I cant see it happening, the japs, Chinese and the Russians are worth too much to the economy to start to piss them off. If you have a visa in your passport, does that not mean you have permission to enter the country already.

What a brilliant idea. Every 500 baht they collect with this caper will be counterbalanced by many more people choosing to spend thousands of dollars someplace else.

I can't see it happening in the form stated in the article; However; a similar hoik in "Airport taxes" would be quite likely. ( That's how they do it in UK )

Remember the 500 Baht exit fee we used to pay at the airport. We still pay it but it's part of the airport taxes we pay when we book the trip.

Yes, and it might well be more than 500 baht now too!

I think it went up to 700 when the tax became incorporated.

Additional airport taxes would hit Thais as well when that's not the intention. I think the guy is just suggesting that his ministry should be given more dosh.

They've had "two tiered" airport taxes before. Perversely charging Thais much more than foreign visitors.

How much do they charge to get in and out of the UK by air?

Obviously not enough as it seems anyone arriving in the UK can have free healthcare and if they ask probably house too.

If it gets bundled in with other taxes on the ticket price, I guess it could happen as others have suggested.

 

The Yingluck govt is having budget problems as it subsidizes rice farmers up the yingyang, so some desperation in revenue finding is expected.

I believe this is an exaggeration.

 

I doubt I could get off the plane in England, get government payments, a house and free medical.

 

Just saying...If so, I might be over there soon

Martin only a slight exaggeration.

 

Many people come to take advantage of free medical treatment, emergency or routine. Houses are freely available to those that can make a case, or if you are unable to make a case because you cannot speak the language. No problem with claiming benefits should you be a little short of cash. When you had enough of the place you can apply for a return ticket free of charge.

 

Some eastern europeans use the free ticket option to go home for a holiday before returning to their house and benefits.

Yes they have asked for a 500 Baht enter fee and also to raise the exit fee by an additional 100 baht. They say it's because most tourists don't have medical and also to attract a higher class of tourists so they won't have so much trouble with the low class tourists they are attracting.
