Actually I similarly learned that I was required to do this by a school-marm like immigration lady officer on coming into Thailand many years ago. I felt suitably scolded, informed and never forgot since!

It is on the one sitting on my desk waiting for me to get my ass over to immigration (TM8), and on the half dozen or so stamps in my passport.

Perhaps it isn't specifically designed for those with extensions. Actually it is called a RE-ENTRY Permit.

FBWY... With True service, I know when to press the 1 (or is it 2) to get English, but I frequently have to call 2-3 times to get the procedure correct. I have my service number handy, but once I get through to an English speaking person, they always seem to have it already tied with my phone number. If I get an English recorded message, telling me of service interruptions, I usually take it no further as there is no point. Often these interruptions can be most of the afternoon. That said I haven't had one for a spell and was streaming fine yesterday afternoon. I do like that when I get an English speaking service telephone person, they really do speak English, well. That is refreshing here.They are in Bangkok of course! I used to have TOT ADSL and after their shit, all looks fair with True, although getting an issue sorted over Songkran last year was tough.

Let us say, I was under the impression prior, that a single night away, didn't require a re submittal of a TM30. Also I have had these odd nights in a Bangkok Hotel, and had no consequences, and they were not little places. So living in Pattaya I don't think they aren't being too stringent. It's when they are pressured to send more money to Bangkok they will tighten up. As to the OP, he is using Chiang Rai, I have friends up there who give me positive feedback as to their dealings with immigration.

What 'visa' do you obtain in Thailand, or are you referring to an extension? A guy who makes a living around 'visas' in my area suggests that even if you have been out of the country, go and do your 'previous' 90 day report anyhow. if you are back in Thailand when it is due. They can only send you away or process it, and thus avoid the 'confusion'. Personally I have never had an issue and usually reset the 90 day clock when I land back in Thailand. I don't do the TM30 either as 'haven't been asked'..... living at the same address many years. Such is the confusion and variety around Thailand.

You can find most things in the Pattaya area, for those you can't adapt, do without. Most of the time it is hardware items, or gadgets, where I just can;t be bothered going round the shops to find them, and order on-line.

I have found Thais useless at understanding maps. Fortunately they all seem to know 'TOPS' which isn't there any more!

So long as it isn't Poland or Delhi..... I am still unsure where our passports will be coming from.

Well I guess there is quite a market there for Russians, Chinese, Italians whatever, who struggle with English. I know I would struggle if the forms were in Chinese or only Thai. As it is they are straightforward. Quite a jump in price that, 100 to 500.... we are here to be milked.
