September 29th 2009 - Breaking News - Pattaya

At around 20:30 hrs Colonel Puratin Rhatusacha and his team of officers were called out to investigate a disturbance at Crazy Dave' Bar and Restaurant in Soi Chayapoon, South Pattaya.

But this time it was not the customers that were causing trouble but Crazy Dave and his wife Linda. Apparently the couple had been arguing during which Mr Dave called his wife Linda, a scrawny, ugly old slag.

Linda, responded by smashing a dish full of Shepherd's Pie over Dave's head, causing a gash to his forehead and covering him with warm Shepherd's pie.. Mr Dave, then picked himself up from the floor in front of shocked customers, kicked his wife full in her Vagina, then slung her Parrot underneath a passing baht bus.

There were a number of customers in the bar at the time, eating famous Crazy Dave's budget food and enjoying cheap beer. One customer reported that Dave had been getting progressively drunk since the afternoon, after sacking one of his waitress staff for filling up a Tomato Ketchup bottle with Salad Cream. He became very abusive toward her and reduced the girl to tears. Crazy Linda was outraged to find out that the girl had been sacked when she turned up later, and so the fight began.

A regular customer added that "this was the best entertainment they had seen in ages, and much better than the endless repeats shown of Only Fools and Horses at the bar".

Unfortunately, Linda's Parrot (named Max) was killed instantly under the weight of the taxi wheels, and both Crazy Dave and Linda were taken to the Police station charged with causing an affray. Both were later released after a heavy fines was imposed and Mr.Dave agreed to serve members of the Pattaya Police with free beer in future.

Later both of them attended Pattaya Memorial hospital where Dave received treatment of 8 stitches to his forehead. His wife Linda was examined and found to have an extremely bruised cunt, but no serious injuries.

Crazy Dave also promised to buy Linda a new Parrot and pay for a beauty make over at a local salon as a way of apologizing. Dave and Linda have been happily married for 8 years and said that this was only a minor set back in their relationship. Max was later given a full Buddhist funeral for what was left of him and will be remembered fondly.

Just kidding, but it could have been a good story clap2.gif

The DVDs are worn out and do not play properly anymore, keep stop starting, they are a waste of time now. used to be fun.

Not surprising really, they must have been played about 60, 000 times at least. yikes.gif he should get someone to bring him over some new box sets of Fools and Horses and Fawlty Towers. Linda's parrot should be able to recite them word for word by now

I have not eaten there, since my Shepherds pie arrived with Ice in the middle of it. They probably punched in 1 minute on the microwave instead of 5 minutes.

:yikes: I thought they were the worst I had ever eaten. The 7/11s do better toasties.

I don't usually eat in cheap western places as you only get what you pay for. Dave's is so cheap, it is obviously poorly sourced ingredients. The cheapest money can buy. Same as the 7/11 probably. That's only when I'm in the middle of nowhere and starving.

1/10.

This is not an attempt at an arguement. I would like to know what the difference is between a cheap egg and an expensive egg. I have eaten quite a few eggs in my life, I am not sure ( yes I am sure) that I ever knew I'd eaten a cheap egg. Please explain so that I will know in the future.

I dont know about the eggs (they are quite small) , but certainly the bacon and sausages are not good quality. and the beans are those Thai baked beans and the tomatoes are tinned. The fried bread is cooked in Tractor oil (just kidding) but lets say, if you compared the full English in Juice Restaurant with CDs you would notice the difference in quality. The Coffee, for instance is freshly brewed ground coffee where as in CD's its a cheap Instant powdered job. They serve freshly squeezed OJ, where as CDs don't. I am not saying that CD;s breakfasts are inedible and they are good value for what they are, but nevertheless he keeps his overheads down, and buys his ingredients cheaply. That is why he can knock out a breakfast for half the price of Juice and many other places.

Not only that, he has to compete with the prices of Canterbury Tales and seaside 2 on the same soi who also sell cheap breakfasts/food. Nothing wrong with these places, as such, its just up to the customer and their budget.

I have noticed that even Crazy Dave has upped his prices over the last couple of years though

75 baht.jpg

But that is still only around £1.45 in English money and you couldn't get a breakfast anywhere in UK for that price.

As far as drinks go, its very cheap and a bottle of beer is a bottle of beer where ever you drink it. Its fine if you just want to sit watching TV and drink cheap beer etc, but the surroundings and entertainment are not brilliant and nor are his waitresses.

You pay more in many other bars because of the girls and the entertainment factor. He keeps his staff to a minimum and him and his wife do quite a lot of the work, when they are not too pissed to stand up clap1.gif and the wages he pays are very low.

That said, you gotta hand it to Dave, he's been there for well over 10 years now, and is still going, where many other bars of that age are long gone. He has got quite a large British expat clientèle and also those who are on budget holidays, so he does OK in terms of volume.

He used to be a bit tasty with a sawn off shot gun, back in the day, and retired early to Marbella for a while, before settling in Pattaya but these days he looks a fucking wreck, rarely eats, thrashes hos liver to bits every day and only sleeps about 4 hours a day.

I popped in there last summer, while I was waiting for the laundry across the road to finish ironing my shirts. It was about 5 pm and Dave was well hammered already and shouting at the staff in his usual way. He is quite a nice fella, and can be quite amusing to watch, especially when him and his missus are at it.

There were a few older guys in there knocking back Samsong Cokes @ 30 baht a throw (from 3 to 8pm getting tanked up for the evening with probably a plate of Shepherd's pie about 6 ish

Fuck knows what the rooms are like, but probably not that good I would imagine.

Good God, Crazy Daves, I have to confess to eating there but it was only a handful of times at approx 4am. Totally pissed, not enjoyable, but fodder nonetheless.I recollect swilling it down with 35bht Singha, so that'll probably be the reason why!!

I'll say no more other than Dave will not be seeing my custom again but I will say though, the service was good.

Good luck to them, at least their business is still there, so they must be doing something right.

Not only that, but Dave is not computer literate and hates them. He occasionally gets others to advertise for him, but he never posts or promotes his business via these forums, that is for sure, unlike Dave at the Canterbury Tales who gets fictitious customers to plug his gaff grin.gif

We had breakfast there after going to a Thai disco all night about 3-4 months ago... was terrible. Much rather pay a bit more and get something better.

Price is NOT everything. True, its cheap... and its likely not going to make you sick, but it was just disgusting. Not a very good trade off for the saved money, IMHO.

There was a Food Poisoning incident a while back too, and they claimed that it was a conspiracy

http://www.pattayape...&IdArticle=5591

"Popular Bar Accused of Food Poisoning, What is the Motivation. Warin Lee Philips (Linda), Owner of Crazy Dave’s International Bar & Diner located in Soi Chaiyaphool, off Pattaya 3rd Road,

went to Pattaya Police Station at noon on 2nd May to make a report on libel and being threatened by a foreigner.

Mrs. Warin stated that on 19th April a European couple came into the bar for dinner in the evening and left at approximately 8.30 pm. Later at 1 am that night the husband returned to the bar claiming that his wife was in hospital due to food poisoning from the venue and demanded payment of 68,900 Baht as compensation.

Mrs. Warin refused paying such an amount for something that the venue wasn’t responsible for, because she can guarantee that all the food served is clean and fresh. She said, “The wife might have had something not fresh somewhere else because there is no way that the food at Crazy Dave’s could be poisoning”.

Later on the 28th April the same man returned and threatened that if Mrs. Warin refused to pay; he would expose Crazy Dave’s in a very bad way and ruin the venue’s reputation.

He then spread out flyers in English saying:

“Warning: Do not eat at Crazy Dave’s. My wife did and got food poisoning then was rushed to the hospital and stayed for 2 days, which cost 48,900 Baht. When I told him; he and his wife laughed at me.”

“The message spread out was accusing my venue to be serving bad quality food, which is not true, and it is defamation. This is why I am here to make a report and requesting the officers to proceed according to the law with the man who defamed my restaurant” Mrs. Warin stated.

The police recorded all statements and kept the example of the note as evidence and will search for the foreigner to invite him in for questioning at the station to find the truth of what had really happened.

Pattaya People Media Group staff has many times dined at Crazy Dave’s and have always found the food to be of a very high standard. One could speculate that competitor restaurants would have a benefit in stirring up trouble like this for Crazy Dave’s who is very successful selling food and beverages at extremely low prices ".

yikes.gifHad to laugh at that bit, they all eat for free there

It might have just been a scam by the farang couple, or she was sick due to some other meal, because Pattaya People reports:

Some British citizens take great delight at a fellow Brit's misfortune and will do all they can to add to that unfortunate's woes. Those same British citizens would move heaven and earth were it an Indian restaurant getting some flak.

It is a pity that some British citizens still do not recognise "irony" or have the ability to read and digest all that is placed in front of them.

There was a lot of balance in the posts about CDs. If you had noticed, I said that he has been there for well over 10 years and doing OK, where many other bars have perished.

maybe those who slag off the "New Plaza" for its cheapness and so called "low life customers" might see a likeness to some of their own posts.

In fact, Crazy Dave's is a sort of an Icon which represents some of the earlier days in Pattaya, before snobbery became vogue. yikes.gif Every one has heard of the place, everyone has past it, many have tried it and either like or dislike it.

Yogi, where is the misfortune, you are talking about ?? I would have thought that if anything, Crazy Dave is very fortunate in being able to sustain a bar and restaurant at the low end budget.

I am not a failed bar owner, but if I were, I would be the first to admit it and pass my experience onto others. 15 years ago, starting up a bar was a doddle, these days it can be a real liability. Crazy Dave has experience on his side, . and it is his only source of income, so if he is making a living, then good luck to him. I am not sure about the "Indian" reference, but there are plenty of well established Indian tailors scattered around Pattaya, but probably not doing quite as well as they used to.

He is a real character in Pattaya, and anyone who has experienced his craziness will know yikes.gif Buying and running a bar is hard enough but you cant buy a sense of humour wanker2.gif

I too have sampled Crazy Dave and Linda's culinary expertise many times in the past when CDs and Seaside were the only two eateries in Soi Chaiyapoon and I will continue to do so in the future. A fine, quality restaurant serving excellent food at unbeatable prices.

I wouldn't, I have had numerous ailments over the years from Indian restaurants.

Glad your not looking for an argument mate as I am tired of them and rarely post unless it's a fairly argument free subject!

Eggs.

Cheap eggs have a pale yellow yolk. Expensive eggs, a deep orange.

Cheap eggs - From battery chickens.

"Expensive" Eggs - Free range , farm sourced etc.

Eggs are also priced by size and sometimes by no hormone or antibiotics and with omega 3.

imho, these very cheap places source the cheapest ingredients and even buy stuff that's past it's sell by date. I'm not talking CDs,I am talking UK places I knew the owners , and maybe that is done worldwide. I personally try to buy better quality stuff. It's not an exact science in picking a place , but imho Robins ingredients would be far better quality than CDs.imho.

I am now and have for as long as I can remember been what is known,on this board. as a cheap charlie, but I have to say that I found CDs Quality so low as to be uneatable, the service was also poor, so I no longer use his place, even if his prices are low. There are many places that charge a lot more than CDs that are just as bad taste wise but there are also many that are much better than CDs but not much dearer.I can therefore eat reasonably well for a reasonable price in many places in Pattaya .One other thing is that Crazy Dave has not come by that moniker for being a calm and moderate person. On his day, or night, he can cause noise polution all up and down Soi Chiapoon all on his own,it gets even louder if one of his drunk Farang customers is involved, which also makes his eatery one to avoid.
