Manny the Man

Recommended Posts

Went to a casino that was showing the fight for free last night. The place was packed. There was Manny looking at a 17 pound 5 in height and 6 in reach disadvantage. He then proceeded to beat that crap out of Margarito. His blinding speed and flurry of combonations was insurmountable. It was basically over by the 4th round. But Magarito kept coming back so Manny kept pounding on him.

The thing that amazes me is not only how fast Manny is and how he punches equally with both hands, but just how hard he hits. At the end of the first round you could see Margaritos face was red and starting to swell.

They should have stopped the fight by the 10th and Manny kept asking the ref to look at Magaritos eye. But they let it go on. All and all it shows that Manny is going to go down as one of the best of the era.

Now if Mayweather will just stop making excuses we can have a great fight.

Mayweather will never get in with Manny. He'll keep yelling he's the best but he's living in an echo chamber. Fighters fight, wankers wank.

Manny's too gracious to say what he should say, "You're a chickenshit, Floyd."

Manny is awesome. You can see him analyzing his opponent for the first round or so. Then he moves in and dismantles, taking all the time in the world. A credit to the sweet sport.

Now that's what I call a real fight, unlike that awful fight I watched on Saturday between Haye and that gutless, excuse for a pugilist Audley Harrison. Pride of Britain? More like the shame of Britain......

Just wish Manny wasn't such a nice guy. It was obvious he coulda' destroyed the cheater in the 12th but instead, compassionate, he cruised to the W. Margarito has no buisness in the ring. He is the lowest of life forms and Texas continues to be the butt-end of all jokes for licensing him.

Mayweather? Manny no longer needs him. Floyd can rant, rave and talk all the shit he wants but he will retire #2 if he don't climb in the ring with Pacman. That's not all bad, like Margarito, Mayweather's spare time should be spent behind bars.

I applaud him for taking it easy. Margarito's corner, the referee, or the Texas State Athletic Commission should have stopped it around the 10th round. It was a serious beating and there was no way Margs was going to come back. Margarito has a fractured orbital bone for his troubles.

As amazing as his hand speed is, Manny's foot work is incredible. The way he's able to dart in and out so quickly while still remaining in an offensive position is remarkable.

Then you're also overly compassionate. The shit Margarito did to Cintron, Cotto and who knows how many others, deserves a beat-down of epic proportions. He got his ass handed to him last nite, but nothing compared to what he did to the aforementioned. This wasn't a little cheating...like using a corked bat, this was an attempt to inflict perhaps longterm harm on a fellow boxer. he sux and I'd be happy if he gets knifed in TJ.

The Cintron example is horrible. Margarito won both of those fights by knockout under six rounds. How does that compared to a 12-round fight where 11 of the rounds weren't competitive?

The Cotto fight should have been stopped early.

I agree that his attempt at cheating was horrible, but we only know that he got caught once. If he cheated in prior fights then some of the blame should be heaped on his opponents' corners (they get to see the wrapping process and should protect their fighters) and the respective state athletic commissions (they should be protecting both fighters).

Regardless, the fight should have stopped early by his corner, the referee, or the Texas State Athletic Commission. His past cheating should have nothing to do with their decisions.

Agreed. Manny showed true championship character in the fight and I take my hat off to him.

I would have gone for that eye until the cheating fucker wouldnt be able to see again for another year.

Well, Margs has a fractured eye socket and is having surgery on Tuesday. Who knows when he'll be right again, if ever.

That was one helluva fight to watch.

Margarito was getting his ass kicked but he answered the bell and kept throwing punches and in the end both fighters earned the respect of the crowd.

That's the way it should be...if a guy wont put his ass on the line every time he gets in the ring then join the WWF, which is why boxing has become a joke over the past 20 years.

That's not even near the top of the list of why boxing's popularity has declined in the American market. Corrupt promoters, corrupt sanctioning bodies, the majority of fights being on premium cable/PPV, etc. have way more to do with it.

The PPV numbers indicate something different. Somebody is paying to watch. And the top boxers are among the highest-paid guys in sports.

Pacquiao got approx. $55,000 a second (yes, per second) for barely breaking a sweat against Fatton.

He'll be alright although it will always remain an easy target for his upcoming opponents.

Yes but basically only the very, very top guys, and PPV is more than $50 per house. People pay a lot to watch jiu-jitsu at the Asian Games, too, but not for the other three years and 51 weeks.

Plus, notice almost none of them is American these days - kids are not encouraged to go into boxing, and don't hanker to go into it. Club fighting and the like is basically dead.

I don't mean it's going to die tomorrow, but the continuing sport of boxing is pretty much dead in the US, and all you get are the occasional spikes - and OFTEN or even usually involving two foreigners.

That's complete BS. There are currently two boxers that can break a million in PPV sales. I don't see how these numbers indicate anything.
