Northwest Cash and Miles deal

Recommended Posts

Northwest dealsThis may be old news to most, but Northwest has their cash and miles special fares going for flights thru mid-October. Got to be a worldperks member with at least 5000 miles to use it.

MM wish I could go then unfortunately I have to wait until Dec. Already bought my ticket on United this year too bad as I have 115,000 northwest miles accumulated that I can't use.

Thats too bad wolfe. With 115,000 miles you can get a free trip in coach and your real close to a free business class R/T. I believe that you can transfer the miles to other airlines as well or were you just saying that the time for using those miles has expired. Too bad either way.

Anybody tried to use FF miles on NWA to get a standard 'free' ticket in December...?

In my experience, GOOD LUCK!! And getting Business Class, without 'rule buster' (240k miles) is VERY difficult--year-round. At least that's been my experience.

An alternative is Malaysian Airlines--You can use NWA miles on their flights.

Northwest Air just pisses me off no end. I recently booked with China Airways for my next trip to LOS. I did this because NWA had jacked up their fares some $400 more than several carriers that service BKK. So, I burned 25,000 freq NWA miles to get me to LAX, then I booked China from LAX -BKK-LAX for $814 including taxes and the other sundry charges carriers have been tacking on as of late. In addition, I began an email correspondence with NWA customer relations to voice my concern that NWA was pricing a lot of us out of continuing to be loyal customers because their fares were significantly higher than NWA competitors.

All I got for my efforts was the bull shit that NWA appreciated my business, but do to market conditions the price is higher, yibida, yibida, yibida.....

Now that I have depleted my mileage and opted for another carrier they come up with a decent miles/cash promotion. Just my luck!

The only reason I stayed with NWA was because it is the ONLY carrier I can take that can get me from my home to BKK and back.

So now I have learned my lesson-FUCK Northwest and now I shall use alternative carriers even if it is an inconvenience.

I guess the upside is that I will not have to look at 200 pound flight attendants serve me disguisting tunafish sandwiches with attitude. Live and learn. James

Attitude @ NWA..? No kidding, I flew them last year and ended up writing many letters about the FA's attitudes. All I got was I'm sorry and 6,500 FF miles...BFD, I can easily find my way to LAX and get on EVA for a very reasonable price.

NWA is total :banghead

Be it Northworst or United, the FA's have attitudes. It's a result of the union and seniority.

Some foriegn airline, I forget which, had an ad campaign where the FA is smiling at a guy and the slogan is something like "we can read your mind" or "we know what you want". Damn right, I want to fuck her brains out!

But even though it's really nice to be served by pretty young things, price and schedule are far more important to me. And if possible I'm trying to fly United and China Air so as to not spread around my FF miles too much.

Now if the FLB hostesses were FA's and lavatory smokes were available, I might be persuaded to fly LOS Air!

I would beg to differ.

I am in LOS right now on a FF ticket from United. THEY WERE GREAT!!!. I tried to book in coach for 60K miles but the days when seats were available was limited. I asked about BIZ class and it was wide open. Every day in July united had biz class seats to LOS available. For the trip over I was to fly UA from sf to LA and then Thai airways from LA to BKK, but I changed my flight the day before I was to leave and united put on thier planes from SFO to BKK. No charge fro the change.

I got to use the red acarpet room in norito on the transfers bewteen palnes. Free booze shpwers internet etc. For my return I will fly Thai for bkk to hong kong the singapore airlines to SFO. My total cost was 90,000 miles to fly a biz class ticket that cost $3500. This is my 3rd time using United miles for a trip in the last year. Every time they have been great. Some of the miles I accumulated were flown on Thia air.

Use my miles for domestic? not a chance.

just booked msp-bkk on nw w/cash & miles, 14-25 OCT.

had to complete travel by 31OCT.

have to fly on mon-thur to be able to get the direct flight from msp to nrt so i'll miss loy kratong.

really don't like NW but it's the only option from msp to get to bkk without adding an additional stop (det,sf,lax) and at least an other 5hrs each way

19/27-18hrs msp-bkk

26/20-16hrs bkk-msp

fuck the FA (exwife works for NW), i've gotten to were i've "enjoyed" the old bitches, reminds me why i'm going to los in the first place!!!

although it is a tedious proccess i have always gotten my award flights once i've reached the required level, 3rd trip free.

3 months but who's counting

LBJ nope nw miles don't expire just that when I can take vacation in December they never have any award seats available. So now I'm buying from Orbitz where I chose the Airline and get points on their credit card towards money off tickets in the future . I benefit 2 ways this year United in December when I bought my tickets was 832 USD. I get frequent flyer milage with United and points with Orbitz towards my next ticket purchase which will probably be with United or Northwest. Unfortunately Pittsburgh were I'm from doesn't have a lot of International carriers heading west most head east to europe. So I don't get a lot of choices unless I fly to another city and usually lose a day in travel.

LBJ, thank you for your post telling us about Northwest's cash and miles special fares. It wasn't "old news" to me. Unfortunately, when I went to NWA's website and entered numerous flight dates in August, nothing was available at the "special fares."

Drat! As much as I dislike flying on NWA, this would have been a good deal.

Yeah, that's the thing about these special deals, it's not always easy to find a flight when you want it since seats are limited and it seems that weekdays are easier to book than weekends.........

Wolfe, if you'd like to transfer any of your miles to another worldperks member, feel free to contact me :beer

Skytrooper, you're most welcome.

Thanks for your concern LBJ but I'll keep them for now who knows maybe someday Northwest will actually honor thier miles . What I just don't understand is why aren't seats awarded on a first come first served basis. Whether it is cash or awards it's a filled seat and a happy customer that will spend more money at NWA . No wonder all the airlines are going broke competion and a piss poor atitude towards the customer . And when you write or call them they say you should plan for seats earlier . Well hell I've been trying since January and have never found seats available for when I want. But I might screw them normally I try searching for Bangkok flights which is usually 4 to 500 USD dollars cheaper than flying to Manila where I plan to spend some time next Dec. So maybe I'll search for flights there and make them dig deeper into thier pockets for next years trip . Also seem to be more available award seats to manila actually found some that almost matched my vacation schedule for this year but would have had to waste 3 days at home.

A few days ago I called United for a free flight in mid August because all their flights were over a grand during that timeframe. I'm retired so I'm very flexible on dates and fly out of Sacramento thru SFO. I first asked for a Monday departure because I've always heard that weekday departures and arrivals were the easiest to obtain. I was told no problem but I would have to fly out of SFO because all the Sacramento to SFO (90 miles) flights were full. She then looked at leaving Sunday and they had openings so I booked. The morning Sacramento to SFO flights were full I believe because many people that work in San Francisco comute to their jobs from the Sacramento area.

Hello Everyone - I just got my e-mail from NWA regarding Cash&Miles. Curently with NWA the going rate from SFO-BKK is $994.50 up $100.00 from a week ago.

I tried going online to get my Cash&Miles online, but it would not accept it with the usual BS that it was not available. I then called their 1-800 number and was able to get my Cash&Miles trip set up along with my seating assignment. Total cost for this trip is 10K miles plus $599.50. If you cash in 20K the price is then $509.50. For me this is the best deal going at this time.

I have had my share of problems with NWA and e-mailed their customer service with the usual "Canned Responses". Until I burn up the rest of my FF miles I will fly NWA.

With all the bad experiences with NWA, I must admit my last trip was better than average. My return trip I had mostly an all asian crew, Japanese and Thai. I ended up scoring a few points for myself with one of the Thai Flight Attendants. She saw my Medic Alert Tag and was asking me about it. She then saw the second Tag behind my Medic Alert with a Picture of my TGF. I told her that she is the reason why I go to Thailand - She smiled and the guy next to me made a comment to which the Flight Attendant laughed.

I guess I must be one of the only guys on this board that has had good experiences with NWA

I always book my trips through Angel Travel http://www.angeltravel.com/

It's owned by a Thai lady who now lives in Chicago. I get my tickets for $760 in the off season and pay $1025 in the peak season.

http://angeltravel.com/Airfare/Northwest%2...Zone_n_Fare.htm

I have booked a flight this Christmas leaving on 12/24 and getting back on 1/9 with airmiles (90K). But the secert was to call and ask when was the first date that I could book which was about 330 days before the return date. I called on that day and they said that they didn't have any economy seats which would have used 60K miles so I went ahead and used the 90K miles to book Business Class.

At the moment I am trying to decide if I'll keep the booking or make a change. I'm going to be in LOS at the end of Nov for a week and then going home for 3 weeks and then back again to Los for 2 weeks over the holidays. The more I think about it the less sence it seems to make. The Christmas/New Years holidays can be a pain in the ass in some ways. I may keep the Nov trip but cancel the one at the end of the year. If I do it then I could go over in Sept, Nov (as planned) and then back again in late Jan or mid Feb.

I don't like the long dry spells between trips and would rather make more (shorter) trips about once every 3 months or so...

Decisions... decisions... decisions

Shilo,

There must be two of us that don't have a problem with Northwest Airline. I have used them at least 12 times for R/T trips to the LOS in the last few years. My flights have been on time and the service has been good. I can only remember one trip where there was a problem with the sound system on the plane. Our row was the only row on the plane that the headsets wouldn't work on the long haul from the states to Toyko. I wrote a letter to Worldperks (miles) and me and my two friends got a $150 cash voucher each to be used on any type ticket. I just used it on Continental Airlines for a upcoming trip to South America.

Up to this year I have had problems finding a flight using miles. I think the airlines suck you in with their miles program to keep you loyal and only use them. I have tried for the last few years to book a flight to Thailand using miles and could never find one. I mean looking at all dates going and coming and no free seats available. This all change a few months ago when searching for a trip this December for me and my friend. After finding seats for a high fare, I checked for a trip using miles, and it pops up for 105,000 miles coach. A little high, but for the Christmas holiday why not. I call my friend to reconfirm his dates, since he will be staying a week longer. I do a search using miles and I also get him a ticket, but at 120,000 miles. After booking both flights I do a check on using miles for flying business class and there are seats available, but for less miles than coach. I gave the Worldperks reservations a call and she tell me that there is only one seat available on the outbound flight and on my return for only 90,000 miles, so I have it changed and they deposit 15,000 miles back into my account. Since there was only one seat my friend will have to stay in coach, so sad, but my miles. I then check on his return flight and there are business seats avaiable, again at using lower miles, so I change his reservation and again they deposit 15,000 miles back into my account.

Since I was on a roll and was at work I double checked the calendar when I could get away for my trip for the end of July. I wanted to make it back to Pattaya to attend Ben's birthday party again. Both the ticket price was high and no trips using miles, so I keep checking one day later at a time, and up comes a R/T for 120,000 miles in coach. I call Worldperks back again and got the same girl, and ask her about any buisness seats available using miles. After checking she finds one seat on a out bound flight from Houston. She said the only problem it is on a non stop from Houston to Toyko, flying first class on a Continental Airline 777, and then business from Toyko to Bangkok. She couldn't find a business seat on the return, but booked it for 105,000 miles. Finely I got to use some of my miles.

When LBJ started this thread two weeks ago, I check on using a 'cash and miles' booking for a October trip, but the special didn't extend that far. Two days ago I got a email from Northwest about using 'cash and miles' for trips to Aisa. I checked it out and the special went thru October, so I did a search this morning and up pop a special for the dates I could travel.

20,000 Miles / $439.00 airfare Cash & Miles. I couldn't find a outbound and return together that I liked so I gave Workperks a call and she picked the outbound flight I wanted and then picked the return flight I liked and booked it. Durning the booking process, she said "you must work for a company that does alot of busniness in Thailand". I just said yes and didn't tell her what kind of business I was doing there.

I have used other airlines, and I can't say the the flight and service was that much different than Northwest. My last trip in April was on EVA, and I will say the only difference were the flight attendents, there were nice to look at. I agree with the others, the Northwest flight attendents are a little over the hill. Norhtwest does make up for it on the Toyko to Bangkok leg of the trip, with both Thai and Japanese flight attendents.

Shilo,

There must be two of us that don't have a problem with Northwest Airline.

The only problem I have with NWA is the 6:00 am departure. If it had the noon departure like EVA it would be perfect as I live in Minneapolis.

Ty_Stick,

I failed to mention the same problem. The only draw back is getting in at 23:45 PM and having to leave at 6:00 AM for the return. It puts a damper on your first night and your last night in the LOS. Like I said, I flew EVA for the first time in April. It was great getting in at 11:45, had the whole afternoon and evening. The EVA flight also left Bangkok at 12:15 PM. You could enjoy your last night and have a relaxing morning before leaving for the airport. On the return home on EVA, it doesn't land in Houton until midnight, then have the 2 hour drive home after getting luggage. I guess you can't have both ways.
