Well that is good news too. It was always a slight let down to see what we got from Doha to Manchester after the 777 service from Bangkok. This time I go from A380 to A330.

Well I recall Winston quite well although was unaware of that particular business venture, I heard of others, an Expat hotel was one. More of a shock to learn I am an old-timer!

I know people have done credit card withdrawals, but I thought it was also possible to use a debit card, with passport. Personally I haven't done it ( I live here and have a local account of course), I just researched this a bit more and it appears to be being 'phased out' in the Thai banks and customers told to go use the ATM. One poster in the link below did say I withdrew cash, over the counter, at a Bangkok Bank branch yesterday 4/3/2015 (shopping center branch) using a UK Visa DEBIT card. I have been withdrawing cash, about once a month, at the same branch for a couple of years, never any problem. Here is a thread on Thai Visa/ I have heard the same claim at the Expats Club a number of times. Although most guys there are senile, including me.

You can also turn 1st left, which will put you onto the tail end of the Hwy 7 motor-way, and take a right onto North-bound Sukhumvit at the lights, and onto North Rd. Unfortunately for me this is too far North for the New Home-Pro which is where I wanted to get to! :

Yes, I believe it is 153 baht per traveller's cheque now, similar to what you pay on the Thai end for an ATM withdrawal (mostly 180 baht). Apparently the 'cheapest' way is to take the card into the bank and make a withdrawal as a debit card.

Things are just inconvenient to carry around these days. You could always try the manufacturer's service centre. Samsung and LG are both on Sukhumvit. As MM says, new ones are pretty cheap these days 10-20,000 unless you want the latest, greatest, biggest and curved.

How much land? Is there a pool? Type of ownership, company or Thai owned?

I know where you mean, or should I say I think I do. There is a pier there where tables are set up and seafood is cooked at the stalls and you can bring it to the tables... if you can get one. Very popular with Thai people. Just a slightly frustrating drive back out.

If you would care to read my posts, you may notice I did not book in economy. But I appreciate the feedback, that the hop from Doha to Bali in economy isn't fun. I haven't flown on a Dreamliner yet, just the novelty factor attracts me.

In Pattaya, there is a good chance of getting water thrown at you in and around bar areas for that whole week. Remember Pattaya has a 'late' official songkran.

I had reason to be on Soi Siam CC yesterday. Many likely know this already but the concrete barriers on Soi Siam CC have been removed. I guess the planners had a moment of clarity and figured that during a time when they need to close junctions and roads, to enable construction, traffic problems are NOT alleviated by closing other roads and junctions too. So one can now turn off and onto Soi Siam CC if heading Southwards. Northwards is still blocked. To get into Pattaya later I drove north back down the Railway line bypass, took the 3rd left and got back onto Sukhumvit Southbound and then onto Pattaya Nua. Busy in town yesterday, lots of kids around too....music festival this coming weekend, beware of traffic. Pictures...not much happening, things do not look bad. I still cannot see any digging down although that may be happening further South. It is claimed the tunnel will not flood as the entrance roads will be raised slightly above Sukhumvit level. Well to get into a tunnel the approach roads must go down and a 1 in 10 ramp will mean 200m of entrance/exit roads to collect rain. Potentially 4x or greater water can head into the tunnel (20 cm of rain produce 80cm depth down there)...it needs to drain fast or be pumped out somewhere. I saw underpasses in Kuwait flood deep enough to float Chevys during a heavy rainstorm...... and hitting that water at speed is a shock!

It is a crappy A330 -300 or 200. A ride on the 787 would have been very attractive.

Getting drenched can happen any-time for the whole week prior to the last mad day. (18th), and Songkran officially starts about a week prior to that last mad Pattaya day (the holiday and madness likely starts on the 11th, the weekend prior). Even a few days before that people will be looking over their shoulders wary of the first drunk with a water supply. Define tolerable....... if you came out of your front door dressed for work and someone threw a bucket of iced water over you, would that be?
