Hi there guys. I realise that there is some comment re this place on another thread for the AA Hotel. I would however like some feed back about this place as it looks interesting and I was thinking about it for the next trip.

Sadly the reviews on Tripadvisor are too mixed to be of value. From excellent to total crap.

Any thoughts?

The food is OK, completely different to the AA. AA is a big 'industrial' hotel whilst the haven is small with a quaint rustic charm.

Depending when you arrive, and providing its not the Christmas period, why not just try them for one night to so see if they are to your liking. Plenty of others in the same area you might even suit your personal taste better, Dynasty, Whitehouse, Pattaya Bay Resort, Lek, and others

The food is OK...

OK sums up the food...or you might substitute OK for hit and miss.

80b breakfast,,,2 eggs, "bacon" (ham) 2 toast and small cup of coffee is a pretty good value...but, if you stray from that selection, yer on yer own...the Mexican dish with the flour tortillas, rice, beans and fried eggs was served with stale tortillas that could have been used as frisbees...but the waitress that served me is a friend so I let it go.

I quit eating dinner there a few trips ago as the chicken and then the beef selection was served all dried out.

better option for food is the Sportsman 2 doors down towards 2nd road.

The Haven does show NFL/MLB games live on a big flat screen in the front dining section and an old time 54" home theatre screen in the back dining room....you just have to awake early enough to view the games.

Thanks for the comments re the food however it was really the rooms and pool I was interested in. Seems to me that all rooms are the same size and fromnt the pool. Are there enough loungers? Are the rooms clean? Is the staff good value?

We use to stay here when Cherry Bar 2 was just around the corner. We now stay in Soi Lengki same quality hotels for less the price.

It is a golfers hotel so they get up early, by time we got up we would have the place to ourselves. Use to catch up with some of them in the pool in afternoon. Allways enjoyed the food and the staff, found the owner a bit of a knob but then I am a fat frang women messing up his retirement heaven. It needs a good tidy up but if the tourist are'nt coming in like they use to owners are stuck to find the money.

Ground floor was good just the golfers walking pass in the morning. We had problems with the curtains letting in to much light just through the bed cover up there.

Did say once I would like to buy this place and do it up. Its in the right place and not to big.

I looked at this place a couple years ago. There is no way I would consider this as acceptable, unless it was priced at 600 bht per night, even then I would have second thoughts.

When I was looking at this place, I also looked at the apartments across the soi with the wagon wheel, Inn of the Golden Crab.

I spent the last two years (a month each year) at this place and highly recommend it.

Would I stay at the Haven . . . 5 5 5, are you kidding?!

Would I stay at the Golden Crab? In a heartbeat if I hadn't found some place better.

My advice, look elsewhere. The Haven ain't no haven!

But then, its just my opinion. Take it or leave it.

(P.S. They night watchman @ Golden Crab keeps an eye on the Haven as well.)

Five of my friends stayed there and had three rooms. Two of the rooms had air conditioner problems. When the air cons did work, they were very noisy. The rooms were not a good value for the money and my friends won't stay there again.

The food was decent but the staff didn't care if they waited on you or not. VERY slow service. It has gone downhill and over all maintenance is poor.

JP Court at this stage don't see the need to change, will be staying there next February. Lots of regular English men with lady's. Also Thai family's would like to avoid the Thai school holidays as even the staffs kids are at the hotel but this would probably be a plus for your family.

The do not do food but have drinks in the lobby and any food you can think of is in hopping distance.

I can use the Wifi if I sit out on the veranda or very good down in the lobby.

Staff are great, we have paid 500 to 700 baht depending on the time of year, pool being repaired, how many days we stay or even the staff we pay the money to determens the amount.

This is the hotel next door offers even cheaper rates but they have no pool.

A flash hotel/ apartment style should be finished by now.

We have all so stayed in Opey PE De would recommend it as well their not as flexible on price but good hotel. They have good cheap food.

The air con stunk when I stayed at Opey De Place in 07, lets hope it has improved.

The first thing we do in all hotels is pull out the filter and wash it in the shower, just dry it out before putting it back in.

I used to stay at the Haven and each time I stayed there were problems. Guess I was a sucker for punishment. The last time I stayed there I have water pressure issues in my room. I reported the problem but the owner just shrugged and did not do anything about it.

The owner and his wife truly represent Basil Fawlty from the TV series. Could not care less about their customers.

My advice - stay at another hotel. The only plus for this hotel is its location. Central and away from all the noise.

Same-same AC problems, horrible service, loud in the morning, the owner was a complete tool (I don't mind being ignored but loud public accusations of non-payment for crappy rental clubs without checking to see if they actually had been paid [they had] is too much]. Never again.

I stayed at The Haven about 12 years ago. I see the owner's attitude has not improved.

Little Roy

He's a completely different person when you talk to him about the NFL...he's a NFL junkie and will give you the score on any game you've missed.

then there's the old dude with the white hair who has breakfast everyday at the Haven...a loudmouthed American who scawls anti-semitic words on photos in the daily newspapers..he's a fixture at the Haven...I try not to have breakfast until 9:30 when he's gone...but, if there's an American sporting event on that you want to watch you can't help but bump into him.

Thanks all for the comments. Whilst it is clear that the place has had a makeover it seems also clear that the management and staff leave a lot to be desired and I will not risk my holiday staying there. The place that I have in mind will cost me 250 a day more but its tried and tested and I know that I will not be disapointed.

Ditto...I found his friends to be the ones to be eradicated. Came out of the pool one day to take a life of one his friends. He left quickly. If you dont mind firecrackers all day long in the pool area. I suggest not to be there during loy krathong. I did enjoy the food though. Especially the tuna salads. One good thing is TQ1 is just around the corner....Doorman!
