Hi,

Haven't seen you posting much recently. :gulp

As I said to a certain poster - Arguing on here, is a s pointless as Ann Frank owning a drum kit.

I'll stick to sport and stuff that might help others. The thought of some bloke sitting the other side of the world just waiting for a post, that may have an opinion in the slightest way different from his, waiting to start a playground argument, holds no appeal for me. :kissing

The Scottish must have some qualities which make them good football managers. Shankley, Stein,

I don't think it's a Scottish thing at all. I'm sure if some boring fucker was to dig out the statistics you'd be able to come up with a cluster of successful managers from the North East for example. Robson, Clough and Paisley are the obvious culprits. Funnily enough, those three are held in extremely high regard north of the border. Even my granny knew who Clough and Robson were. unsure.gif

I don't want to start a new thread, but I larfed at this, and thought this might be a tension breaker at least:

Life Imitates South Park

In a class presentation, Cartman delivers something that could be considered a hate speech, arguing that "Gingers" - people with red hair, freckles, and pale skin - are disgusting, inhuman, unable to survive in sunlight, and have no souls; all because of a condition called "Gingervitis". When Kyle points out that he too has red hair, Cartman says that there is a second class of redheads, the "daywalkers", who have red hair but not pale skin and freckles, and concludes that "If you think that the Ginger problem is not a serious one, think again!" while he clicks through a clip, and stops on a picture of Carrot Top.

- Wikipedia summary for "Ginger Kids", aired 9 Nov 2005

Sperm Bank Turns Down Redheads

- Daily Telegraph, 16 Sept

Why? The seven managers were all crap players in their day. Logically, that means the number of crap Scottish players now doing the rounds should ensure that we'll dominate coaching positions in the Premier League for the foreseeable future. thumbup.gif Always look on the bright side ...... whistling.gif

Daglish a crap player ???? Are u mad

Hi,

Ta. I've edited the post. My favourite is Clough because he was successful at two clubs who were not too fashionable.

There does seem to be a pattern with Managers to bring their fellow country men into their sides.

Plymouth had a fair amount of Scots, Arsenal under Terry Niel ??? had about 8 Irish players, and today's Arsenal with their French......

So in a way, the success of the Scots managers, does come as a surprise :whistling:

Did he not have a partner. Peter Taylor. And finish his career in failure? What was his success tally? I doubt it's a 6th of what Sir Alex has achieved and he done it with 2 clubs, and you don't get any less fashionable than Aberdeen.

And where in Scotland was Clouhgh from? :banghead

Hi,

CT and myself were talking about English managers in this case. AF proved himself at Aberdeen, great achievement no doubt.

Cloughs success compared to others? I am just surprised someone would have a favourite who had to leave the game unsuccesful and an alcoholic. No worries. I wouldn't expect you to have picked a winner lol. You think success is down to the entire English game being bent!!!

Acually I rate Clough very high in any scale of domestic managers. And in his way, and in his time alongside managers like Sir Alex .

Consecutive European Cups with Nottingham Forest......Is that still a record?

Two Clough 'things' to watch 'Dammed United' Great film!

And, oddly...The Parkinson Muhammed Ali interview. I doubt any of you quite remember his part in that............ You can watch it on youtube!

cloughs record is outstanding but if anyone took Nottingham Forest to one Championship league title today it would be ten times the achievement of what Clough did.

The gap between the haves and havenots is too immense.

Forests entire yealy wage budget for their squad is about the equivalent to someone who cant get a game at man City (wayne Bridges) yearly salary, Clough didnt have to overcome those sought of obstacles.

PS That Damm United is a great movie , however i think the leeds players from that era are still suing the author of the book

All excellent points....We can only wonder how far big headed self-confidence and inspiration would have taken Clough on a relative budget today. He did buy Trevor Francis....think he was the first Million pound man. But taking Derby from bottom to top...Surely the original 'special one'

Can't think why the Leeds players were upset by the film?

You have to check out the Parkinson/Ali thing..............Not just for Clough but to understand Ali's brainwashing. .....We should have paid more attention!

Hi,

Getting back on topic, I think Bill Shankley and Jock Stein must be the top Scottish managers. Shankley turned Liverpool from a small club into the most successful in England and Europe. Stein won a European Cup with a team of locals and against Inter who, then as now, are a very rich club. When will a Scottish club win the now Champions League ? Never is my guess.

A fantastic record.....He just about proves my point on his own.

I don't put his success down to bent refs...............I put his long successful career at the top, down to a Scotsman's ability to consume vast amounts of alcohol without effect....unlike the poor but otherwise gifted Clough.

Hi,

Seeing double mate. Too much alcohol ? :gulp Some people like Clough and Amy Winehouse should pack it in as soon as they realize they can't handle it. Lots of people do that, no shame in it.

Your trying to wind me up lol! How many teams were in the European Cup when Stein won it? Was it 16? Main clubs didn't even enter it as it was a nothing cup back then. And he got through a game that was decided with a coin toss. That's how old fashioned and out of date that is. But your hatred of Ferguson and Man U is shining through. As is your inability to tell a good team / manager. Although Man U were famous and a glamour club, Ferguson has made them the record breaking winning team they are. Ask any manager from Allerdyce to Redknapp or even Wenger who has fallen by the way lol.

Elementary lesson for WackJobMedia - Check the stats and compare them to other managers. It ain't rocket science! :chogdee

Bent referees lol

Hi,

I thought those two, Celtic and Liverpool, would hit the spot. :clap1

Celtic and Liverpool - Remember Dalglish and Barnes managing Celtic? Called the dream team! They ended up getting laughed out of Glasgow, they were so inept lol. Rangers fans had banners saying "the dream team must stay" :D

Thought you were a b it harsh on Souness, mate. Was it 4 titles in Scotland, and some cups or a title in Turkey? Maybe managed top teams in 3 or 4 countries. Not a great. But probably above the average who spend a career with no silverware.

Hi,

Barnes set black managers back a generation. A disaster! Souness was a great player so maybe expectations of him were too high. How about Dave Moyes who has done a great job at Everton? I would rate him much higher than Souness.

Moyes is one of the highest rated managers in England has done a tremendous job at Everton on very limited funds having his best players sold on him etc

Hi,

Barnes set black managers back a generation. A disaster!

Barnes hates Brentford for some reason. He turns teams onto thugs against us. MK Dons had 5 bookings last time he managed them at GP. He subbed all 5 to keep 11 on the pitch.

When he bought N.County here last year, we were watching with a County supporter, who was embarassed at how dirty his team was playing. He had never seen them play that way before.

Last time he was manager against L.Orient, he thew a cup of tea at an ex Brentfords Orient official.

The big rumour, when we were looking for a manager, was Barnes had put in for the job- Nooooooo !
