First time traveller, hotel suggestions

Recommended Posts

This will be my first time in Pattaya, actually my first time in Thailand. I am looking for a good clean hotel, which is close to all the action, but out the way of all the noise. I am travelling alone and am planning to go between October and January. It would also be helpful if they did breakfast, but not as important. I am planning a 10 day trip and have a budget of around 400 - 500 pounds

If you'd like a good safe bet, in the middle of the action, then I'd suggest the Queen Victoria on Soi 6. That way a pom can still get beer from the UK and food they will recognise. Rates are from about 850Baht for the smaller rooms. One of the rooms at the back would be the quietest. Discrete rear entrance and very guest friendly.

October is one of the wettest months in Pattaya,so you might want to avoid. If you want dry and cooler at night

January is perfect.

Areca lodge or LK Metropole would be good choices. Both will be around that budget.Having said that there are many

smaller hotels that are close to half that price.

That is my budget for the hotel.

You do not need to spend that sort of money unless you like the Hilton. 1000 -2000 Baht / day ( I will let the poms convert that) will get you very acceptable digs. You can get rooms for less than that if you do not set your requirements too high. As most places are relatively close it does not matter too much where you stay. I tend to stay a little away from the action as it is usually a bit quieter when I want to sleep other people like to stay in the middle of Walking St, horses for courses.

I would recommend that you have at least 1 or 2 night's accommodation booked before you travel so you have an address to put on the immigration arrival card. I have had people in front of me in the immigration line stopped because they did not have a valid booking. The bloody immigration officer made them book before processing them while we waited, prick should have sent them to the back of the line. You can move later if the hotel is not for you, nothing worse than having to stay in a place that has screaming locals outside your window day and night or construction noise while you trying to sleep because you have paid in advance

Use the Agoda link at the top of the page to book and it will help with the running of this site.

Understand that your wide time-frame, October to January, includes low season, high season and peak season, flight prices and hotel prices will adjust accordingly. Christmas and New Year hotels are pretty full. Hotel breakfasts are often poor, if you can get out of bed soon enough for them. A late breakfast at a good restaurant/ cafe will be better. A restaurant/cafe/bar with guest rooms is a good option too.

I have been spending quite a few mornings in the Devonshire on soi Lengkee recently. The food is good quality at a reasonable price,it is served promptly by friendly long legged beauties in short shorts, people watching of those leaving the Opey de Place is very entertaining and they do a large carafe of wine for 195 baht with an ice bucket if you wish ( and for Cedar Creek, I wish it).....

They also have rooms but I have no idea what they are like..... If anybody is interested I'll get one of the girls to show me a room........

EDIT = For a first time traveller it would be perfect. A choice of English comfort food and Thai food to keep you going whilst you find your way around. I have seen the English owner sit and advise guests when asked..In fact it has a friendly open atmosphere that allows chatting between tables if you want to ask any questions...... and a short walk to several choices of naughtiness , including Soi Honey ..... and it's on the Baht Bus route for going further afield..

Here is a thought for you.

Get onto the Internet and look at Pattaya and decide the are that you think might be best for you. Do a search, be it Google of Agoda and then give us a short list to comment on. On line reviews can be a bit ropy but there is sure to be someone on the forum that has stayed at the places that you have short listed.

Excellent idea..

Funnily enough I checked the Devonshire on Trip Advisor after I posted about it and some entries were quite bizarre in that they were polar opposite from my own experiences there ......So it is a good idea to get BMs own POVs...

All good advice above.

My advice would be to have a Hotel booking site open then also Google street view so you can see if the Hotel is surrounded by Bars cos if it is you wont get much sleep

Sabai Lodge? It's down on Soi 2, so a little out of they way, but that's nothing a baht bus ride won't solve.

It was my Mum's favourite hotel !!

I also have a soft spot for it as it is where I met up with BM Murgatroyd many years ago....

Having said that I agree that it really is out of the way nowadays and my own experience of BR Songteows is that many don't stop as they appear to be touting for tour group private hire...

Also look at the Saibai Inn. I always stayed there and much preferred it to the Saibai. You use the same pool and restaurant but it was very friendly and helpful and all the staff got to know you.

Yea, that's right across the street. As for the baht buses? Some used to come right down Soi 2. I have had the problem of some going down Beach Road not wanting to stop.

And for a first timer? if you havent been in that heat before alongside drinking a lot of beer? buy some rehydration packs from your chemist. Oneof those in the morning works wonders.

Do chemists still sell Resolve? thats what I used to take.

If you want something in the thick of it, but quiet, I would recommend Honey Lodge. Small rooms, but excellent location. Perhaps book it for your first couple of nights to see how you go.

Yes, as you say more often than not there is a baht bus taking a short cut down soi 2 so this is no problem. I did however think that the perfect walks were to Soi 6, Soi 8 and no problem getting to the PBG.

One other thing in favour of Soi 2 is the Big C Centre ( who's new name eludes me) at the top of the soi. Besides all the shops, movies and supermarket, money exchanges there are so many eating options to make you dizzy and at very reasonable prices.

Funnily enough I was on soi honey yesterday and was thinking how easy it is there for somebody on their first trip to get a massage/BJ/shag ....

As for the Big C Marina, I would say doing the walk of death crossing that road on your first day is not to be recommended....

True but he may want to start his holiday in style by going next door to the Sabai soapie!

Hahaha yeh. They can get him all soaped up and slithery then squirt him out the window and across the road...albeit naked...

Japanese tourists sitting in that first noodle shop watching a soapy naked Englishman fly past screaming...

Erm.....Honey Lodge is not in or close to Soi Honey Inn.

Honey Lodge is close to the entrance of Walking Street, but away from the noise.

The blood had rushed from my brain to another part of my body ....sorrry for the mistake...

EDIT = I didn't specifically mention Soi Honey Inn but was generalising the area...again, sorry for being misleading.
