Not from Las Vegas, but not far away, I just paid $1,450 to get my daughter to Thailand for summer - big bargain, the agent claimed. I'm starting to understand "sticker shock" a bit better.

If you can get to LAX, China Air will get you to BKK for $1100.

Leaving on a tuesday in June.

If you can wait until November, the price drops to $900.

Perhaps the costs from LV to LAX would not be worth it?

Yes, by air - and not even including the horrible suitcase schlepping among LAX terminals - you certainly wouldn't make up the money from almost anywhere in the US. I haven't checked but I think you'd probably pay MORE to get the cheap CI price.

Las Vegas, you can drive to LA, but is it worth $150 one way, minus the gas cost? Probably not, even if your mom drove you without parking charges and all.

I have flight on Cathay from LAX in September for $924.00 total cost. Prices may drop between now and then but with fuel going up decided to take what I could now. Flying from the midwest I found some tickets for $260.00 roundtrip to LAX so that brings my total for the trip to $1180.00. Checked with NWA and they are asking for $1700.00 roundtrip MSP-BKK.

You didn't say when you were flying. Prices always go up in the summer months as schools out and families are taking vacations plus you have many Asian students flying home on their vacations. Probably the cheapest flight from Vegas to LAX would be on Southwest, they usally have special fares posted for internet users that appear on Tuesday and close on Thursdays.

Price from Pensacola Florida two weeks ago was 1200. Then it went to 1350. Went up to 1550 then back down to 1350 ish. Im holding off for ten more days because I think the price drops about 90-100 days before flight, then I will jump on the ticket.

BUT, I am getting nervous, maybe the 90/100 days out wont drop. Oh well, now I know 1200 wasn't a bad price. This was for a late Sept flight.

I just looked on Sidestep and Korean Air had some one hop flights in September for $1,256 but with long layovers in Incheon. Didn't know they flew directly into Las Vegas.

Traveling light with just carry-on and going through LAX will be cheaper.

There always seems to be a bargain to be had through LAX if your dates and choice of airline are flexible.

Not a bad price from the east coast.

$1,256 but with long layovers in Incheon.

One needs to make sure of the plane changes and layovers involved. Some fares seem like real deals until you get the itinerary. Whoops! Overnight in Bumfuck! Or, more realistically, a 5, 6, 7, hour layover.

I agree with Sateef, check out the specials from LAX or SFO and if you can get a cheap fare to there, only take a carryon. I have never done this, but will consider and I'll check it out for next trip.

With the money you save you can buy a new wardrobe in Pattaya and a new suitcase to bring them home with you!

Why not?

These days I'm away from Florida more than I'm there so I'm never for sure where I will be on any given day. I wanted to go again in October so I decided to go ahead and book from a Midwest airport since chances are high I will be in that area.

I too was finding flights anywhere from $1100 to $1600 in that time frame. It really just depended on what airport you were leaving from.

I knew I couldn't wait forever to book with the ever increasing cost of oil, so I got on vayama.com and searched Midwest airports. I found a fare of $1200 for a flight from Columbus, OH that is a combination of Delta and Cathay Pacific. Even though it goes through JFK, it's an early morning flight which gets me to BKK at 1730 next day. I like that much better than those midnight arrivals that were the only other choices.

Another trick is to find a flight out of SFO and then look for the cheapest flight into the Bay Area instead of just SFO. Easy transportation can be had from OAK and SJC to SFO, and often there are better bargains to these area airports.

I have usualy taken a cheap flight to LAX from Vegas. Then got on one of the airlines from there to LOS. Saved a couple hundred that way. The only exception was when JAL had a flight from Vegas. On the way over it stopped in LAX to pick up passengers and top of the tanks before the long leg. But on the way back it went directly to Vegas non stop. But that flight no longer exists. It was very odd taking the 40 min flight to LAX in a 747.

Kayak.com

Planes were either Delta or Koren Air code share with Delta out of Atlanta via Inchon. Flew KAL last year, not too bad, better than AA or Northwest. Not as nice as Cathay. Those are only ones I've flown so far.

Had one also that was AA thru Narita and back using KAL via Inchone to Atlanta. $1342 as of 6/14/2008

November price on EVA LAX-BKK is now $999 plus 7% tax.

I booked 3 days ago at $939. With other airlines cutting flights,

discounts may be harder to come by due to lack of demand.

Get it booked while the getting's good.

  • 3 weeks later...

I just took a quick look and it's about 1200 from SFO to BKK on United and about 125 r/t SFO to LAS on Virgin America (VX).

Another bonus is that VX arrives/departs from int'l terminal.

The current frugal deal (no Star Alliance mileage accrual)

Singapore SFO to HKG $882 r/t (I think $105 more to accrue miles)

JetStar Asia HKG to BKK $128 (sing$)

($978 r/t with 2 week advance)

My July trip:

(i dont get to book up in advance, but i get to go every 6 weeks :)

China air = $1,350

Thai =$1,850

thai just added a $300 fuel surcharge

expect others to folllow

i would not be surprised if ticket holders already issued for later this year get hit up with surcharge

however, if you can book and buy now, it makes sense

then again, if you have to take multiple legs and lose FF miles

is it worth it?

solution: stay longer to get the most Pussey for the air ticket cost :grin-jump

BillWilson,

I purchased my ticket pns-iah-lax-bkk on the 20th of June for about 1750US. As of today I have not been charged the extra fuel sur charge that was added last Wednesday. I did get a notice that my return flight portion from LAX to Houston had been moved up by 20 minutes or so.

I got seats 45D going and 54D coming back. I really doubt I'll get the return trip as booked; the return will be in early October and I suspect Thai Air will not do a 'straight to LAX' flight. More than likely land at Osaka for gas. Hope that doesn't get me into LAX too late for the red eye to Houston.

Not surprisingly Cathay Pacific wants to pick-up some disgruntled Thai passengers with their July Deal of the Month after Thai announced their cancellations and reductions of service to the coasts:

Bangkok or Singapore from New York or Los Angeles as low as $926.

Deal of the Month

I couldn't find LAX to BKK for less than $1010 but that's still a good deal on CathayPac.

Mon thru Thur effective Sept 1 to Nov 30. Fri thru Sun a bit more.

Some long layovers.
