London-Phuket Return £269

Tempting price, but that's the basic price before extras are added, like selecting a seat and luggage.... that added £95 to the price when I did a dummy booking for 8 days later this month.

Can't you dodge the allocated seating? (And end up sat near the toilet with an IFE box in the way). My sister did a Thompson flight recently and seemed quite happy with it. Mind you it was 4 hours not 12.

Ive got to do one of these cheapie flights soon, just for the hell of it. Take my own Sandwiches, Mars bars and a large bottle of chocolate milk.

I might try the Germanwings flights

we flew Norwegian wings direct to the USA in the summer (I think they're affiliated or something to do with germanwings GP), overall the experience wasn't awful, but it's worth remembering to take your own headphones for the IFE or be stung $8 for a pair, plus there's no blankets , cushions etc provided but opn the flipside the IFE was excellent and free.

My experience of Thompson / Thomas Cook is that their long haul flights aren't the most comfortable option to spend 12 hours on a seat with very limited recline.

Norwegian (no wings) is an airline based in Norway. German Wings is a low cost carrier owned by Lufthansa.

I have thought about this a few times.......not many but a few......wouldn't you have to buy the stuff at the airport or can you take it past the security screening OK..??

My sons in the past have taken McDonalds onto a flight...

I've taken sandwiches and oranges through security at both Heathrow and Gatwick without any problems. Also an empty one litre bottle with the intention of filling it from a drinking fountain on the other side (I didn;t find one but that doesn't mean they don't exist).

The last few times, WH Smith's airside was giving away a 500 ml bottle of water if tou bought a Telegraph.

Obviously you'ld have to buy any booze once you got airside (unless you can pass it off as baby food).
