Hey guys

I was just wondering as I was in Pattaya early February I noticed way to many Russians in town. Now I am not trying to piss people off, but after booking my flight I found it hard to book a decent hotel for my stay and even when I arrived I noticed the bars quiet and the ladies not too happy with how slow business was. :D

So my question is, is this how things are going to be or was it just that time of year for all the Russians to go on holidays? :crying:

My guess (and hope) is that they will stop coming as the weather improves in the former USSR.

They take up way too much space, stand on the streets listening to live music with their 7-11 drinks, stop to watch anyone who is doing a "show" of any sort, block the roads, fill the songthaews, crowd the 7-11's....not a lot positive to say about them.

They have been a Godsend for some of the big old hotels that previously were empty...

I guess they have the package trips...

Drove past the Ambassador last night, which is way out at NaJomtiem, no way would anybody want to be stuck way out there. They create a road block even there on Sukhumvit, crossing the road and a long line of double parked baht busses loading up to take them into town.

In past years their numbers have suddenly dropped as we go into low season, but there are so many about I wonder if that will be the case.

I feel sorry for them being stuck out in the middle of nowhere at Ambassador City. From what I have seen, many of the big, old, hotels have been full up with package Russian tourists.

Yesterday, I was driving towards Jomtien on Thappraya, and noticed many groups of Russians standing along the side of the road waving at baht busses. What they saved on accommodation cost, they probably lost on transportation costs.

Still, it would be nice if they'd get off the streets and into some of the bars and restaurants rather than blocking traffic.

Be careful what you wish for!

They've started getting into the bars - What's Up and Angelwitch in particular. I was in Angelwitch a few nights ago and a bunch of them was sat in the row behind. First of all, I thought they were pissed up Geordies and then I realised I couldn't understand 100% of what they said, not 80%

On Walking Street, I've started my personal campaign to get pedestrians moving: I now deliberately make a point of walking straight through the empty ring that encircles the street performers.

I don't have a problem with the Russians. First off, I live here, and a blond haired, blue eyed girl without a bra looks very exotic to me.

Second, the Pattaya mayor wants to make this a family town. The Russians ignore P4P, they don't call the mayor about all the girls on Beach Road, don't write the newspapers complaining. Just imaging if there were an equal number of American, Canadian, British, or Australian families, or women on the streets. They would kill Pattaya in a heart beat. The complaints to the Mayor and police would be never ending. Hell, the fat ugly American bitches would be in the bars explaining to the girls that they don't have to sell pussy. That it's easier to withhold pussy and get married, then divorce for 50% of all assets. They would probably introduce them to cheeseburgers and fries, covered in salt to get the Thai girls as fat as them.

I also don't see a problem with Russians. They surely don't seem to bother anyone, and some of the Russian girls look good, especially in bikinis. Of course, most probably only speak Russian. One time, though, I did hear two Russian girls speaking English in a baht bus. They were telling someone they were from Moscow.

Some good points, lovedog.

I just wish they'd keep moving when they see somebody doing some silly show in the street.

I've found that you can make them disperse by passing a hat around for tips.

Unfortunately that’s already happened thanks to that fuckin’ clown and his company

Just talking to a Freelancer i know on Voipstunt. She's a nice looking girl, but not stunning. She was telling me she's getting 1500 for ST, and 2500 for LT from Russians, so this bit about them not spending much maybe doesn't apply to all of them.

She also told me that most have went now, mostly Alab and Indian man now :thumbup

Used to be they were only down the far end of Wanking Street. Last couple of trips I noticed them further afield, up in 7 and 8.

So far they don't seem to know about 6.

I walked up to Big C south the other day & was surprised to see about 15 tour buses discharging dozens of Russian tourists in the area just before you reached Big C.

They were being herded like sheep by the bus drivers who were obviously getting a commission for the number of customers they were bringing through the doors.

It was a place called Vitawax but how they could cope with hundreds of people at the same time I don't know.

There was one couple who made a break for it despite the whistle blowing & pointing from the bus drivers.

Unfortunately they settled on a little table/chair setup & patiently waited on a waitress to serve them.

I should/could have mentioned to them they were sitting in an open air furniture shop !

cheers rogero :cry4: :beer :beer

The Russian image..couples and families is a nicer sight than the Western singles...in the Thai view. No guesses what Pattaya will be in a few years.

Only a matter of time

I don't really see what's the big deal about Pattaya as a vacation spot for families. There are much nicer places in the world, better beaches elsewhere. Pattaya is for sex, and should stay that way.

I doubt that many Russian tourists ever return to Pattaya, the beach leaves a lot to be desired, they don't seem interested in the girls and they can go shopping anywhere in the world. It's a ten hour flight from Moscow to BKK. Russians are comparatively newcomers to the travel game and will probably try different destinations every year much like the British holiday makers did when cheap package tours became available in the 1960s and 70s.

Well it is a little bit less than that, more like 9 hours. I agree with your comaparison, it is like what Costa Del Sol was to British and German holidaymakers in the mid-70s. There is obviously a well organised marketing and package tour organisation in Russia for Bangkok.

Thailand, and a few neighbours, are visa free for Russians too, that will help.

They aren't only in Pattaya, I came across a lot flying out of Bangkok on Air Asia, off to Malaysia.

They don't all live in Moscow. The attraction of Pattaya for them is price first.
