Tax and WP dodgers

Ive been told that a certain socia media site has been reported to authorities for allowing a member, no WP, to run adds for a restuarant under the guise of the adds just being a topic of conversation instead of paid advertising, therefore dodging tax on the payments from the restuarant. Cash in the pocket of all concerned. They will find themjselves in hot curry soon. I do find it hard to believe, probably just a viscious rumour.

Vague and who are you accusing exactly?. Surely on a discussion forum, a discussion about a business is purely that, otherwise it could be construed that every topic mentioning a business is an "advert".

 

It sounds that "they" are accusing someone who perhaps writes reviews of restaurants / hotels / bars doing so for financial gain. Good luck proving anything, and while they're at it I suggest "they" report everyone who's ever written a Tripadvisor report on a Thai venue at the same time.

As for Work Permit dodgers, I would imagine that immigration or whoever investigates this kind of thing is more interested in an easy snatch like catching any given farang "bar owner" / burmese construction worker/ Russian or African "tour guide" (of which there are loads on WS) instead of having to prove something that is behind a username, in the public domain and open to interpretation.

Can you explain what you mean by this? I have a hard time imagining how this would apply to ads on social media.

This is the kind of thread I lock immediately. Ballboy (our term for posters with as few posts as the OP) posting sh*t just to stir rumors. Wouldn't doubt that he/she is somewhere else under a different username pointing to this thread to justify him spreading the rumor at the other site.
