Hi all, its been a while since i was last in Thailand and was wondering if the tourist/exempt visa process is the same when entering with a UK passport.

As in you just Que with the form filled in on the plane, they stamp your passport and staple that little white slip in which they remove on departure and "welcome to Thailand"??

Anybody know why they STAPLE that slip in??, my last passport had loads of staples left in it.. do you guys remove them or just leave them??

They always seemed to use a new page each time also... so bloody staple in every page just under the stamps. Do they still do that??

For some reason some hotels and money changers (t- cheques) have asked for my departure card lately. Don't recall that ever happening before.

Just remove the staple after you leave. The departure card could be part of the proof that you are legally in the country. If that issue.ever actually arises it's a lot easier to look at the departure card than to go through all of the stamps. Also simplifies accounting for your departure when you leave.

And the card is normally on the page where your most recent stamp is so it is easier to find in a busy passport. I doubt they audit the staples and fine serial destaplers.

It beats gluing them in like in El Salvador where the tourist card is 3/4 of passport page and useless afterwards, but they will place it in or staple it on asking.

The last few years, I've been making it a point to hand them my passport with the Arrival Card (completely filled out of course) inserted between the pages where I would like the stamp, and to my surprise, that's where they've been putting it.

Many passports have RFID tags in them now.

Hi,

The way things are going, people will have them next.

You can always take a hammer to your passport, but doing so 'will possibly single you out for secondary screening...

tomcat, two words, microwave oven.

'Nope. I mean that'll work. But it burns up the antenna, which is solid evidence that it's been tampered with, which is illegal. The hammer just has to impact it enough to render it inop, and given the punishment some passports take, is not necessarily evidence of deliberate destruction. You're under some obligation to safeguard your passport, but not to prevent wear & tear.

If you are still not sure and are in town the same time as BIgD arrange a meet-up and ask to see his passport, he is normally quite keen to show it to board members and those pesky stamps. !!!!!! LOL
