Passed away in San Diego today at 92. I feel fortunate to have seen this great artist in concert at the Pabst Theater in Milwaukee in 1990.

An except from Monterey Pop, the pre-Woodstock rock concert that made stars of Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin during the "Summer of Love"

I was reading recently about one of the Beatle entourage who gave Ravi a standing ovation only to discover he'd just been tuning up.

At 4:25...is that one of the Monkees??

Yep, good eye. It was Micky Dolenz (I had to look that up).

Just as an aside, I was at the Monterey Pop Festival...drove up from Santa Barbara on a Suzuki 250 on the spur of the moment...no rooms available, slept in the park, gate crashed several shows (security was obviously lax). However, I didn't catch Ravi Shankar.

isn't his daughter Nora Jones. great on stringed instruments it must run in the family. RIP.

Actually Norah Jones is not his legitimate daughter and Norah is the one great with vocals. His legit daughter isAnoushka Shankar and she plays the Sitar but is not as talented as her old man. In fact, I hate to slam a lady here, but she sucks at playing the sitar. In fact I was at a concert where both of them played and she was downright pitiful

I believe he taught George Harrison the sitar.

And yes, he was the father of Nora Jones.

He introduced Indian music to the west. Quite a legacy.

He played at Woodstock.
