Phone them up and get your seat allocated beforehand.

The online check-in facility is available 24 hours prior to departure (I think). How are you going to prevent anyone choosing the seat next to you in the intervening (20 hour) period?

If the flight isn't full, wait till after take off and then go look for a better seat.

No good. Apparently, Thai Airways has been taken over by the Pattaya Songthaew Cooperative and now they just wait until they are full.

If thats the case, i'll happily pay 10 baht for the Thai flight.

To reply to your query, as I can see where you're coming from, about 3 hours usually, I am not sure who Thai use as handling agents at LHR, Eva use AA and they open up over 4 hours before.

I believe that Thai use Air Canada as handling/cargo agents at LHR, and they not the quickest people out of the block. But saying that, my last flight on Thai was the lunchtime flight about 2 years ago, and i managed to check in at 07.30am.

i just rang thai to try and book a window seat, departure Jan 13th, they told me they only had a few left and coming home i could only have a aisle seat, this would indicate most of their flights are pretty much full right now

Go online check in and select the very last row, I usually book the RH window seat. never had anyone sit next to me in more than 20 flights.

I rang Thai airways and a really unhelpful woman told me that all the back few rows with 2 seats by the windows were all booked already. Also i couldnt book an exit row seat at check in either.

Yes, and its always women and 99% foreigners. When i speak to a bloke on the phone they are much more helpful.

Seems the women have always got a superior attitude.

The woman don't like you because they know you are going out to Thailand for the LBFMs most of whom are prettier, sexier etc etc than a frumpy old falang woman. :3some

I never sit at the back if possible its often too hot and asways noisy as you would expect.

I like to sit at the front as you get there sooner.

Can you check in online to choose yor seat and then check in again at airport for luggage drop and boarding pass?.

My printer isnt working.

I usually check in online to get my seat then head to the counter at the airport and go to the baggage drop counter, they print my boarding pass for me there.
