Hi

Agree with TE you left it far to late, if you had tried five to six weeks ago, as my mate did, you could have got a flight from LHR to BKK for approx 500GBPs. The early bird catches the worm.

The Cheapest seems to be Emirates, just under £1K, this is a one stop in Dubai but if you are not located near Heathrow you may find it more convenient to depart from, Gatwick, Birmingham, Manchester, Newcastle or Glasgow most are a little cheaper and you can allow less time to check in and quicker out on your return.

Andy,

I just think that it would have been useful for some members to know if there were Xmas flights on offer for 500 quid six weeks ago. Or, indeed, six months ago. If there was a post then, unfortunately, I missed it.

I don't think Xmas prices go up to 3 x the normal level. The current price is the normal level, the market defined level. If someone asked me what the average or "normal" price was over the year I'd say around £600 with some bargains in the £400s and some in the £750 range but over Xmas, booked late, £750 has always been cheap and a grand for a ticket is not out of the ordinary.

Now the Eva flights I saw for Bt30,500 were available and similar, though slightly higher prices originating in the UK. That was travelling anytime and I looked specifically at 30/11 and the week of 26-23/12 and they were available for that price. The next price jump was to over 55,000. Those were checked in September. The best usual price was Bt32,000 so about £570 and up.

What I did not realise until this morning was BA's cabin crew had been voting on industrial action, presume this was no secret to many in the industry, as was the likely outcome as they have voted 9-1 in favour of strike action from next Tuesday for 9 days.

Lookout for many unhappy BA customers, oversubscribed flights and many passengers getting bumped...

More about this at British Airways go on strike

On the news, they are showing prices before and after strike ballot results. All prices to everywhere jumped massively.

Thanks BA crews and unions

Supply and demand, seats get scarce anyhow over Christmas and new year.

Looks like the strike has been averted so BA might have some seats! :beer

  • 2 weeks later...

They say book early for the cheapest fares, but I can only go from Humberside- Ams-Bkk, as I live in the sticks on the Lincolnshire coast, would take me ages to get to London or Manchester, and they are quoting £750 ish in October. Seems very expensive to me. Have checked all the usual sites - Kayak, Opodo, Expedia, etc. Is there anything I can do? Perhaps later in the year the price will come down?

October 2010 is 750 ??

Surely you can get to Manchester ?? Its 5 hours minimum for me to get to Heathrow or Gatwick EVERY TRIP.

Etihad from London is 435 pounds and similar from Manchester.

I looked at Humberside one year when thinking about a quick return to the UK to renew a visa, thinking that it would be far easier to get to Hull from Humberside airport than Heathrow. It was stupid money for the trip to Amsterdam, really stupid money. Then, adding in the cost of actually getting to Hull and back (remember time was important) I figured out it was easier and cheaper to fly into Manchester or London, take the train and taxi it from the train centre.

Back on topic, Humberside is expensive and has very limited flights. The answer is to go to Manchester. If you can't be bothered to travel, pay whatever it costs from Humberside and don't complain about it.
