racist sisha shop in pratamnak

Recommended Posts

Last weekend me and my friend went to pratamnak to smoke sisha and the sisha shop called 'after beach' didnt let us enter to the shop and they refused to service us. When i ask the reason they said ' we only serve fto russians'. When i ask why dont they want to serve me and is there a problem with being Turkish , they said the owner of the shop doesnt want to serve to non RUssians. This is the racist thing i ve ever seen. How come a shop or a restaurant refuse to service ? As an expat , i am legally working in this country and a asshole thinks that i dont deserve to smoke sisha in his damm place. I took the photo of this place and i m planning to complain about this bussiness. Does anybody know where can i send my complain?

Discrimination on race, religion and national origin is well-entrenched in Thai society.

There might be an anti-discrimination law of some sort on the books, but getting anyone in authority to do anything about it would probably be an exercise in futility, especially a small business.

I recommend you just let it go and smoke shisha somewhere where your business will be appreciated. There are plenty of places where shisha smoking can be done without hassles all over Pattaya.

we looked for other places but no sisha. I just learnt that sisha is forbidden now due to law. Its strange cause that place still has sisha... now i m thinking that it can be a mafia shop.

Yes, shishas are under attack by the government, and they are subject to a new edict from the powers that be, but they are still quite common in the Walking Street area, especially around what is called Marine Plaza, at the south end of Walking Street.

The map here shows "Maleen Plaza", and all around this area are bars with shisha being used openly.

Bouqetta - The Istanbul Restaurant at The Avenue shopping center on 2nd Road is owned by Turkish people and has a full shisha setup. I don't know if you'd like the food, but I'm sure it would be no problem for you to smoke shisha there.

I would go with EPs recommendation.

If you really feel you must complain, then take it to City Hall on Pattaya Nua. Note that you are complaining that they wouldn't serve you do something illegal, which doesn't make sense.

Don't sweat racism in Thailand, there are places that only service Japanese, obviously Russians, and Thais are refused entry to many establishments, yet get into others cheaper.

I see shisha all over the place, legal or not. You can puff away while getting a foot massage!

Here I am sitting here having a laugh. Racism! Shit, go and look on this forum, and read posts made by a board member where almost everyone is lambasted. Just look for a topic with RANT in the title! As has already been stated, walk away from the issue as there definitely many more similar places in Pattaya.

There might be a number of reasons why the shop didn’t want you to sample their wares.

The first most obvious one is that their staff have been picked to deal with Russians. Language and customs can e different. I know this is a valid excuse when gogo’s advertise...Japanese only.

In some cases English, American or Australian patrons get a bit silly and spoil the atmosphere for other patrons. I saw this in Soi 6 last year when two young POMs were arcing up in one bar making it uncomfortable for the other 10 drinkers. I’m sure that controlling the demographics of the patrons will help to maintain the harmony of the bar. Personally, I would be happy to join in with a sing song of "Oiy da ne vecher (Oiy, it’s not evening yet)” and I would be very disappointed if a few Aussie lads decided to wade in with a few verses of Waltzing Mathilda.

Discrimination is practised in Thailand but I doubt that you can actually blame he Thais, There are many bars that won’t let Thais enter and its their country.

The funny part is that the waiters were from pakistan or india. When i told this to my thai coworker she said that its normal in thailand and the owner can refuse to serve. She also said that she can not go to many clubs as they dont let thai's . And she thinks its all normal. I m new in thailand... but it is really strange for me to see that people think its normal. If i go to a restaurant in turkey they can refuse to serve and excuse would be 'need reservation'. But they can not say 'no foreigner'. I still dont understand why thais accept it. Anyway... as my friend said ' i have to stop trying to understand and accept the fact that we are in a foreign country'... go with the flow'.

Bouqetta

I believe you live in Naklua? If you know where Anton's restaurant is, turn up the road running along side it - Soi 27 or Soi Roylang. About 200 metres up on the right is a couple of new-ish bars under a hotel. If you go in the first one (which has a blue pool table at the back but clearly visible from the road) they have lots of shisha pipes in there. Even if you don't see anyone smoking them, just ask as they have loads in the back.

It's a pleasant bar, too, very friendly.

Hope that helps

Wandering (staggering?) out of FLB one night, headed toward second round, I stumbled (pun intended) upon a wide area where there were insect and other food vendors, many bikes parked and a building with many hookahs outside.

I was told it was part of the Arab section.

Is it still there?

Yes, it is, and it's grown out of that area almost down to Walking Street. The last non-Arab bar on Soi 16 is Rolling Live..all others have become Arab style. Hookahs everywhere openly being used.

Sad to hear but as we all know there is entrenched racism in thai society and it's here to stay. Many locals don't even understand why it is wrong.

Go to the arab quarter near VC hotel and what not. Loads of great places down there with middle eastern food and shisha etc... great selection.

It sucks but you'll expend time and energy and get no where with the authorities i should think...
