The Olympics, London 2012 - A time to be proud

Recommended Posts

Well I slag my own country off all the time and always say how much I can't wait to leave but I must say that the opening ceremony has been absolutely spectacular and I defy anyone who is British who hasn't felt proud of their country tonight. Nothing but respect for Danny Boyle's vision and all those that made that possible tonight, COME ON TEAM GB, let's come top of the medal table and make this one to remember!

Oops! Really bad news for the French Cycling Team ....       Olympic Cycling - French Team Quarters Raided     By Karolos Grohmann and Paul Casciato LONDON, July 29 | Sun Jul 29, 2012 11:52am

Why is it a "bah humbug" and totally unnecessary pissing on someone's parade by me voicing my opinion? I think London should be proud to host the 2012 Olympics!!!!! I just did not like the opening

Thought the whole thing was fantastic, much better than I expected and the cauldron lighting by the young hopefuls at the end was inspired. Well done Danny Boyle and everyone involved. :thumbup :thumbup :thumbup

I like to think the Olympics is a time to be British rather than the individual components.

I like to think the Olympics is a time to be British rather than the individual components.

Jacko.

as my old granny would say to us,at least once a week.

"why do the english say Great Britain when they really mean England".

she was a hard old Scot from Glasgow.

Jacko,it's not like i dislike the poms, but i do at times like to get up ya noses.

some of the best blokes i have met in LOS in the last 19yrs are poms from Essex and Manchester and i talk to them every other day.

only a englishman would think british, you think the welsh and scots think they are not welshmen or scotsman, because the olympics are on?

That Mr Bean bit and the James Bond bit had me cringing with embarrassment.

I'm not a fan of either but unfortunately they are two things we are known for throughout the world.

great music

Along with our literature, our two greatest exports.

I thought bean's bit and J B were great. Here come Thailand let's see if I can spot any Ladyboys.

Still trying to decipher exactly what some of the ceremony referred to.

I presume the birds on bikes bit was reference to the "They shall mount up with wings as eagles" as spoken by Ian Charleson (Eric Liddell) in Chariots of Fire (at 1'30" in the youtube clip).

But why were they playing U2 when the Thai team was entering the stadium? What was that all about? :clueless

Hi,

Danny Boyle, a Scot, ran the show. Do the Scottish run everything in England ?

I think you're confused ... but an easy mistake to make. :thumbup

NOT Danny Boyle ....

Far from a Scot;

Boyle was born on 20 October 1956 in

Radcliffe, Lancashire (now in the modern day metropolitan borough of Bury, Greater Manchester),[2] into a working-class Irish Catholic family. His mother was from Ballinasloe in County Galway, and his father was born in England to an Irish family.[3]

Hi Tom,

I believe the birds on bikes were supposed to depict the release of White Doves link below

http://www.telegraph...breakdowns.html

The releasing of doves became a traditional part of the Olympics opening ceremony after the end of the First World War !

Really enjoyed it, well done. I think the poor Queen wasn't too happy about the time of night, she looked terrible throughout but you must admire her sense of humour for allowing the Bond bit. To think the majority of performers were volunteers, and real NHS staff and patients for the childrens bouncy bed bit - they had a right good laugh, brilliant!

Jolly good show chaps!

Yes "rock and droll' as another American succinctly put.

Like your signature. I almost had, 'veni, vidi, visa'..... I came, I saw, I shopped!!!!!!

The exclamation marks only being there to hopefully draw 'fornicators' attention and interest him!!!!! (ditto)!!!!!!
