I hope that you don't take this criticism to heart as I am trying to be constructive for you. I also find it a bit off putting when I have this conversation.

OK, will have the special. Heineken beer please.

No have.

OK, San Mig please.

No Have.

OK, Singh please.

No Have.

Ok, what you have.

Can have Chang or Leo.

I eventually sorted it out that if you have the special which includes an ale it has to be Chang or Leo. I have no issue with this but a foot-note on the board would stop all these questions and some frustration,

Having spent a fair amount of time in China I sussed out that the British version of Chinese food is pretty piss poor and I would not go to Thailand to eat British Chinese food when you can get excell

I believe Odense was trying to point out the fact that curry is as English as pizza is American. Am I wrong?   (more is an answer to your post I think the so called New York or Chicago pizza is crap

Yes, thanks to keen photographers as my camera isn't up to much.   The new Wok N Rok still to put pictures up but this is it.

The board outside offering the Special has been changed to reflect this. We used to offer any beer with the special but the profit margin was way too low. Not worth doing it.

However the Special today is Chicken or Beef curry. For the first time, there is a choice of two options.

OK, you did your bit and now I have done mine and had a meal there so here is my review.

Just for old times sake I ordered the daily special of beef curry and chips and a Leo.

The beer was cold and tasty and the street theatre on Soi Buakhao is brilliant.

The curry has three components, sauce, beef and 'vegetables'.

The star for me is the tasty, tangy and medium hot sauce, Spot on.

The beef was fine however I expected it in cubes like the UK rather than slices but it was as tender as I have had beef in Asia.

The vegetables was in fact onions and nothing else. I really believe that a bit of colour and texture would improve the look and taste of the meal and if you don't like onions then there would have been high wastage. I do like them and they were tasty and tender.

No chips complaints and the meal was served hot, another failing with a lot of Thai meals.

Other than the onion issue I will give this a pass mark.

I've never seen a Chinese in the UK serving curry with cubed beef. This is what Indians curry houses do.

Yes, Her curry sauce recipe is almost identical to where She used to work. Given the ingredients available here, She has the taste almost perfect.

Most Scottish Chinese curries only have onions in them. Some English Chinese curries have green peas and onions.

The Chef/Boss is trained in Scottish Chinese restaurants and She tries to faithfully stick to this style of Chinese food.

Thanks for your custom, it's appreciated.

The big review is in.

We knew Pattayamail was coming. Had no idea who they were or what they would make of Wok N Rok.

Now... before I post the link and parts of this review, let me say it's been a DAMNED hard week for Ouy.

The two 'Family in the kitchen' just walked out. 2 hours notice and said "We go two weeks for Songkran" After they had 5 days off recently.

OK...They shafted Her big time. She asked them repeatedly to think about their jobs. 14K Baht a Month. Free air con suite. Free food, electric, laundry, water, Wi-Fi Food and drink. Including alcohol. Plus daily tips. Amounting to a 30K plus a Month package. But no..."we leave to get pissed up the village"

Anybody that knows Ouy will appreciate She will NOT put up with this. They are gone for EVER.

Anyhow, She has a new helper in the kitchen and WILL employ a new trainee Chef.

This will be a great opportunity for a HARD WORKING Thai to learn the ART of Chinese cooking.

I'm happy to say some service staff have been replaced too.

We have a new smiling English speaking cashier and new Ladies. I think they will in time be better than the others.

She came here a curvy 50kg Lady and has lost 10kg working non stop 15 hour shifts, with burn marks everywhere on her arms. None to be seen on Her previous helpers. Ha-ha.

She deserves this review and I honestly feel She has achieved what She set out to do. Give Pattaya, or Thailand the first Western Chinese standard food.

Where do we go from here? I don't know.

Business through staffing problems is more difficult here than ever imagined.

Anyway, this is a post from the heart. No promotion meant here, just honesty.

Enjoy the review.

This is what Pattayamail had to say.

Wok N Rok advertises itself as “the best UK style Chinese food in Pattaya” which does mean that the owners have a great faith in their product, or perhaps deluding themselves!
We went along to see just for ourselves.

Mains are next up (B. 155-165) and in sections depending upon the type of cooking and includes curries, sweet and sour, kung pao, black pepper sauce, black bean sauce, honey chilli, orange sauce, lemon sauce, Peking, oyster sauce, chow mein, egg fu young, euro, sides and desserts.

In true Chinese fashion, we ordered numbers 5, 18, 46 and 54, which we shared - these were spare ribs, sweet and sour pork, chicken satay and batter chicken in lemon sauce.
They were all excellent and Rattana told me very proudly that the sauces were her own secret recipe.

We spoke with some of the other diners and all were repeat customers, and everyone gave Wok N Rok glowing reports.
After experiencing the food ourselves, we also give Rattana and her Wok N Rok top marks, and undoubtedly it was “the best UK Chinese Style Dining Experience in Pattaya,” that we have tried.

I'm happy to report that today has been the busiest day in the kitchen yet, thanks to the Pattayamail exposure. Plus of course our regular loyal customers from various forums.

She has hired two new kitchen assistants.

Hi and sorry for the delay in responding. Thanks for your comments and I want to acknowledge my mistake when I posted my review. I was of course thinking INDIAN curry and then I realised that in fact what I was having was a curry in a Chinese restaurant and this is of course a totally different thing and to be honest not something that I am not qualified to comment on. I admit to knowing little about Chinese cuisine from any place but the bottom line is still that I enjoyed what I had even if I didnt understand precisely what I was eating.

Hours of business.

Dear Pattaya Talk. Until further notice the Wok N Rok kitchen will be open from 12pm - 2:30am.

Because of a member of staff leaving the 9am opening time has been cancelled. For the time being until new staff found and trained.

However the breakfasts will continue and will be available all day.

Thanks.
