Cambodian VisaRuns suspended !

Recommended Posts

Hi. Be careful if you intend to make a visarun soon. It seems that yesterday all Immigration offices at the Cambodia border refused to let go out people doing visarun (in-out the same day). This continues today.

Result is that there is probably no visarun to Cambodia from Pattaya by minibus today. A owner of a travel agency I know told me he cancelled all trips for next week. Other agencies may try to continue for people with multi non-O only.

There is an already long topic opened on ThaiVisa:

I don't understand the point of a visa run for someone with a multi non-O. Is there some class of non-O that requires leaving the country periodically?

A 12 month multi entry non immigrant O "B" (Business) visa entitled me to 90 days on entry at any immigration post.

The panic is for those who are relying on the visa waiver of 30 days, not those with a proper visa.

I think all multi non-Imm Visa give you only 90 days stays,

so you need a visarun every 3 month if you want to stay here full time with such visa.

Special case are OA visa (that allow a 1-year stay, so no visarun before 1 year).

You don't need a visarun if you get some kind of 1-year extension though,

but many people don't qualify for them (need 50 yo, or married, or child, ...)

I had a non-imm B visa when I had my work permit, and didn't have to leave every 90 days as the extension was good for 1 year.

The key word here is "work permit".

You were no more on a stay from your visa, but from a 1-year Extension that your work-permit gave you.

Also, many non-B people without a work-permit (I know, I got one during 1 year ;))

So, if I hadn't had the work permit, I'd have had to leave the country every 3 months? Interesting.

But if you hadn't had the work permit you would likely have gone the retirement route so would not have had to do the 90 day visa run, just the 90 day reporting. (I think I am correct in assuming that you were over 50 when you moved to Thailand)(edited for typos).

Hehe. Reminds me of the good old days when I first got here, and had a retirement visa as well as a work permit. I carried on like that for 3 years before the fat gay guy at immigration noticed my passport had a notation that I had a work permit on the last page. This was after he had stamped my extension and was about to send me on to the next station. He then crossed out my extension, which left me 7 days to leave the country and obtain a proper visa for which I had to reapply for my work permit.

Many years ago I used to get Non-Imm O type visas (multiples) from the very compliant Hull consulate and was required to do Visa runs every 90 days.

I expect you only had a single Non-Imm B and extended it each year? What did you start off with?

I recall a neighbour of mine had a dodgy lawyer (and dodgy work permit probably) and he made him leave the country every 90days and start his process again to make more money. When he wised up and baulked and said he wouldn't pay a big bill, the lawyer wouldn't return his passport to him.

Well, I suppose they could have let them out and then refused reentry.

News (or rumour?) tonight is that from tomorrow

no more visarun will be possible on the Cambodia border,

EVEN if you have a Visa ! (2-entry tourist visa, multi non-Imm, ...)

Mr Key Visa is appearing at The Expats Club on Sunday and I will see what information he has... he seems to have connections.

That is if I can get there!
