IMHO, since the increase in UK airport tax on November 1st, anything below £500 is a very good price.

I am having a 'Free' rewards flight with Eva in Elite class, the 'Free' flight has taxes of £259.

:D

I guess £499 would have to be considered o.k. value these days, flight prices now back to the levels when I first started going to Patts 15 or so years ago.Trouble is the poor exchange rate for the pound means accommodation and all other costs make for an expensive trip-I gave it a miss in 2010 and may do the same in 2011.

:devil

God knows what the prices will be by then, only a year or so ago was getting around £430 mark, never see that again.

Not quite the same, but just booked Etihad for £448.00 direct on their website. Same flights were on Netflights.com, but I could not complete the booking due to some hitch on their website.

Depart 14th March, LHR 20.40 - 07.40 AUH - 09.15-18.15 BKK

Return 1st April, BKK 08.35 - 12.05 AUH - 13.30 -18.15 LHR

First time on Etihad for myself hope they are okay, seem to get good write up's.

Been with Emirates for some years now and am Gold with them, but starting to price themselves out of the running now, also some negative changes to their frequent flyer program last year. Probably my last flight with them at the end of January, although I will miss the A380.

Anybody know if Etihad does status matching for their frequent flyer program, is it worth asking. I normally do 5 plus return trips a year.

Best Regards

Fireman Sam

You were told right about Eithad they are a good airline although I have seen some recent complaints about food etc and seating arrangement on their 777's i.e 10 accross. I booked last night from manchester to bkk in May return no long stop overs £502.10 and no credit card charge either. I am not sure about the status exchange but heres the number if you like to call, 08007319834

I was really talking about ex Manchester, always going to be decent prices from LHR because of the competition.

Having said that, Emirates have got flights ex Man for £510 at the moment, not too bad in the circumstances.

Their 777s are 9 (3-3-3) across in Coral (Economy) Class.

Etihad 777-300ER Seat Map

I dont pay much attention to the seating arrangement other than the comfort of the seat I am in so I cant remember if its 9 or 10 from Manchester. However I can assure you I did read and Eithad do use 10 accross on the 777. This extract is self explanatory.

For those who prefer being squashed together, here are some reassuring comments from Etihad's James Hogan who spoke to 'Business Traveller Asia Pacific' ('BT', June 2010, page 11):

'We obviously get a better return on the two-class B777s with 10-abreast - we use them predominantly on routes over SouthEast Asia and out of Canada, on which there is huge demand...Our Economy seat is comfortable and lightweight with a nice recline and 600 hours of inflight entertainment (IFE). We've also just introduced our Inspired Service to Economy. We've restructured to ensure people are getting served within an acceptable period. So to me it's a win-win.'

How thrilling that he thinks it's a 'win-win.'

Having experienced the cramped conditions of Emirates' 10-across between Singapore and Melbourne (though not Etihad's, as I have not flown the latter), this is a 'lose-lose' for the traveller who pays similarly to what he or she would in a competitor airline that has nine-across in Economy class.

Talk about 'cattle class.'

My apologies - and thanks for the heads up to the change. They'll join Emirates in my list of airlines to avoid.
