Room Cleaning

Some hotels I've stayed in made a real effort to clean the room when I'm out of it. Others have maids that could seemingly care less. They clean the room when they're good and ready. So, the question is this: should I feel obligated to vacate the room whenever the maid feels like cleaning it, or should I just tell her politely to buzz off if I happen to be in the room when she wants to clean it?

Most places have a sign you can hang on the door, one side say’s “Do Not Disturb” the other “Make Up Room Please” Or something similar. In English and Thai sometimes with a little drawing on as well.

 

Have you tried using it? I have they work brilliantly

I spent a long time in hotels before I rented a house. Typically I woke up late, after the time that they would get to my room. I spoke with the maids, and they told me that they never knew if I was in the room doing boom boom or not, so if they didn't see me leave, they skipped my room. They showed me the do not disturb thing for the door, on the back of it was "Please clean room." They suggested hanging it outside the door when I left, in case they didn't see me leave. My problem was solved.

There are a many hotels and guest houses in Pattaya, as there are bars. Maybe it's time for a change.

Yes I agree with the other poster. Get a new place. They are taking you for granted.

doesnt make much sense if that they dont know if your in the room or not , i always leave my keys at reception so they only have to check with reception.

 

I have found at Sabai lodge they are first class if i get up at 9.00am, 10.00am , Lunchtime or 2 pm , my room is cleaned by the time I have returned from breakfast.

Secrets hotel is pretty good about cleaning the room. Go to breakfast at 8AM and your room is clean when you return. That must be one of their priorities. Making some effort to clean the room when the guest is out. A nice touch.

 

Sabai Lodge? They always seemed to be on a schedule. Same time every day, for the room cleaning.

 

I think next time I'm in town I'll just rent a condo for a month or two and not have to worry about it. Once in a while, I can pay for maid service.

Well, it looks that way. I've always just stayed in hotels and guest houses, so I've never tried to rent one for a month or two, but I'm sure guys do it.

Varies from hotel to hotel, most i find clean the room about midday-ish depending of course if i have hung the sign on the door knob. If i am in the room and they want to clean i just ask for fresh towels and water etc and tell them to clean later.

 

I fucking hate it when they clean the room when i'm in their , makes me feel like a spare prick at a wedding .

We either ask the customer to pop into reception on their way out and let us know we can clean it or wait until we see the guest maybe at breakfast etc, if that fails the room maid will knock the door mid afternoon ish.

That's good if it works that way. In this case, they see me walk out the door in the morning. I may be gone for a few hours - certainly enough time to clean a room. But the maid is sitting around doing nothing, from what I can tell. Anyway, by the middle of the afternoon I'm probably taking a nap and I'm not about to vacate the room so it can be cleaned. Oh well.

 

My new philosophy is that I don't care if they clean the room or not. I'm the one on vacation. I'll do what I want when I want. If that means a dirty room, so be it.

Room doesn't bother me to much , as long as i have clean towels etc i am happy. Most barfines will do a spot of house work anyhow

Remember that cleaners will have set working hours. If you're still in the loom when they go home that's that really.

I make a point of never leaving anything about that would tempt them.

In most of the smaller hotels and guesthouses where I stay, the cleaners will soon learn your individual habits and clean the room accordingly - for example I seldom leave my room before noon and they know this. In a Bangkok hotel recently the gf and I didn't stir until almost 3:00 in the afternoon and the front desk actually called and asked if I wanted the room cleaned or not.

Much of this is way to complicated.

 

Just give the maid a decent tip and she will figure out when you are in or not.

 

My problem with the In/Out sign concept is that I often leave early and want my room cleaned early. A Do-Not_Disturb sign of any form does not accomplish this.

 

Yes, I know that in small place I could go to the desk and get it planned, but I prefer my solution.

I never have a problem anymore... this is what I've evolved to do:

 

- Leave ~40-50 baht everyday on the bed.

- Have the 'do not disturb' sign up all the time I am in the room, period.

- Take the 'do not disturb' sign down when I go to breakfast, no matter what time it is.

- On my way to breakfast, I walk the floor and find the maid. I smile and tell her she can clean when ready (they are easy to find, because the cart is outside the room where they are working).

- If I'm in the room when she gets there, I leave. She doesn't take all that long.

 

PS - I also request 4 towels and 2 shower caps on the first day, and that happens without fail after also.
