The Imperial War Museum, London

Recommended Posts

Welcome to the "new and improved" Imperial War Museum London.
Went here last weekend with my dad, and the first thing we shouldnt have done was to go on the weekend. Fecking hell was it busy, and it didnt help with having the BBC filming there at the same time.
All i can say is that they have now ruined this once fine museum. They have ripped out what was once the ground floor and made it open, a hell of a lot of exhibits have disappeared and are nowhere to be seen. Its almost like a lot of conflicts around the world that the UK were involved in have never have happened!!!

Seems the BBC were filming at the time as well................

I took my Thai lady to the one in Manchester some years back.

It looks very similar to what you saw and I was left a bit disappointed, I thought the content was somewhat minimal considering the long history of 'wars' the UK has,

Not a single mention of the Siege of Khartoum and stuff like that, perhaps it would upset the local fuzzy-wuzzies!

Thanks for posting.

We'd go as kids on our own and race round the place.

Most popular of course was the spitfire……..But the two exhibits I always took newcomers to were the German gun with mirrored sights and a curved barrel that shot round corners……..And the submariner's toilet. This was a complicated contraption for flushing your shit out under pressure. Failure to operate all the leavers correctly was known as 'Getting your own back'

Probably not a big display on the Indian Mutiny either.
