General Election - Impact for Tourists

Recommended Posts

Re the question asked by the OP. I guess that I am a fairly average tourist to Pattaya. I want to be there in late February and to achieve this I need to make bookings possibly this week. Its not just taking advantage of the best fare deal but in my case its also about saving a serious amount booking feeder flights early and tying in with domestic issues. I also saw the accommodation that I wanted last trip and have already pre-booked.

There are so many things that COULD go wrong in Thailand or indeed any place on Earth and if I allowed all the permutations to bother me I would travel nowhere!

Bottom line for me I just need to get on and do it and remember that in 20 plus visits to Thailand nothing un-towards has happened other than the odd missed flight due to weather and break down and assuming that your heading to Pattaya I think that this is always treated a bit differently because of the mass tourist trade that descends there.

With your 20+ trips, I think you understand, TIT

There is always some chaos, drama or political issue ongoing, so you might as well make your plans to visit

At this moment in time, I can't see the Democrats participating in an election. More likely they'll follow their 2006 tactics, hoping for the same result. IMHO.   Edit in: The Election Commission

My own worry is that what we are seeing is the beginning of the "endgame" being played out ... i.e. to be in control come the day we can't talk about. I don't see an obvious solution that will satisf

As with everything in life, everyone has to make their own decisions and it's good that you've made yours. I think that threads such as these are beneficial as they allow folk to make their own decisions based on whatever information is available at the time.

That may be true, but only if you ignore the storming of the media centre at the Royal Cliff, the helicopter evacuation of the ASEAN government ministers and mob attack on the Prime Minister's car ... all events that happened in Pattaya. Besides, the tourist trade in Bangkok is hardly insignificant.

In fairness I personally have so many considerations that this forum has zero influence on what I do. When I was a wage slave however and only got one chance a year then these things become more important. One of the reasons that I started coming to Thailand in the first place was because I was due to go to Bali a week after the bombings and the travel agent allowed me to change to Thailand without penalty. I could see a desolate holiday had I have gone to Bali with the politics of the time. I really have only two choices and they are go or don't go and the second option has never crossed my mind however for all the reasons that I mentioned my window of opportunity is narrow and whatever the political situation I will be booking within the next few days.

I forget the reason why you cancelled your trip to AC. I'm sure it will come to me.

Cancelling your Bali trip was understandable.

I cancelled AC simply because I wanted to do so and had better use for my time. I don't need any ones permission nor do I have to give a reason.

Ah yes, I remember now. After extensive research and posting numerous questions on various boards you decided it was too dangerous.

Jacko I am only ever in two phases. I am in Pattaya or planning to be in Pattaya. As mentioned elsewhere I booked my accommodation for next trip, last trip so I can therefore do both things at once!

There will be places selling a drink discreetly..... or you could go out for dinner and then back to the room with a nice companion.

A little OTT to change your travel plans.

Staying in Bangkok?

Pattaya is just down the motorway and you could avoid BKK altogether if that makes you feel better.
