As the recession gets worse

Recommended Posts

I cant help thinking that this isnt a good time to be blowing a few grand on shagging trip. More and more shops, bars and restaurants are closing in the uk and the government are telling local councils to open them as libraries or community centres so that city centres dont look like ghost towns. Sounds like they expect most shops to close. And the government is printing money and propping up companies with billions every other day. There will be more and more competition for every job and minorities are getting more help and preference. Seems mad to go to Asia for 6 - 8 weeks. Anyone else thinking of delaying trips?

Well, I'm already retired and have no real desire to go back to work, so in that regard, I can't see a problem. Whether I'm in the USA or Thailand, I'll be spending money.

The only thing that makes me think twice is the stability of the currencies. Right now, the US dollar is doing OK. I suppose I could even handle 25 baht to the dollar if it were to go that low.

On the other hand, there's enough financial fear mongering going on to make a person wonder. What if the world financial system collapses? What if the dollar becomes almost worthless? What if there's hyperinflation? Would I really want to be stuck halfway around the world with screwed up finances?

Anyway, I'm hoping we'll all somehow muddle through this recession/depression. I can think of more fun things to worry about than exchange rates and the world economy.

Nice one ric.

Even though i prefer Pattaya to be quiet,as i live here,my thoughts go out to most bar/restaraunt owners who need as many tourists to come and spend money. Most of us expats dont spend loads in gogo bars/walking st etc,but we do contribute by buying houses/condos/cars/bikes etc.We actualy go out for meals too lol.

I've just booked my next trip for Aug/Sept.

Last year was 3 trips, this year only 1 planned.

My Thai domestic fares are with Air Asia. They owed me US$220 credit from a flight they cancelled on me last year. That has given me 5 flights. BKK to Chiang Mai return, BKK to Phnom Penh return and Bkk down to Phuket. Just lucky they had cheap fares available.

Only 1 trip but i'll make damned sure its a good one.

I feel for the guys whose jobs are shakey at the moment.

Heres hoping things improve for us all!

Exchange rate included!

I did actually consider postponing. However.... I could drop dead or get hit by a bus and then would I think: Thank goodness I postponed that vacation, now that I'm dead my relatives will get a few thousand more dollars...

I just called work and business is "slightly" better than a few months ago. remember, the so called experts are allways behind the mark. IMHO, we are at or near bottom. It will be a long road back to prosperity, but, I think there is light at the end of the tunnel. At least I hope so :beer

Fuck it. Buy a plane ticket, a new suitcase and small rip off travel size deoderant..help the economy :D

Food riots? At that point a loaf of white bread would cost you 500 gbp and life as you know it would be over. IF you really think it's going to get that bad then spend 500 gbp on some show girls and soapies before you have to piss it away on white bread.

Don't worry, be happy. Oh, and spend more time in Cambodia as it's much cheaper than Thailand and this way you can stay longer :allright

Has already happened in several countries. Greece being the only one I can remember off the top of my head.

There is or was a world food shortage. Not read much about it recently. It will go to the rich countries first

Has anyone seen a good discussion board on Cambodia? It might be fun to spend some time over there.

I have already booked my next trip for Jan 2010, but unfortunately I will not be spending any time in Pattaya as I will be attending my TGFs uni graduation when she gets presented with her degree.

We plan to holiday in Kho Chang before I return back home.

The actual presentation takes only 0.05 seconds, but the military precision it is done with is a wonder to behold!.

Theres a no flame section that is best for noobs to post in. They take a while to accept strangers and they hate anyone from Pattaya

Thanks for the link. I poked around on the site the other day. Interesting. Mostly, I came away with the impression that Cambodia wouldn't necessarily be any cheaper than Thailand and can be somewhat more of a pain in the ass. The one positive was the ease of getting the business visa.

I know what you mean. Hotels and apartments are about the same or cheaper in Patts and the food can be cheaper. But the drinks and P4P are much cheaper in Cambo.

Not sure I understand your question, I think there are many BMs that have TGFs.

If your asking why I have a TGF and am coming to Pattaya before I visit with her, the answer is that I don't have any commitment to her yet and plan to exhaust all my urges before I see her.

We are still in the early stages of our relationship as we have only known each other for 12 months and the L word has not yet been mentioned, as I prefer to take things slowly this time.

She is very well educated, from a good family and runs her own business, and is not interested in any money from me, in fact I think she is richer than me lol.
