I am lucky. Unlike the majority of the members on this board, i have still all of my own teeth. To see a good dentist every six month for a check-up and a clean and scale should be a priority. I have met quite a few bar girls with bead breath, thanks to their rotting teeth. Bar owners should insist that the girls should have a mammography, a dental check-up and visit a gynecologist at least once a year.
Could you recommend a Pattaya dentist who will perform 6 month check-up/scrapes? My UK one retired and I really should get back to regular treatment. (Most in Pattaya seem to be into cosmetic stuff only). I tried to get an appointment at some Pattaya Klang recommended place but waiting list was long. Edited by jacko

Dr. Napaporn Ponpaha in the little Soi between Pattaya Klang and Soi 8 , near Pattaya Beach Road and on the other side of Tops supermarket, has done a marvelous job looking after our teeth for many years. She does not work full time, since she had a baby. Ring 038 429357 to make an appointment. Your teeth are more important than your full head of hair. :chogdee

Geez, just about every Dentist in Pattaya will see you almost immediately.

Are you intending to annoy someone on this trip and likely to require dental surgery before returning home? If so can I watch please (not the surgery bit)

Glyn.

Quite, but most of them are seeking the tourist requiring expensive cosmetic dentistry, and are fresh out of college.

I am looking for a 'regular' dentist who has a decade's experince and won't mind working in my mouth for a few hundred baht without trying to sell me veneers, laser whitening or other stuff.

A lot of friends and acquaintances use Dr. Aree, at Pattaya International.

She's the best I've ever found at giving the dreaded Novocaine shot, works on you barefoot, and sings softly in your ear as she's concentrating on scaling your teeth.

Lovely lady, and good work.

I have to admit, I never checked her prices vs the clinics. I thought so. I had a crown done there, and it was about the same as a clinic, as I recall.

You can call for a schedule of prices 038428374. That's the main switchboard of the hospital, so ask to be transferred to Dental or her office.

If you do try her, let us know if her prices are reasonable.

BTW, I did a little moving and merging from the "Dilemma" topic, and the forum software makes it look like jacko (with the earliest post) was the topic starter.

I just thought a local dentist discussion was better alone than being buried under some NHS dental stuff in that other topic.

Apologies to jacko and DJMiami for making things a bit more confusing.

If I am remembering correctly what I read on one of the boards (I think this one) a while back, Dr Aree's predecessor left PIH to have a baby. She is now back working, but not at PIH.

She works partly in BKK and partly from a clinic located between the Tiffany show and the Dolphin Roundabout on Second Road (240/21-22 M. 5 Pattaya 2nd Road). http://www.dentaldepattaya.com/dentalteam.htm Allegedly, her prices have fallen as a result of not being at PIH.

Her name is Dr Darika Taw-Anont, tel. 038 415 512. I saw her a couple of times a few months back. She is very likeable and speaks good English. Her work seemed good, but it was only a filling I had.

Dr Aree's predecessor must have preceded her 6 or 7 years ago then, because I've been going to Dr. Aree at PIH for over 6 years now. In any event, I don't know anything about Dr. Darika myself.

Dr Darika worked more recently than 6 years ago at PIH. Please see the link in my previous post which gives her c.v.

I think there must be more than one dentist at PIH.

I recall recommending Dr Aree and posting her pic in one of my first posts on this forum back in 2002 - bad mistake on my part. It wasn't long before walk-in consultations were but a distant memory and I ended up having to plan my holiday around my dental appointments rather than vice versa.

As an aside, I'm lucky to live in a city that's home to one of the main Thai dental teaching hospitals, so dental treatment in town is around 50% of what I was eventually being charged at PIH (in 2007).

Of course there is more than one dentist at PIH.

Dr. Danika worked there during the time Dr. Aree has been there. I was commenting on your use of the word "predecessor" (see CheshireTom's post).

Dr Aree's has the best reputation in Pattaya. She is the dentists of all my expat friends, that use a dentist. She is not cheap though. You can find many places that charge less than 1/2 what she charges. A good friend who's girlfriend was having problems with some new, less expensive dental work. Took the GF to Dr Aree, who did an exam, and said "taxi driver on Monday, dentist of Friday" then re did all of the previous work, to the GF's satisfaction. She is also in demand. With most dentists in Pattaya, you can walk right in and have work done. With Dr Aree you will have to make an appointment a week in advance.

I have used Dr. Aree many times and always received excellent service. I needed a crown a couple of years ago and I had several Pattaya expat friends who had good experiences with the German Dental Clinic on Thappraya going up the hill to Jomtien. I went there for the crown, received excellent service, and I've been going back since for regular cleaning since it's located much closer to my condo than Pattaya International. IMO you can't go wrong with Dr. Aree or German Dental but they aren't the cheapest in Pattaya.

How would you rate the Dentist in Thailand?

Both for cosmetic surgery and basic issues.

What scale you using? Florida State puts out a class A dentist for the most part.

Thai's so far (only two) have been b-

I did a sleep bite plate at the 3rd rd about four minutes walk north of South street on the east side of the street.

Had the teeth cleaned in Jomtien on the left side about two hundred feet before the beach road.

Had the teeth cleaned at a place in the big new mall just south of 9th street.

I'd go back to all but the new mall, He wanted to up sell you, did the job but who needs a sales pitch at that point in your holiday?

I think predecessor was the wrong word. Maybe co-worker would have been better since she did not precede Dr. Aree. English is a tough language for some people.
