £462.

Was quoted £720 with Etihad Departing Heathrow at 13.05pm with 10hr wait at Abu Dhabi,

and ariving Bangkok at 18.30pm.

Eithad you need to sort yourselves out or you will have no customers at all.
