Cheap UK-LOS Flights for Xmas/N-Year!

Recommended Posts

Hello All...

Not been on this forum for a while. Is 'Otherway' still here so I can 'mentally torture' him again?

Anyway, I just booked 3 month stint in LOS leaving London on the 28th of December. Got a great

deal with Qatar Airways for a mere £492 inc.

Now, you have to mess around with outbound/return dates but there's lots of dates even at the slightly higher fare of £528 inc which is still a fair price for High Season. Qatar operate brand new Airbus flights LHR-DOH-BKK with full on-board entertainment(incl the Flight Attendants!) so they are worth a punt!

I am an Emirates Frequent Flyer (Silver) but there fares have went through the roof! So if your thinking

of LOS for New Year....then what you waiting for? Have a look.......

If your flying from Manchester, the connection can be a bummer! Drive/Train/Bus down to LHR or LGW....might be worth it!

Qatar has decent connections from MAN 3 days a week .. W-F-Su outbound and Tu-Th-Sa return. There are still the one-stop options offered by Emirates, Etihad, China, Swiss, Singapore etc etc before I would consider going anywhere near Heathrow or Gatwick.

Its all a question of price though eh? I am travelling down from Glasgow! WTF? (I hear you say!)

Emirates - GLA/BKK - £711 (Xmas/ NY period)

Qatar Air - LHR/BKK - £492 ( "" "" "" )

As I booked 2 tickets, saving is £438!! That will buy an awfull amount of 'joy' in LOS!!

Shop-around I think is the order of the day. My good mate Vidman flew NCL-BKK instead of his

local GLA airport.....saved a few £££'s too!! Yes, it can be a pain, but the saving goes a long way to your

stay in LOS!

The difference in price on Qatar for the cheapest comparable tickets (LON v MAN) is 25 quid (490 v 515) ......... so bugger all savings and a whole lot of hassle to go via London.

Apart from anything else, 492 quid isn't the all-up price you're paying if you have to factor in the costs of GLA-LON return, is it?

It is buttons for me to get to Manchester Airport, the frequent train goes right in there, Obviously same same the other way. I wouldn't feel like a long train journey from LHR or LGW after an overnight flight from Bkk. Or doing the M25. Of course a shuttle on BA or British Midland is an option...about £100..or more these days?

Most certainly £492 Xmas/New Year is an bargain you got there........but how do you plan to get from Galsgow to LHR..... not a cheap place the smoke.

Not fancy PIA Tom? :bow

Jacko....

Easy enough. I used to live in the LHR area (Feltham). I will drive down the day before the flight. Then overnight at the Travelodge Feltham (£29 per room) and up the next day fresh as a daisy for the flight....easy!The 24 hr Heathrow bus leaves right outside the hotel (£3.50). So do the maths.... £60 round trip for Petrol and the saving made is still over £300!!

I am all for flying out of my nearest airport and paying a bit more.....but not another £420!!! Yes, it may be a pain but worth it. That saving will pretty much pay for my Condo for near 3 months!!

Just a thought for you mongers to best use your moolah!!!

Wow, £29 for a room near LHR......last time I stayed at some shithole about 5km away, room the size of an American wardrobe! That was £85 when Noah was a lad...no pub nearby so a fortune in the bar! Absolutely shitty overpriced bus (Hopper service)...dragging my case on and off and walking miles. So bad I got a £15 taxi next day. How about the parking for the car for the weeks you are away?

I have just booked Eva, out on 9th december and return on 14th January, £688 inc taxes.

Now I know this is not the cheapest fare going but the T&Cs are good for me.

It is B class tciket which means I get FF miles and also can make some return changes for free I believe, also I don't have to pay for the ticket until 9th November.

I am having a replacement hip op on 2nd October so that gives me time to make sure that I am 100% for the rigours ahead

The Ours lady told me that 10th December was about £200 more.

I have stayed in most LHR hotels and, as you say, 'effin expensive. Go to the Travelodge website and look up 'Feltham'. As I said, the 24hr bus leaves across the road from the hotel. Its possible to drive down Feltham High St and park in one of the side streets for free. I have done this a few times (for 3 months too!) and its been fine.

Not ideal in the bigger scale of things but FREE!! If the airfare from my local airport was say £100 more, then obviously I would just book that. But this is a great option to save money and get a good hotel to boot!!

There is also a 24 hr ASDA next door to the hotel......what can I say!!

Has to be a option for some......

Emirates for me.... from Manchester. I don't mind paying the extra, I like the 3 hour break in Dubai. Am also a Silver Flyer and on my last 2 return flights have been given business class upgrades. :drunk

And if I make 3 return trips with Emirates, I just about qualify for a reward return flight - if I pay £45 for the extra miles.

Can't be arsed travellling all the way down to London and then across London just to save a £100.

Plus I have Manchester, Newcastle and Glasgow (which have Emirates flights) all within 2.5 hours travelling distance.

Rambo won't be driving down from Glasgow in his own car. I doubt very much he can afford one.

He will most likely 'Borrow' one. :hairout
