Best actors, directors and pictures for 2010

Recommended Posts

I just watched a movie - The Town - starring Ben Affleck.

He was very good. What I did not realize until the end was that he directed it. I think he did an excellent job and perhaps worthy of an Academy Award nomination for best director.

Another excellent performance as a supporting actor was handed in by Jeremy Renner (of The Hurt Locker fame).

I recommend the movie. - 3 out of 4 stars. The movie will hold your interest, it has a good script and cast of characters.

What are your Oscar nominee picks for 2010?

an aside for MM - Renner is from Northern California - Modesto to be precise!

The Social Network was the best movie I saw in 2010. I had no desire to see it, but came across an Oscar screener. I was floored by the writing, directing, and music. I'm not certain any of the performances were strong enough to warrant an award, but they're pushing hard for Jesse Eisenberg for best actor and Justin Timberlake for best supporting actor. The first is a decent pick, but the second is a Hollywood fabrication. Timberlake's performance was fun, but overrated.

I'm not sure how the movie will fare. Trent Reznor probably has the best shot for music, followed by Sorkin's writing and Fincher's direction. I think the modern topic works against it, which is completely unfair.

I'm still trying to get through the 2008 award winners.

I've had no time to see any of the new films, but will gladly use this thread as my downloading guide when I do.

Just watching the new series of V

The aliens come to earth and preach peace, many people are won over, but the V are crafty and scheming, they want to control the world and change our ways.

Everything we had learned was wrong and had to be the V way !

Some people did not believe the V :hairout

but the V needed a little more time to bring reinforcements so they took on a reporter/new reader

this news reader could hear /see no evil about the V until it was too late

i think Mr Pastry played this part and based it on his experiences with the Muslim community in London

:allright :thumbup :grin-jump :grin-jump

I saw a piece recently that described 2010 as the worst year for movies, ever.

.

Even so, there are always good performances and good directing.

I agree MCLDOP The Social network was probably my pick for Movie of the year

also agree with the Op The Town is excellent (affleck efforts as a director are quite good Gone baby gone is also very good)

from that List midlifecrisi provided A prophet (which i think won an Academy Award last year) and Girl with the dragon tatoo are both top foreign movies and if anyone hasnt seen the aussie flick Amimal kingdom its well worth a watch.

most of the golden globe noms are from movies not yet released The Fighter, Kings Speech, 127 Hours and black swan ( released on boxing day)

From what ive seen

Movie Social network or The Ghost Writer

Actor Leo (Shutter Island) (though the mail is Colin Firth is home )

Best Supporting Actor Ben meddilson (Animal Kingdom)

Actress The Bird from Girl with a dragon tatoo (unless merryl streep was in some chick flick i didnt watch) although most proabaly itll be natalie Portman for black swan which i watched about 20 minutes of.

I do not get out to the movies much anymore. Tend to wait for the DVD.

I recently watched Inception. Outstanding, but ya gotta pay attention.

Also watched (most of) Despicable Me with my daughter and a few of her girlfriends. They absolutely loved it. I have to admit it had its moments.

Loved "Inception". It's the only "Oscar-buzzed" movie I've seen so far.

The Black Swan, The Fighter, Social Network, The King's Speech and True Grit seem to be favorites for nominations. Looks like Portman and Firth are the favorites for best acting honors. I haven't seen any of them - waiting for decent DVD copies to emerge.

Edited to add: Another movie getting plenty of Oscar buzz is "The Kids are Alright". Annette Bening might finally get an Oscar.
